Plas&c Waste Stream Disrup&on Where locally produced plas&c waste is used for local products
• Cost of petroleum and new plas&c produc&on is cheap • In turn allowing for market &ming for post consumer disrup&on of waste stream
• Plas&c waste stream has detailed and intensive handling from transfer sta&on to bailing and redistribu&on
• Why not capitalize on detail handling with material produc&on and/or processing
• Access to material in a market where petroleum is at a low permits for low tech for inexpensive experimenta&on of the plas&c waste stream
• The NEK is poised with low density of people that can partners and become stakeholders, and future innovators (industrial manufacturing, addi&ve manufacturing, recrea&on and play)
• The waste stream disrup&on allows this to happen • Material are free and accessible • Partners and Space is available
• IWOW, Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District, and MISmakers
• Resources and &me with adequate goals and incen&ve can be obtained
• Win Win for all in todays technology transfer and experimenta&on with liNle to no large capital investment that may be a high risk!
• 85 % of plas+c waste are PTE (polyethylene terephthalate) clear plas+c, HDPE, (high density polyethylele), and LDPE (low density polyetheleyne)
• When market is low, virgin plas+cs are close to recycle plas+cs cost, tolerance for cost per ton are harder to achieve (reject rates, and rate drops for material)
• Closing loop on locally used plas+cs will insulate region from this – save energy in trucking/hauling costs, and leverage labor force into innova+ve sector that is sustainable
• MAJOR CASE: Food scrap recycling bins printer or molded with ease of design and use • Legisla+ve mandate requiring food scrap recycling-‐ • Bins used could be redesigned and be a produced by the shredderbot sub industry process
1. For+fy team: 1. NEK Waste Management 2. iWOW – Foundry – MISMakers-‐ NCIC-‐Regional
Industry
2. Con+nue Data gathering 1. Sourcing parts, material, and building prototype to 2. Document and measure results and obtainable goals
(repeat throughout process)
3. Launch test / trials 1. Itera+ve process with a +me scale of 1 major test/
trial/work push per 2 weeks
4. Market and share results and shredderbot process
5. Decide with test and results if sustainable/feasible
IMF and the Whole Ball of Wax
The inten+on is simple:
Leverage west Coast VT resources, and capaci+es to begin process and programs for the NEK
Use facili+es as needed in combina+on with NEK industries and partners.
Translate the fabrica+on test/ trail process to real word markets with a win win scenario base on IMF leverage start capital coverage and NEK partners
