Wednesday Nights Resume This Week!Heres the lineup of events for you, your family and your friends starting September 9
Do you know the real Jesus?By Mike Rose, Senior Pastor
Today during our Sunday morning teaching time,
begins an extended look at the person and work of Jesus.
The overarching title of the series is The Jesus Our Culture
Doesnt Know. The fact is that...our culture knows about a
Jesus but the Jesus they know is not always the Jesus of the
Bible. Beyond seeking to learn true facts about Jesus, we
will hopefully get to know Him more intimately.
To begin this panoramic view of Jesus, well start with
8 Misconceptions about Jesus. There are many state-
ments about Jesus that are inaccurate and some that are
downright deceptive. During the month of September we
will look at eight of these misconceptions. The goal will be
to examine the Bible to learn the correct understanding we
should have about Jesus. I hope you will join us for all fourSundays, inviting a friend to join you.

MISSION ONE Reaching others for Jesus Christ
Calling Christians to Prayfor the Muslim Worldby WorldChristian.com
Secret believersThe real cost of following Jesus
For a former Muslim, becoming a believer in the Messiahis more than simply changing religions. In leaving Islam, the
person has left his identity. The consequences of this choice are
terrible: new believers are often rejected by thier family and
other Muslims and sometimes they are forced to divorce and lose
their children. They can lose their inheritance, their employment,
their lodging, receive death threats and some are actually killed.
In many cases they are obliged to live their new faith in secret
because of the fear of persecution. They become real secret
believers. Many are isolated, and it is very difficult for them to
persevere in their faith. The new believer needs a new identity.
Prayer Requests:
For the secret believers who are even now facing the pos-sibility of death.
For their families that they also may be attracted to the light
of Christ. Pray that there would be a change of mentality so
that Muslims can accept believers in the Messiah as honor-
able members of society.
That the situation of secret believers would be better known;
that believers all over the world could give them help.
Michael & April, Two SonsLocation: Closed Country
What do they do? Michael and April par ticipate in ongoing
survey and translation work focusing on reaching a specificunreached minority people group with the Gospel. The
complicated language, along with trade languages, must be
mastered to reach those in remote areas. They are part of a
strategic partnership between various organizations seeking
to serve the same language group.
Praises
They have their visas for another year.
Oldest sons schooling in an affordable programhe will be
traveling away for one week out of every month.
Prayer Requests
That their landlord will not sell the apartment they use as a
base in town for at least one year.
Wisdom for Mike in developing the language data.
For their two village daughters, orphaned at a young age,
who have many needs.
For wisdom and responsibility in their daily decisions and in
their words and actions.
Sarah DeckerMission Board: InterVarsity
Location: Nice, France (in transition to Aus-
tralia)
What does she do? Sarah co-leads a ministry
team. She is responsible for leading, train-ing and mentoring new team members.
Her team serves on two university cam-
puses, Liberal Arts and Medical, and also links with Group
Bible Universities (GBU) to plan activities and outreaches.
Her team also works with a local church and a large number
of young women who attend Bible studies.
Praises
For 6 years of ministry in France.
For her upcoming marriage to Shaun Fielding (an Austra-
lian) on December 24, 2009.
Prayer Requests
For six-month home assignment and reconnecting with sup-
porters; for her study of theology and Bible in Seattle.
For her wedding in Washington and adjustment to married
life.
For her move to Australia to minister with InterVarsity
among 130,000+ international students who live in Mel-
bourne.
Glenn & CarolLocation: Closed Country/transition to US
What do they do? Glenn and Carol served as tentmakers in a
predominately Muslim country where residents and touristsare forbidden to give testimony of Christ in their lives. Their
team was involved in church planting and the translation, ed-
iting and printing of the New Testament and prayer booklet
in the national language. Carol is the daughter of Herman
and Naida Reeve.
Praise
For FFCs support of their ministry since 1981.
Prayer Requests
For their new role representing their mission board full time
in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota.
For building a new ministry and church planting team to
pray for and reach Muslims.
For bringing awareness to Christians and churches regarding
Muslims in many universities and cities throughout the US.
For their role of serving to equip and be mentors for church-
es, singles, students, couples and families in the Midwest
preparing to serve in the Muslim world overseas.
For more time as parents to Samuel, Timothy and Sarah,
helping them to adjust to what the Lord has for them.

Host Families Needed! And of some Have COMPASSION MAKING A DIFFERENCE Jude 1:22
The Drake University International Student American
Family Friendship Ministry provides a way for international
students to connect with and become friends with an American
family during the students time in the United States. The fr iend-
ship program is unique in that the students do not live with their
American family.
While the program is officially non-faith based, our goal is
to recruit individuals, couples and families from Bible believing
churches to be host families before recruiting from alternatesources to ensure that each student has an opportunity to see and
experience the love of Jesus through their host family and, hope-
fully, desire to have Jesus as a part of their life as well.
Many of the students return to their countries after their time
in the U.S. and become leaders in their fields of study. What an
opportunity we have to reach the lost in foreign countries from
our own homes here in the U.S.A
The friendship program is extremely flexible in that you
choose the level of commitment that you are willing to make and
you choose the activities to par ticipate in with your student. Your
student will be incredibly thankful for whatever you can do.
Each student is made in Gods image and He loves them. It is
our wonderful privilege to convey that message by letting themsee Jesus in us as we embrace them, include them in our families
and allow them into our l ives.
We currently have 50 students in need of a host family. If you
are interested in investing in the life of an international student,
please contact Dan and Amy Stout at 419-5584 or Brighten-
Large Flower Pots NeededAdd a little color to our facility by donating large flower pots
to the church. Contact Kae Deardorff, 987.3524, for information.
SERVE PEOPLE
Steward Your Musical Gifts!By David Bush
Our bodies can only function the way they
should when all of the gifts and talents God has
placed within us are being utilized. Whether
it be an ability to teach, cook, serve, create
or sing, God has a desire to use your gifts to
benefit the body. This is as true in Worship Ministries as it is
in any other par t of FFC. Perhaps you look at
whats happening on the platform on Sundays
and figure that all the needs we have are being met. While its
true that God has raised up a wonderful and faithful group of
musicians and vocalists who are committed to giving Him their
best, we are still less than we should be if you have a contribution
to make and arent making it.
Can you sing on pitch and with confidence? Can you sing
parts and blend with others? Do you have a soloist-quality voice?
Are you a keyboard player who is able to read music charts and
is familiar with rhythm, string and effects settings available on
modern equipment? Have you been a part of an orchestra in thepast? Can you rip off electric guitar solos like Lincoln Brewster
but only do it in your basement? Just as importantly, does your
lifestyle reflect a life of worship?
If so, the Worship Ministries here at FFC would love to hear
from you. We have a non-threatening auditioning process and
two very different worship formats that you might fit into. If
youre willing, well take a listen!
Contact Deb Boscaljon in the Worship Ministries office

Sewing BeeWe need how many?!
We need five to six hundred small clothdrawstring bags for the shoe boxes we send
out for Operation Christmas Child.
Soooooo we thought we would have a
sewing bee. It will be fun! We can visit while
we cut, sew, press and string the bags. You dont sew, but would
like to help? You can cut out bags, or press them or slide the
string through the casing.
Come and help on Wednesday, September 9 and Wednesday,
September 16 from 9:00AM until 5:00PM in room 118. Bring a
sewing machine if you can, as we have only three we can use. We
could also use cutting mats, rotary cutters and sewing shears.
Bring a sack lunch or chip in and order out. Come when you
can and leave when you must, or just stay for the first Wednesday
night meal in the evening.
Please let us know if you can help. Call Lois Grove, 254.1141,
Joanne Zunkel, 270.2521, or church office, 255.2122.

KZ ChurchOops! This week really is our last
week of Fish Tales even though we
told you that last week. During this series
weve learned all about how to be fishers
of men. Today we learned about Stephen (the one in the Bible)
and how he was bold in sharing his faith. When were afraid to
tell others about Jesus, we can give our fears to God and then be
bold to share our faith with our friends and schoolmates too.
Be sure to check out all of the great additional information in
the weekly handout your kids will bring home from KZ Church.
Get the whole family involved in the discussion topics and watch
these lessons come alive for you and your children.

Thank YouMany grateful thanks to the First Federated pastors, staff and
congregation who have kept me in their prayers during my hos-

the visits, phone calls and the many beautiful cards. Im so glad
to be a member of First Federated Church and Gods family. As I
am still not quite back to normal, would you please keep praying
for me, for strength and healing. God bless all of you.In His love, Sybil Bockert
We appreciate all of the cards, calls, and prayers during the
time of losing Larrys brother, Marion. It was great to have FFC
friends come to the visitation and funeral too. Once again we
were reminded of how important it is to be ready for that last
breath God has for us.

Thank you for all the prayers, love, cards and calls during

Iowa Right to Life Book SaleSeptember 914 (Closed Sunday)Veterans Memorial Auditorium at the Events Center | FREE Parking!
For over 20 years, Planned Parenthood of Iowa has had a book
sale and used the funds to push their agenda on our children
and communities. Sadly, Christians and pro-life people have
inadvertently helped Planned Parenthood by attending their book
sale. Now your extra books can support the semi-annual Right to
Life Book Sale at Veterans Auditorium.
Whom do we call to volunteer to help with the book
sale? Rhonda Phillips, 515.205.8024, or Kim Lehman,515.202.2517. All ages are welcome and teens may be
dropped off at Iowa Right to Life for the day.
Are the books a tax-deductible gift? Yes. All donations are tax
deductible and receipts are available at all drop off sites or
via e-mail by request.
Is this political? No. This is about saving children in the womb
and out of the womb. It is a very important cause and worth
our time and energy.
Which pregnancy centers will receive the proceeds? All Iowa
pregnancy centers, maternity homes and adoption agencies
on the IRLC websiteincluding the Gabriel Project and any
new pregnancy center that is not yet listed. See www.IRLC.org.
