MEIJI UNIVERSITY Weekly Schedule – Advanced English 2020s

Dr. Rubrecht, Wednesday 1 Hello students! My name is Dr. Brian G. Rubrecht（ルブレクト）and I will be your instructor this year. I am so happy to teach you! This sheet explains what we will do for the spring semester 2020. Please read it carefully. This sheet shows the weekly schedule. Each week gives you the activities, goals, and webpages for the on demand videos and answers sheets. We will use Oh-o! Meiji some, but I am not sure how much yet. That’s ok. If you follow the weekly activities, you can go at your own pace! And you can ask questions any time. Please read all of this Weekly Schedule first. All of it. Understand what we will be doing this semester. Then, read each week’s lesson BEFORE the class meeting. From Week 3, you might want to do the assignments (on demand videos and answer sheets) BEFORE the class meeting as well (or at least DURING the class meeting) just in case we need to get together on Zoom. Using Zoom may not be possible, but we will try. • You can click video links to watch the videos. • You can click the links for Microsoft Word docx and pdf for the documents, or you

can go to my webpage and download them from there. The documents will either be in the “Downloads-General” section link or in the “Downloads-TOEIC” section link.

• If possible, print the docx or pdf files. • I will try to be on Zoom 20 minutes before the end of each class. I want to meet

students, answer questions, and give feedback. Be on Zoom at the end of class if you need help with something. Set an alarm so you won’t be late to the Zoom meetings!

• If you cannot be on Zoom, do not worry. It is not required. If you are not on Zoom it will not influence your grade.

[6] I have made a checklist so you know what needs to be emailed to me (and when). PLEASE BE CAREFUL! These sheets represent part of your grade. Email on the day of class, but only AFTER class has finished! I want everyone to know how to do this.

• For our first class, let’s be on Zoom. Try to be in the Zoom classroom by 9:00. If you cannot log in today, don’t worry. It will not affect your grade.

• Check Oh-o! Meiji (or possibly my webpage at the “Downloads-TOEIC” link) for Zoom Meeting ID information.

• Remember: the typical purpose of Zoom is to see each other and for me to check if you have any questions or problems, and to give feedback when necessary. I want to use this for the first lesson to make sure everyone is ok.

• If Zoom does not work, it’s ok. Relax! We might have to just try a few things to see if they work.

[8] Do you see? Because Zoom might not work and because some students might not be able to log in to Zoom, we need the ARS. That is your attendance grade! [9] Fill out the ARS.
