SmartChoice Online Homework (10%) Minimum 4 of 6 units must be completed
Teacher’s Discretion (10%) – Quizzes, Student Presentations, Writing Assignments, etc.
Attendance (10%) Midterm (20%) • all four skills Final (20%) • all four skills Participation (15%)
Natural Curve
In your classes, you will usually have a natural curve in your students (even though we do not have a mandatory curve)
Your grading needs to reflect this Grading Audit
 Should see a natural distribution
Grading Policy
Midterm/Final • Scoring below 50% on either of these tests requires a failing of the class
There can be exceptions if a student is on the bubble, but it must be completed through supplementary work Tutoring Sessions Additional Speaking Testing Assigned Writing If you have someone on the bubble, then talk
with me and we can come up with a solution to satisfy Academic Affairs
Grading Policy
What was discovered in JWU’s audit was inflated grading (what Ministry would ?)
Example(s) – Entire classes of students being given 15% in participation and higher than average assignment grades (25%-30% for every student)
Coupled with this were students who had failed their midterm or final (with scores as low as 5% of the metric) and still were passed
This passes students who should have repeated the level
