S HE ALMOST thought of quitting her longtimeromance with beauty pageants for good. But Rizzini Alexis

Gomez, who bested 55 otherinternational delegates in the

2012/2013 Miss Tourism Inter-national in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia, last Dec. 31, said herfather inspired her to keep going.

“My dad always said, ‘If youwant something, you have tohope, and hope for the best.’ Sothat’s it. I won the Mutya ngPilipinas, and then I represent-ed the country in the MissTourism International pageant,”Gomez told media men in her

nationwide Aliwan Festival andwas declared “Reyna ng Ali-wan” while representing theSinulog Festival of Cebu.

The January festivities cele-brated in the “Queen City of theSouth” is significant for Gomeztwice over.

During the question-and-an-swer round in the Miss TourismInternational, Gomez was askedwhat is the most important festi-val in the country and whatmakes it unique. It was the samequestion that made her win her

homecoming press conferenceat the Midas Hotel in Pasay Citylast Friday afternoon.

Gomez, a registered nurse, missed the cut in the 2012Binibining Pilipinas pageant andfailed to make it to the finalround of the 2012 Miss WorldPhilippines contest.

Her sterling pageant recorddates back to 2008 when shewas proclaimed Miss Mandaue.A year after, she placed secondin the Miss Cebu pageant. In2010, she participated in the

Reyna ng Aliwan title in 2010.She replied: “One of the most

important festivals that the Fil-ipinos celebrate is the SinulogFestival. It is unique because ofthe undying devotion of the Fil-ipinos to the Señor Santo Niño orthe Child Jesus. It’s a symbol ofour cultural heritage and our uni-ty and diversity and bringing peo-ple together for a brighter future.”

Gomez also believed that thisdevotion of hers made herstand out in a field of 56formidable contenders.
