opinion on various topics, such as this one that gathers us in the II International
Exhibition of Graphic Humor Lima 2009: Protect our natural forests. Peru has 66
million hectares of Amazonian forests of incalculable wealth, which is the source
of our native biodiversity, mitigates the effects of climate change by capturing
carbon and is home to more than 40 Amazonian indigenous villages, which in turn,
enriches our daily life with their ancestral knowledge that we must protect for
future generations.
However, despite its enormous value to national development and quality of life
of Peruvians, of those 66 million hectares of Amazonian forests, 10 million are lost
by indifference to the care of the environment, with actions such as illegal tree
felling and burning forests. The great task is to change the way of seeing the
forest.
Undoubtedly, initiatives such as the II International Exhibition of Graphic Humor,
which has brought talented humorists, illustrators and cartoonists of the world,
provide in this book the necessary analysis and reflections on the current status of
tropical forests and the roads we can follow to take one of the two diametrically
opposite ways: to destroy or preserve them.
In the Ministry of Environment we chose the second option: to conserve the
Amazonian forests, because having them already in place is beneficial to the
Peruvians and people around the world, as they are able to generate wealth on a
sustained basis. And this is precisely the challenge of this publication to which we
adhere firmly: make the reader understand, through art, the real importance of
forests for mankind.
Adopting a sustainable model of Amazonian development means reverse the
current model of intervention in the high forests to a low-intervention and gradual
recovery of degraded areas, without affecting the economy and integrating
environmental and social aspects.
To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Environment is implementing an innovative
system of compensation for environmental services provided by forests, which
would remain at least 80% coverage of forest in the country.
I congratulate the organizers of the II International Exhibition of Graphic Humor in
Lima and all the talented participants, who through their drawings have managed
to wake us. It is now clear that united, the serious and comedians, we can protect
the world's tropical forests.

través del humor se puede llamar la atención, crear conciencia y despertar a la
opinión pública sobre diferentes temas, como el que nos reúne en el II Salón
Internacional del Humor Gráfico Lima 2009: Protejamos nuestros bosques
naturales. Y es que el Perú cuenta con 66 millones de hectáreas de bosques
amazónicos de una riqueza incalculable, que es fuente de nuestra biodiversidad
nativa, mitiga los efectos del cambio climático al capturar carbono y es el hábitat
de más de 40 pueblos indígenas amazónicos que, a su vez, enriquecen nuestra
vida diaria con sus conocimientos ancestrales que debemos proteger para las
futuras generaciones.
Sin embargo, a pesar de su enorme valor para el desarrollo nacional y la calidad de
vida de los peruanos, de esos 66 millones de hectáreas de bosques amazónicos,
10 millones se han perdido por la indiferencia hacia el cuidado del ambiente, con
acciones como la tala ilegal y la quema de bosques. La gran tarea es cambiar la
forma de ver los bosques.
Indiscutiblemente, iniciativas como el II Salón Internacional del Humor Gráfico,
que ha congregado a talentosos humoristas, dibujantes, ilustradores y
caricaturistas del mundo entero, propician en este libro necesarios análisis e
impostergables reflexiones en torno a la situación actual de los bosques tropicales
y los caminos que podemos seguir para tomar los dos caminos diametralmente
opuestos: destruirlos o conservarlos.
En el Ministerio del Ambiente apostamos por la segunda opción: conservar los
bosques primarios amazónicos, ya que tenerlos en pie es beneficioso para los
peruanos y los habitantes de todo el mundo al ser capaces de generar riqueza de
manera sostenida. Y en esto consiste precisamente el reto de esta creativa
publicación, al que nos adherimos con firmeza: lograr que el lector entienda, a
través del arte, la real importancia de los bosques para la humanidad.
Y es que adoptar un modelo sostenible de desarrollo amazónico significa revertir
el modelo actual de alta intervención en los bosques por un modelo de baja
intervención y de progresiva recuperación de áreas degradadas, sin afectar la
economía e integrando los aspectos ambientales y sociales.
Para el logro de este objetivo, como Ministerio del Ambiente estamos
implementando un innovador sistema de compensación por los servicios
ambientales que brindan los bosques, con los cuales se mantendría al menos el
80% de cobertura de bosques en el país.
Felicito a los organizadores del II Salón Internacional del Humor Gráfico de Lima y a
todos sus talentosos participantes, quienes con sus dibujos han logrado
despertarnos. Ahora es claro que unidos, los serios y los humoristas, podremos
proteger los bosques tropicales del mundo.

wanted to do this year to continue the tradition and build the International
Exhibition of Graphic Humor as one of the largest in Latin America.
Last year's experience left us important lessons and big dreams, especially after
long hours of conversations shared with our guests of honor, the recognized
graphic humorists Angel Boligán and Crist, who gave us the impetus to continue
on this difficult path of graphic art.
This II Exhibition has collected more than 700 works of artists from around the
globe that trust once more their works to be displayed and spread in our country,
with a clear and direct message on natural forests and the danger to which they
are subjected, by a lack of awareness on this sensitive issue, and it is through
humor that we try to wake and reflect on the seriousness of the deforestation and
destruction of our natural reserves.
Also, we had the opportunity to share moments with Master Joaquin Lavado
"Quino", who was visiting Lima and congratulated us for the effort in organizing
such international events that drive the development of graphic humor.
This new edition came with a novelty, the establishment of the Prize "Huaman
Poma," the highest distinction that we want to give to an artist as a way to
recognize his career in the field of humor, caricature, illustration and graphic arts
in general. We have formed an Advisory Committee of artists and personalities
who were responsible for designating the winner, and that from this year will be
done through an application at the continental level.
The II International Exhibition of Graphic Humor has been an enjoyable and
rewarding experience that encourages us to continue every year. Thanks again to
the institutions and companies who supported us in this complicated task, and the
general public who visited the show in different venues.

IEn Perú decimos que “no hay primera sin segunda” y eso es lo que hemos querido
hacer este año para continuar con la tradición y cimentar el Salón Internacional de
Humor Gráfico, como uno de los más importantes de América Latina.
La experiencia del año pasado nos dejó importantes enseñanzas y grandes
sueños, sobre todo, luego de compartir largas horas de conversaciones con
nuestros invitados de honor, los reconocidos humoristas gráficos Angel Boligán y
Crist, quienes nos dieron el impulso para seguir en este difícil camino del arte
gráfico.
Este II Salón ha reunido más de 700 trabajos de artistas de todo el planeta que
confiaron una vez más, sus obras para ser expuestas y difundidas en nuestro país,
con un mensaje claro y directo sobre los bosques naturales y el peligro al que están
sometidos, por la falta de una conciencia clara sobre este delicado problema; y es a
través del humor que tratamos de despertarla y a reflexionar sobre la gravedad de
la tala indiscriminada y la destrucción de nuestras reservas naturales.
Igualmente, tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir unos momentos con el maestro
Joaquín Lavado “QUINO”, quien estuvo de visita en Lima, y nos felicitó por el
esfuerzo desplegado en la organización de este tipo de eventos internacionales
que impulsan el desarrollo del humor gráfico.
Esta nueva edición llegó con una novedad, la instauración del Premio “Huamán
Poma”, la más alta distinción que queremos entregar a un artista como una forma
de reconocer su trayectoria en el campo del humor, la caricatura, la ilustración y las
artes gráficas en general. Para ello hemos conformado un Comité Consultivo de
notables artistas y personalidades quienes se encargaron de designar al
galardonado; y que a partir de este año se hará a través de una postulación a nivel
continental.
El II Salón Internacional de Humor Gráfico, ha sido una grata y enriquecedora
experiencia que nos anima a continuar cada año. Gracias nuevamente a las

The natural wealth of the planet is our most precious
asset and creating awareness about the need to
preserve it is a challenge and a commitment that the
Amazonian countries assumed in 1978, when they
signed the Amazon Cooperation Treaty. In this
regard, we receive with enthusiasm, as part of the 30
years covered by the TCA, the news of the realization
of II International Exhibition of Graphic Humor in Lima, whose
theme this year 2009 is "Protect our forests."
For Peru and for the other seven countries that came to share
the fate of the sovereignty of the Amazon - Bolivia, Brazil,
Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela - this issue
comes at a very opportune time. More than ever it becomes
necessary to draw attention to the importance of maintaining
this fragile and important ecosystem of undisputed natural,
cultural and economic potential.
Under this purpose, the II International Exhibition of Graphic
Humor in Lima is performed by joining the work of the eight
Amazonian countries, which through the Permanent Secretariat
of the Organization of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (PS /
ACTO), displayed numerous efforts to conserve and sustainably
develop the region, whose richness and diversity is expressed as
impressive data.
We must be clear that the Amazon Basin provides approximately
between 16 and 20% of the fresh water of the planet and hosts
the largest, deepest and longest river in the world, with nearly
7,100 miles km and more than two million years old. Its
ecosystem has the greatest biodiversity of all ecosystems, with a
60,000 species of plants, 1,800 species of birds, 400 mammals
and 3,000 fish species, greater than the amount which has the
Atlantic Ocean. Peru, for example, has the world record for the
greatest number of butterfly species on the planet, with 4,200,
and 20% of bird species in the world, according to the
Information System of Environmental and Biological Diversity in
the Peruvian Amazon (Siamazonía).
As for cultural diversity, Amazon is known for being home to 420
indigenous communities, with more than 650 dialects. At
present, 38 million people live in the region, between indigenous
and non indigenous.
Also considers that the Amazon people use approximately 1,600
species of medicinal plants to cure diseases.
Considering that the Amazon region is essential for maintaining
global climate balance and health of the planet and its
inhabitants, the Permanent Secretariat of the OTCA received
from the governments of the Member States a clear support to
enter a phase of revival to take more leadership and broad
priorities for the protection and preservation of our natural
forests.
It is with this enthusiasm that I congratulate the organizers and
participants of the II International Exhibition of Graphic Humor in
Lima, who with a common goal, play a brilliant role that
contributes to awaken feelings of responsibility for preserving
our forests.

La riqueza natural del planeta es nuestro bien más precioso y
crear la conciencia acerca de la necesidad de preservarlo es un
desafío y un compromiso que los países amazónicos asumieron
en 1978, cuando firmaran el Tratado de Cooperación Amazónica.
En este sentido, recibimos con entusiasmo, en el marco de los 30
años de vigencia del TCA, la noticia de la realización del II Salón
Internacional del Humor Gráfico de Lima, cuyo tema este año de
2009 es "Protejamos nuestros bosques naturales".
Al Perú y a los demás siete países que acompañan el destino de
compartir la soberanía de la cuenca amazónica – Bolivia, Brasil,
Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Surinam y Venezuela -, este tema
llega en un momento muy oportuno. Más que nunca se hace
necesario llamar la atención sobre la importancia de mantener
este frágil e importante ecosistema, de indiscutible riqueza
natural, cultural y de enorme potencial económico.
Bajo este propósito, el II Salón Internacional del Humor Gráfico
de Lima se realiza, uniéndose a la labor de los ocho países
amazónicos que, a través de la Secretaría Permanente de la
Organización el Tratado de Cooperación Amazónica (SP/OTCA),
despliegan innumerables esfuerzos para conservar y desarrollar
de manera sostenible la región, cuya riqueza y diversidad se
expresa en datos impresionantes.
Debemos tener claro que la cuenca amazónica aporta
aproximadamente entre el 16 y 20% del agua dulce superficial del
mundo y alberga el río más grande, profundo y extenso del
planeta, con cerca de 7.100 km que cuenta con más de dos
millones de anos de antigüedad, tal cual es ahora. Su ecosistema
tiene la más grande biodiversidad entre todos los ecosistemas
existentes, con 60 mil especies de plantas, 1.800 especies de
pájaros, 400 de mamíferos y 3 mil especies de peces, cantidad
superior a la que registra el océano atlántico. El Perú, por
ejemplo, tiene la marca mundial del mayor número de especies
de mariposas del planeta, con 4.200, y 20% de las especies de aves
del mundo, según datos del Sistema de Información de la
Diversidad Biológica y Ambiental de la Amazonía Peruana
(Siamazonía).
En cuanto a la diversidad cultural, la Amazonía se destaca por ser
el hogar de 420 comunidades indígenas, con más de 650
dialectos. En la actualidad, 38 millones de personas viven en la
región, entre indígenas y no indígenas.
Estímase, además, que los pueblos amazónicos utilizan
aproximadamente 1.600 especies de plantas medicinales para
curar enfermedades.
Considerando que la región amazónica es fundamental para el
mantenimiento del equilibrio climático global y para la salud del
planeta y de sus habitantes, la Secretaría Permanente de la OTCA

The natural wealth of the planet is our most precious
asset and creating awareness about the need to
preserve it is a challenge and a commitment that the
Amazonian countries assumed in 1978, when they
signed the Amazon Cooperation Treaty. In this
regard, we receive with enthusiasm, as part of the 30
years covered by the TCA, the news of the realization
of II International Exhibition of Graphic Humor in Lima, whose
theme this year 2009 is "Protect our forests."
For Peru and for the other seven countries that came to share
the fate of the sovereignty of the Amazon - Bolivia, Brazil,
Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela - this issue
comes at a very opportune time. More than ever it becomes
necessary to draw attention to the importance of maintaining
this fragile and important ecosystem of undisputed natural,
cultural and economic potential.
Under this purpose, the II International Exhibition of Graphic
Humor in Lima is performed by joining the work of the eight
Amazonian countries, which through the Permanent Secretariat
of the Organization of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (PS /
ACTO), displayed numerous efforts to conserve and sustainably
develop the region, whose richness and diversity is expressed as
impressive data.
We must be clear that the Amazon Basin provides approximately
between 16 and 20% of the fresh water of the planet and hosts
the largest, deepest and longest river in the world, with nearly
7,100 miles km and more than two million years old. Its
ecosystem has the greatest biodiversity of all ecosystems, with a
60,000 species of plants, 1,800 species of birds, 400 mammals
and 3,000 fish species, greater than the amount which has the
Atlantic Ocean. Peru, for example, has the world record for the
greatest number of butterfly species on the planet, with 4,200,
and 20% of bird species in the world, according to the
Information System of Environmental and Biological Diversity in
the Peruvian Amazon (Siamazonía).
As for cultural diversity, Amazon is known for being home to 420
indigenous communities, with more than 650 dialects. At
present, 38 million people live in the region, between indigenous
and non indigenous.
Also considers that the Amazon people use approximately 1,600
species of medicinal plants to cure diseases.
Considering that the Amazon region is essential for maintaining
global climate balance and health of the planet and its
inhabitants, the Permanent Secretariat of the OTCA received
from the governments of the Member States a clear support to
enter a phase of revival to take more leadership and broad
priorities for the protection and preservation of our natural
forests.
It is with this enthusiasm that I congratulate the organizers and
participants of the II International Exhibition of Graphic Humor in
Lima, who with a common goal, play a brilliant role that
contributes to awaken feelings of responsibility for preserving
our forests.

La riqueza natural del planeta es nuestro bien más precioso y
crear la conciencia acerca de la necesidad de preservarlo es un
desafío y un compromiso que los países amazónicos asumieron
en 1978, cuando firmaran el Tratado de Cooperación Amazónica.
En este sentido, recibimos con entusiasmo, en el marco de los 30
años de vigencia del TCA, la noticia de la realización del II Salón
Internacional del Humor Gráfico de Lima, cuyo tema este año de
2009 es "Protejamos nuestros bosques naturales".
Al Perú y a los demás siete países que acompañan el destino de
compartir la soberanía de la cuenca amazónica – Bolivia, Brasil,
Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Surinam y Venezuela -, este tema
llega en un momento muy oportuno. Más que nunca se hace
necesario llamar la atención sobre la importancia de mantener
este frágil e importante ecosistema, de indiscutible riqueza
natural, cultural y de enorme potencial económico.
Bajo este propósito, el II Salón Internacional del Humor Gráfico
de Lima se realiza, uniéndose a la labor de los ocho países
amazónicos que, a través de la Secretaría Permanente de la
Organización el Tratado de Cooperación Amazónica (SP/OTCA),
despliegan innumerables esfuerzos para conservar y desarrollar
de manera sostenible la región, cuya riqueza y diversidad se
expresa en datos impresionantes.
Debemos tener claro que la cuenca amazónica aporta
aproximadamente entre el 16 y 20% del agua dulce superficial del
mundo y alberga el río más grande, profundo y extenso del
planeta, con cerca de 7.100 km que cuenta con más de dos
millones de anos de antigüedad, tal cual es ahora. Su ecosistema
tiene la más grande biodiversidad entre todos los ecosistemas
existentes, con 60 mil especies de plantas, 1.800 especies de
pájaros, 400 de mamíferos y 3 mil especies de peces, cantidad
superior a la que registra el océano atlántico. El Perú, por
ejemplo, tiene la marca mundial del mayor número de especies
de mariposas del planeta, con 4.200, y 20% de las especies de aves
del mundo, según datos del Sistema de Información de la
Diversidad Biológica y Ambiental de la Amazonía Peruana
(Siamazonía).
En cuanto a la diversidad cultural, la Amazonía se destaca por ser
el hogar de 420 comunidades indígenas, con más de 650
dialectos. En la actualidad, 38 millones de personas viven en la
región, entre indígenas y no indígenas.
Estímase, además, que los pueblos amazónicos utilizan
aproximadamente 1.600 especies de plantas medicinales para
curar enfermedades.
Considerando que la región amazónica es fundamental para el
mantenimiento del equilibrio climático global y para la salud del
planeta y de sus habitantes, la Secretaría Permanente de la OTCA
recibió de los Gobiernos de los Países Miembros un claro apoyo
para entrar en una fase de relanzamiento, para actuar con mayor
liderazgo y amplitud en los ejes prioritarios para la protección y
preservación de nuestros bosques naturales.
Es con este entusiasmo que felicito a todos los organizadores y
participantes del II Salón Internacional del Humor Gráfico de

publicación de sus primeros monos en la revista Ja-Ja. Previamente a ese
mal paso, Rius fue seminarista, burócrata, embotellador, vendedor de
jabón, office-boy, encuadernador, cajista, profesor sin título y enterrador
en Gayosso.
Sis monos han aparecido en casi todas las revistas y periódicos de México,
de donde invariablemente lo han corrido por sus ideas políticas, con
excepción de las revistas Proceso, Siempre!, Sucesos, Política y otras
igualmente desacreditadas.
Ha dirigido cuatro revistas humorísticas: La Gallina, Marca diablo, El Mitote
ilustrado y La Garrapata. Asimismo, realizó la historieta Los agachados
(llamada anteriormente Los Supermachos) y ha obtenido premios
internacionales y nacionales como caricaturista y cartelista. Autor de los
libros Cuba para principiantes (traducido ya a doce idiomas), La joven
Alemania, Marx para principiantes, Cristo de Carne y hueso, Lenin para
principiantes, La panza es primero, No consulte a su médico, El yerberito
ilustrado, la revolución mexicana, ABCH y muchos más.

TUTE
Su nombre es Juan Matías Loiseau. Nació el 21 de mayo de 1974 en Buenos
Aires, Argentina. Pasó su infancia en la zona sur del Gran Buenos Aires, en el
barrio José Mármol. Estudió un poco de diseño gráfico, un poco de
humorismo y un poco de cine.
Desde 1999 y hasta 2007 publicó un cuadro diario de humor en La Nación.
Desde 2008 realiza la tira diaria Batu en el mismo matutino y continúa con
su página en la revista dominical LNR.
Sus dibujos también se publican en diarios de México, Colombia,
Nicaragua, Ecuador, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Panamá, Estados Unidos y
Francia.
Publicó los libros de humor Tute (Ed. Sudamericana, 2007), Tute de bolsillo
(Ed. Sudamericana, 2007), Araca, corazón! (Ed. Sudamericana, 2008) y
Batu 1 (Ed. Sudamericana, 2009) primer tomo recopilatorio de su tira diaria.
En poesía publicó: El destino, esa sombra (Ed. Nuevohacer, 1999) y El libro
de la noche (Ed. Nuevohacer, 2000). Y en el terreno del cine realizó dos
cortometrajes: El Ángel de Dorotea (18 min., 2005), premiado en festivales
de Argentina y España. Y Abismos (25 min., 2006) premiada en Argentina y
Chile. Su primer largometraje (Cenizas) se encuentra en la etapa de
preproducción.
Escribe letras de tangos y prepara su primer CD de tangos, con muchos
intérpretes invitados y una breve comedia musical.
