The CC2431 is a true System-On-Chip (SOC) for wireless sensor networking ZigBee®/IEEE 802.15.4 solutions. The chip includes a location detection hardware module that can be used in so-called blind nodes (i.e. nodes with unknown location) to receive signals from nodes with known location’s. Based on this the location engine calculates an estimate of a blind node’s position. The CC2431 enables ZigBee® nodes to be built with very low total bill-of-material costs. The CC2431 combines the excellent performance of the leading CC2420 RF transceiver with an industry-standard enhanced 8051 MCU, 128 KB flash memory, 8 KB RAM and many other powerful features. Combined with the industry leading ZigBee® protocol stack (Z-Stack™) from Texas Instruments, the CC2431 provides the market’s most competitive ZigBee® solution. The CC2431 is highly suited for systems where ultra low power consumption is required. This is achieved by various operating modes. The CC2431DK Development Kit includes a sample application for location calculation and demonstration.

Evaluate the SmartRF®04 products. Apply power to the boards and the plug and play kit can be used for range testing.

User SmartRF® Studio to perform RF measurements. The radio can be easily configured to measure sensitivity, output power, and other RF parameters.

Prototype development. The CC2431DK includes a USB interface that can be used as emulator interface for the CC2430/CC2431. All I/O ports are available on pin connectors on the edge of the board to allow easy access for external applications.

The CC2431DK is supported by the IAR EW8051 C-compiler, which is used with the MAC and application examples. The C-SPY debugger is used as emulator interface. Both the C-compiler and the C-SPY debugger are included in the development kit as 30-days evaluation licenses. By registrering the compiler with IAR, a 30-day extension of the license will be given.
