The American Society of Transportation and Logistics is a nonprofit professional association for transportation logistics professionals. AST&L began the Certified in Transportation and Logistics Certification Program in 1948, and it is known as the premier credential in the transportation/logistics industry. Who is qualified to receive CTL Certification? To qualify an individual must have earned an undergraduate degree or at least three years of professional experience. The certification is granted to individuals who successfully complete six exam modules. The CTL can also be obtained through the CTL Approved Academic Waiver Program. This is the best option for qualified students graduating this spring and summer. What is the waiver program? As determined by the AST&L Board of Examiners, the coursework in an Approved CTL Academic Program parallels the content and assessment in the CTL program, meeting the requirement for the CTL Professional Certification. How do I qualify for the Approved Academic Program for the CTL Certification? Any senior who by August 2015 has completed or is graduating from one of the institutions the listed here in a transportation, logistics, or supply chain related major, are eligible to apply. Is there a cost to apply? Yes. Within six months of graduation, students are required to join AST&L ($0) online (includes reciprocal membership to APICS) and pay application fee of $250. After 6 months the fee is $365. Is it worth it? Yes. The cost for CTL certification without the waiver is $1200- $6,000 for a self-study, cohort, or online program. Studies show a professional credential increases job opportunities and salaries by 18%. Membership in AST&L and APICS provides a global network of over 45,000 industry professionals. When should I apply? After midterms, before the end of the semester when you are certain you will pass all of your classes. Application at www.astl.org, use your AST&L member ID number when applying. What proof of graduation does AST&L require? A copy of your unofficial transcript, or pre-approval from the university program director or a letter from a facility member.
