In

*MIV/VIGS, malaria and ander siektes te bestry

– Uitheemse plantegroei(brandgevaar)

– Geweld teen kinders

– Mishandelde en verwaarloosdediere

Housing beneficiaries fear for their lives as their newly- built low-cost houses are crumbling. Occupants

say that in less than a year the houses show structural defects, with cracks and flood in when it rains.

About a thousand houses have been built since 2012.

A fifty year –old homeowner says her family move into her low – cost house last year and three months

later a wall collapsed.

The community says local authorities have not attended to their complaints. We raised our concerns with

the executive manager but he never showed any concern, says a community leader. The MEC for human

settlement in the province said they had not received any complains from the community.

The project was approved at a total cost of R56,2 million and the tender was awarded to a local

businessman

Impact of Vision on actions and behavior: A woman with a vision

CASE STUDY

Gugu Mofokeng is a young woman who works for Whiz kids, a community organisation that looks after young people, mostly orphaned by HIV/ AIDS.

Gugu has a Marketing Management Diploma from Durban University of Technology. I have always had a passion for doing community work, especially when it involves children.

I took every opportunity to volunteer in community organisations. ‘If I had pursued a career in marketing I would probably be richer now but I would not have had joy I have’.

Gugu dreams of running her own organisation in five years. She says empowering her community on health issues makes her feel rich. My mother is very happy about the person I have become. When I go to work every morning, I can’t wait to see the smiles of appreciation from the kids I work with.’
