"The Baldrige National Quality Award program is apowerful management system because it
challenges organizations to identify andrecognize existing systems within theirorganization.Systems encompass everyaspect of any organization from studentrecruitment to delivery of instruction, from
planning to human resource management.Once systems are documented, work can begin incontinuous improvement on an organization-widescale. (Sorenson et. al., 2005)

Special Features of EFQM
EFQM Model is the most value-added InstitutionalExcellence Model in the World.
It stimulates organizational learning and innovation.
It provides with a powerful tool of self-assessment whichcan help HEIs to establish a permanent learning cycle forcontinuous improvement, ultimately leading to thetransformation of HEIs into learning institutions.
It is a recommended management methodology servingthe core purposes of Higher Education. (The UKUniversities Consortium for Excellence in HigherEducation.)
It is wholly compatible with the U.N. World Declaration onpurposes of HE.

Conclusion and
Recommendations EFQM, BNQA and ISO 9000 models have thenecessary potential to provide an effectivemanagement framework to achieve academicexcellence at institutional level.
The models can be used in combination withvarious pedagogical models and internationallyrecognized quality standards of HE to achieveexcellence in teaching, learning, research and
scholarship.
An AnnualAcademic Excellence Award, based onEFQM model, should be introduced in Pakistan topromote a culture of academic excellence in HE
institutions in the country.
