Prerequisites: ECON 20A, Econ 20B and Math 2A (see the university website for further

details.)

Course Objectives: Econ 100A is the first in the three-sequence on intermediate economic

theory. In this course you will learn about three main microeconomics topics at the intermediate

level: consumer theory, producer theory and market structures (perfect competition andmonopoly). You’ll be provided with detailed microeconomic models using graphs and

mathematical tools such as equations, calculus etc. and several examples of application of the

theory to the real world.

Course Grade Criteria: The final grade is based on Section Attendance (5%), Assignments

(15%), Midterm (35%), and Final (45%).

Scale: A+ : 96% ; A : 93% ; A- : 90% ; B+ : 87% ; B : 83% ; B- : 80% ; C+ : 77% ; C : 73% ; C-

: 70% ; D+ : 67% ; D : 63% ; D- : 60% ; F : Below 60%

o  HW Assignments: HWs will be assigned for each chapter/topic on MyEconLab(registration instructions given at the end) and the lowest score will be dropped . You are

required to submit the HW online by due date and time.

o  Lecture Notes: Be sure to attend all the classes and take down the notes. The class noteswill not be made available online.

o  Discussion Sections (start from week 2): Discussion sections are mandatory and youcan miss (only) one section for full credit on section attendanceo  Exams: There are two exams for this course: midterm and non-cumulative final. The

exams will be based mostly (and not only) on lectures and assignments. There will be nomakeup exams. In case you are unable to take a scheduled exam due to some documentedsickness/emergency, you should contact me or the TA so that an alternative

arrangement/option can be considered.

o  Class Conduct: Do not engage in photography, video recording, conversations with yourfriends, conversations on phone etc. in class. Keep your cell phones switched off or onsilent mode during the class.

To register for Econ 100A, F14:

1. Go to pearsonmylabandmastering.com.

2. Under Register, click Student.

3. Enter your instructor’s course ID: aggarwal85895, and click Continue.

4. Sign in with an existing Pearson account or create an account:· If you have used a Pearson website (for example, MyITLab, Mastering, MyMathLab, or

MyPsychLab), enter your Pearson username and password. Click Sign in.· If you do not have a Pearson account, click Create. Write down your new Pearsonusername and password to help you remember them.

5. Select an option to access your instructor’s online course:

· Use the access code that came with your textbook or that you purchased separatelyfrom the bookstore.· Buy access using a credit card or PayPal.· If available, get 14 days of temporary access. (Look for a link near the bottom of thepage.)

6. Click Go To Your Course on the Confirmation page. Under MyLab & Mastering NewDesign on the left, click Econ 100A, F14 to start your work.
