Power Quality and Energy Audit Facility

Background:

Energy Saved is Energy Generated

India is facing grave crisis due to acute Shortage of Electrical Energy and ever growing demand.

With 80,000MW of installed capacity country needs an additional 80,000MW during the next

five years. Bulk of the Electricity is consumed by Industrial sector followed by Agriculture,

domestic and commercial applications. More than 70% of the electricity is consumed by electric

motors mainly in industry, agriculture and domestic appliances. Even a 5% saving in electricity

will prevent the need to install power plants of a few thousand MW. Energy conservation has

now become a necessity with Government of India formulating mandatory Energy Audit and

Energy conservation regulations.

Considerable energy saving is possible through proper choice of equipment, and their effective

use. Data of energy consumption pattern through Energy Audit for any given application

essential to evolve conservation measures. Since diagnosis proceeds treatment ant not an end in

itself one should find technical solution for the problem of inefficient energy use. In view of the

above, a State of the Art Electrical Energy Audit and Energy Conservation facility has been

established.

2- Computerized test facility for Energy Converters and drives3- Computation and CAD facility for Energy System

4- Electrical Machine Design Center.

Types of Energy Audit:

Energy Audit is a comprehensive study having following

The scope of proposed energy audit work shall include

1. Review of plant electrical demand and evaluate the possibility of improving power factor.

2. Assessment of pump performance in order to improve its energy efficiency.

3. Total Load Survey

4. Power Quality Information including Harmonics

5. Study of Lighting Load measurement and examine the feasibility of incorporating the energy

efficient lighting to reduce the unit consumption in the campus.

6. Review and development of management information system for effective monitoring of total

energy consumption to attain an optimum value through implementation of necessary

corrective measures.
