Wendy’s Journal
Fall has arrived with a chill in the air. The leaves are turning red and orange. Yesterday was a
cloudy day but it didn’t rain. I brought my family and homestay students to the harbour. We drove for half
an hour and ate fish and chips outside quickly since it was getting cold. Wow! It was such an incredibly
beautiful autumn day.
We took some pictures while we were on the pier before we walked back to Marine Drive to have
some gelato. It was quite expensive but since it was going to be our last cold treat for the year, I decided to
pay for everyone.

Peter’s Journal
The Chinese New Year Parade, celebrating the year of the rooster, trotted through our city’s
Chinatown on Sunday, with thousands lining the streets to watch the colourful celebration of the Lunar
New Year.
Lining Pender Street for blocks, parade-goers marvelled at the floats in the parade and the
marching bands from all over Metro Vancouver. It was also a chance for people to see the area in a
different light. “Gosh! This is going to be a good year,” said Peter Chan happily, “I hope we will prosper
this year.”

Parts of Speech Poem
Here’s a fun way of remembering the parts of speech. Rap it, sing it, commit to memory and you’ll find grammar a little bit less scary.
The Parts of Speech Poem
Every name is called a noun,
like school and student, street and town.
In place of noun, the pronoun stands,
when she and he would raise their hands.
The adjective describes a thing,
As wishful thought or lonesome king.
A verb means action, something done;
to speak and listen, to walk or run.
How things are done the adverbs tell,
perhaps quickly, slowly, badly, well.
The prepositions betray relations,
Are they on the street or at the station?
Conjunctions join in countless ways,
sentences, words, or clause and phrase.
Last, the interjection gives quite a bark
because it ends with an exclamation mark!
