Why  I  Came  to  Paraguay  (InspiraBon)  

•  Toby  Shapshak  (Ushahidi)  –  InnovaBon  in  Africa  – Can’t  solve  a  problem  from  5000  miles  away  

•  Paul  Rusesabagina  (Hotel  Rwanda)  – Called  on  students  to  be  ciBzens  of  the  world  

•  Is  there  more  to  UX  than  Yo  or  Flappy  Bird  – There  has  to  be  more  to  it  than  entertainment  – How  is  accessibility  different  outside  of  the  US

Why  I  Came  to  Paraguay  (PracBcal)    

•  Working  Environment  – Working  as  a  UX  person  in  an  atypical  environment  

– NGO  – Working  in  a  non-­‐tech  heavy  environment  

•  Trial  by  Fire  – Won’t  develop  skills  unless  forced  – How  do  I  handle  a  wide  range  of  projects

Website  Report  Outline  •  SEO  

–  Caught  that  it  hadn’t  been  submiaed  to  Google  –  RecommendaBon  of  plugins  to  improve  SEO  

•  Security  –  Everyone’s  using  the  same  password    

•  Content  –  Content  isn’t  scannable  –  Readers  aren’t  paBent  

•  NavigaBon  –  NavigaBon  based  on  structure  of  company  not  based  on  what  client  is  

looking  for  –  Reorganize  navigaBon  

•  Form  to  double  check  on  content  and  website  when  it  is  revised  or  added  to.

Learning  Process  

•  Lots  of  starts  and  stops  – App  – Website  

•  Say  yes  to  everything  and  figure  it  out  later  – Building  the  app  vs  building  the  prototype  – Survey  online

What  I  learned  •  Be  comfortable  being  uncomfortable  •  Juggling  mulBple  projects  •  Time  management  (sBll  need  to  work  on  this)  •  Business  plans  •  Microfinance  •  FighBng  Poverty  •  Measuring  Poverty  •  A  liale  informaBon  is  a  dangerous  thing  •  What  skills  I  need  to  further  develop  •  My  co-­‐workers  at  FP  are  the  best!
