A chapter of the book 'Dionyzos' by the D utch writer Loui s Couperus, it i s my favourite part and I couldn't find any Enlish translation of his book thus I took the trouble to translate and oranize it! Louis Couperus is a superb writer who can mould the stiff Dutch lanuae into fluent poetic lines and uses words and create new ones as only true poets can! " #h $inyas why as somber as the sky of the mornin itself, frowns your forehead, beneath the flash of your helmet and your black plume, which is wavin dark% &hy thou come to me with heavily armed military , or is it ust to raise me in triumph, on your leamin shields, and chane your lances into (hyrsi% &ilt thou, that I command my fauns to stack rapes on your steely shields as on platters wide) wilt thou lift up your helmets and drink from them stunned of my new oy) wilt thou, that with a sinle hint with my Aave*flow er baton a miracle vine will shoot out from the splittin earth, between both our powers, and I show you, that I am the most powerful% +ut, suspicious, and frownin the brows, beneath the flash of his helmet and swayin of the black plume, $inyas did not answer, the ruler of #rchomenos, the divine Dionysus) and his archers fired the arrows at the dancin satyrs and struck them, until the howlin of fierce oat les rose up lamentin of pain, and their blood flowed toether with the blood of rapes! ury took possession of Dionysus! -e threw himself out of his chariot, he swun on Ampelos' shoulder, and, suddenly unreconizable, he was dreadful! (hose followin, all stared at him! -is soft smilin, beautiful lads*face, had turned into a pale, traic, tiht cruelly mask*rin, his brass blonde locks were s.uirmin up, e.ual to $edusa's serpents, shudderin around his head! -is violet eyes, hard as steel, stared to $inyas, and his otherwise always smilin lips, blushin voluptuous of desire, became a tronie part of his countenance ** whole, he screamed, foamy, unintel liible sounds!
