Governor’s Update!
September/October Page 2
Hello everyone,
I first and foremost want to thank you! Thank you for all
that you do in your community and campus—every second
of service truly makes a difference and an impact on the
world. Members like you make representing our district such
a positive experience.
Our first district event, Fall Rally, was very successful this
year! With 70 people in attendance, we had a chance to
serve, learn new things about Circle K, fundraise for the Elimi-
nate Project, and make new friends. I would like to extend an
invitation to you to attend the next 3 district events: Snowpia,
LovePit, and District Convention as well. District events are a
great way to get the most out of your experience with Circle
K—it is much more than just giving back to the community. It
is a network of people around the state and around the
world who share the same interests and passions that you
and I do. Through these relationships and friendships formed,
we can achieve more and give back to the community way
more than ever imaginable otherwise.
I hope that this year the district can serve as a resource to you—whether you need ideas
for your club, your committee, or you need information on your position, we are here as a lead-
ership team to serve you!
With that being said, every other Sunday I send out an e-mail newsletter. If you would
like to keep in touch with all district, international, and subregion updates, please e-mail me at
[email protected] and let me know you would like to be added to the e-mail list! Al-
so, don’t be afraid to reach out to me at any time if you have any questions or just want to talk.
Lately I have been focusing my term on visiting clubs and keeping in contact with the
club presidents to stay updated on what each club in the district has been up to. I have made
sure as well to try and help clubs with things that I know I had trouble with when I was a club
president last year. I am also really excited because our district has a Club Building Committee
that has spent a lot of time this year working on the possibility of building new Circle K clubs at
colleges such as Concordia University, Kellogg Community College, University of Michigan
Dearborn, and Monroe Community College.
I absolutely cannot wait to see what amazing things your clubs continue to accomplish
throughout the rest of this school year. Please always remember that I’m just a phone call, text,
or e-mail away.
Yours in service,
Emily Bagwell

Fall Rally Recap
By: Nathan Wright, Bulletin Editor at Oakland University
The Michigan District of Circle K’s Fall Rally was the weekend of October 3rd
through the 5th,in Howell, Michigan. This event brought Circle K members from around
the state together to learn, serve, and have fun. Circle K members bonded, staying in
cabins on the cold and rainy nights and doing service projects and solving a murder by
day. Fall Rally was my first district as a Circle K member and it was a great introduction
to the club. The weekend didn’t just end with these events though, people bonded
through ping pong competitions, card games, and even dancing in the cafeteria.
It was an overall great weekend and we hope to see you all next year!
Interclub Recap!
September: Northwood Volleyball
September: MSU Picnic
September/October Page 4
This year our wonderful K-fam Chair Stacey Tyburski has implemented a Interclub system
that has been doing great so far! Every month, one or two clubs holds an event that is des-
ignated interclub, so that hopefully everyone will be able to visit each club at least once,
or have more chances too! Here are the recaps of the September and October events! I
hope everyone has much fun as I did!
Michigan State Circle K hosted a wonderful
picnic in late September. Everyone in at-
tendance donated food or money that
they donated to a local food bank. Circle
K’ers from MSU, U of M, CMU, EMU, and OU
attended to socialize, eat some good
food, and play some cool games! Hopeful-
ly we will have the opportunity again next
year!
By: Emily Bagwell, District Governor
On Sunday, September 21 Northwood Circle K was prepared to
hold our annual Mudpit Volleyball fundraiser where teams of 6
compete in a volleyball tournament in order to raise funds for
The Eliminate Project. Unfortunately, we had to reschedule the
event due to heavy rain, so we went out to eat at a Chinese res-
taurant in town for a delicious social. Thank you to members
of Eastern Michigan University Circle K, Ferris State University Cir-
cle K, and University of Michigan Ann Arbor Circle K who all trav-
eled around two hours to be in attendance! We hope that next
year you can join us again to actually compete in the tourna-
ment.
October: CMU 12 hrs. of Service!
October: Ferris State Haunted House
By: Amanda Demski, President of CMU
On October 25th, Circle K International at Central Michigan
hosted the third district inter club. This inter club was 12 hour
Day of Service and it went as well as it possibly could have. A
total of 61 people volunteering through out the Mount Pleas-
ant Area with a total of 414 hours of service. Some of the
events that we volunteered at were cleaning up at Coldwa-
ter Lake Park, raking for Commission on Aging, Ushering at
Grease the Musical, Scaring at Haunted Yard, and many
more. Each event brought a different amount of skills and op-
portunities that many people could enjoy what they signed
up for.
For everyone who came, we graciously thank you so much for
driving all the way to come and see us. We honestly could not
do it without any of you.
By: Matthew Lillie, U of M Student
Throughout the month of October,
Ferris State ran its annual haunted
house to help raise money for the Big
Rapids Community. The interclub was
held on October 18th with EMU, OU, U
of M, and WSU in attendance. We
had a great time dressing up and
scaring people for a good cause! It
promoted fellowship between club
members while scaring people. We
can’t wait for next year!
Thanks for Coming!

Oakland University!
By: Nathan Wright
Oakland University volunteered at the Cranbrook Wa-
ter Festival that occurred on September 11th at; you
guessed it, the Cranbrook institute. This event was a
great opportunity to get involved with today’s youth.
Stacey Tyburski and I both led groups of fourth graders
throughout the institute from station to station in order
to raise awareness of creating a healthy environment
through water conservation and acting responsible
where water and drainage is concerned. This unique
event taught students how their actions at home and
in the community effects wildlife, and the water supply.
The members of Circle K International at Central Michigan University have been staying busy this
semester with attending many wonderful service events. Within the last couple of weeks leading
up to Halloween, our club has been volunteering many hours at the Haunted Yard, which is filled
with many spooky creatures but also has a “safe deck” for those who may get too scared. are al-
ways welcome, which are given back to the clubs. Volunteering at the Haunted Yard is a spookily
good time!
The Haunted Yard is not the only thing that Circle K members have been up too. Some other ser-
vice events of this semester have been helping with the "Into the Light" Cancer walk, working at
the Discovery Museum for Day of Play, volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, 12 Hour Day of Ser-
vice, and distributing dictionaries to the elementary schools in the community. Along with these
service events, members have gotten together for socials, including going to Papa’s Pumpkin
Patch for some cider and donuts, and also going to the Malt Shop Café for some delicious food
and desserts
Snowpia is the second district event of the year! It will be November 8th from 12
-6pm! It will be hosted by Northwood University Circle K in Midland Michigan. It will
be a day full of service and fellowship! There will be a variety of service projects and
then there will be a ton of social activities, including movies and board games! The
cost will be $10 for the day. There will also be a mascot auction to raise money for
the ELMINIATE project. The theme will be Frozen!!! It is going to be really wonderful
event, we hope to see you all there!

Kiwanis Sign Road
Rally Competition!
Have you ever noticed those round signs with a ‘K’ on them when you enter a
new city? Well if you haven’t before, you will soon! The Kiwanis Family Rela-
tions Committee of the Michigan District of Circle K has introduced a new
competition this year. Clubs will be competing against each other to see
which school can take pictures with the most Kiwanis International signs. A Cir-
cle K member must be in each picture and bonus points are awarded if any-
one in the picture is wearing a shirt representing a branch of the Kiwanis fami-
ly. The competition is already underway! Right now Central Michigan is in the
lead with Oakland University right behind them. Pictures are due a week be-
fore District Convention, but you better hurry! Once a sign is claimed, no other
club will be able to get points for that specific sign. After you take a picture,
send it to your club president so they can turn it in. If you have any questions
feel free to e-mail Kiwanis Family Relations Committee Chair Stacey Tyburski at
[email protected]. Happy sign hunting!

An MRF is a Monthly Report Form. CKI uses them to get an update from all the Circle Ks about what they have been
doing the community. MRFs include information about service events, membership numbers, interclubs, kfam events,
meetings, and anything else significant the club has been working on. An interclub is when one Circle K does a social,
service event, or attends a meeting of another Circle K and at least 2 members are present from each club. A Kfam
event is when a Circle K does a social, service event, or attends a meeting of another branch of Kiwanis that isn't Circle
K and at least 2 members are present from each club. Overall MRFs are a great way to stay up to date on all the great
community service everyone in Circle K International is doing. This year, the Michigan District of Circle K is using a new
form which can be found at mrf.micirclek.org. MRFs are due on the 5th of every month. If you have any questions
about submitting your club's MRF, please contact Chiara at [email protected]
MRF Reminder:
Don’t forget the numbers
for these goals are based
on MRF reports, so make
sure you report everything
your club does!

Circle K Service Day (CKSD) is an annual 24 hour day
of service organized by the Circle K at the University
of Michigan. This year CKSD will be taking place 8
am Saturday, November 15th to 8 am Sunday, No-
vember 16th hosted at the Ginsberg Center located at 1024 Hill Street.
Also this year marks the 10th year anniversary of CKSD. Individuals inter-
ested in attending the event can sign up on the service day web-
site: http://mcirclek.org/serviceday/. Participants can attend as many
or as few projects as they would like. CKSD consists of various projects
consisting of on-site projects, off-site projects, and reflections. On-site
projects take place at the host site and range from writing cards to
making dresses. Off-site projects take place around the Ann Arbor
community and neighboring areas. The LEAD Committee organizes re-
flections throughout service day to allow participants to reflect on their
volunteering experience. This year CKSD will be Carnival themed and
participants will have the opportunity to engage in various carnival in-
spired fundraisers! Overall, CKSD is a wonderful opportunity to partici-
pate in a variety of service projects and meet new people!!! If you are
interested in signing up for service day or have any questions in regards
to attending you can contact the Kiwanis Family Relations Chair, Chi-
