Background:

• Early reading can nurture children’s self-confidence and independence and ignite their creativity and imagination

RMHC to launch a brand-new school-based English reading

program in 2015

Beneficiary:

• Primary One to Three students from less privileged community

• Phase 1: Pilot test in 10 primary schools in Tin Shui Wai

Objectives:

• To make reading English books an enjoyable experience

• To encourage students actively discover the fun in reading

• To develop good reading habit at a young age and instill positive values and attitude in them

• To provide access and resources to less privileged students in reading English books

｢悅｣讀愛世界About Read the World

Program Features:

• Joyful and dynamic school-based English reading sessions led by well-trained Reading Buddies (fluent English speakers) in a ratio of 1:10 students

• Thematic reading sessions covering universal values to foster positive thinking and attitudes

• A bookshelf with English books* selected according to their language proficiency is donated to maximize fun in reading

Format:

• The program is to start from November 2015 till the end of 2nd term

• Reading Buddies stimulate interest in reading, encourage students to do independent reading and share their afterthoughts and reflections during the reading sessions (to be held during weekdays)

• An award ceremony to wrap up at end of the school year to recognize students’ efforts

• A certificate to be issued to acknowledge student’s participation in the program

• A donated bookshelf will be as the English corner to motivate students’ continued reading for enjoyment
