    Walking distance The Umeda Sky Building () is a spectacular high rise building in the Kita district of Osaka, near Osaka and Umeda StaBons. It is also known as the "New Umeda City". The 173 meter tall building consists of two main towers which are connected with each other by the "FloaBng Garden Observatory" on the 39th oor. The observatory oers a great view of the city for a 700 yen admission fee. The Takimi-koji restaurant mall, a replica of a Japanese street of the early Showa Period, can be found on the rst basement oor. Oces occupy most of the building's other oors.

    Kinkakuji (, Golden Pavilion) is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two oors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonj i , the temple was the reBrement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will it became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect aYer his death in 1408. Kinkakuji was the inspiraBon for the similarly named Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion), built by Yoshimitsu's grandson, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, on the other side of the city a few decades later

  • Kyoto Imperial Palace The Kyoto Imperial Palace (, Kyto Gosho) used to be the residence of Japan's Imperial Family unBl 1868, when the emperor and capital were moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. It is located in the spacious Kyoto Imperial Park (, Kyto Gyoen), an amracBve park in the center of the city that also encompasses the Sento Imperial Palace and a few other amracBons.

  • Pontocho Pontocho (, Pontoch) is one of Kyoto's most atmospheric dining areas. It is a narrow alley running from Shijo-dori to Sanjo-dori, one block west of Kamogawa River.
