  • Speed, Safety and Simplicity.

Empowering engineers to perform the most demanding tests, PAK

has evolved to meet the latest challenges in Aerospace noise and

vibration. PAK acs with continuous LIVE DATA STREAMING

maximizes operational safety with an always-on, decoupled system

and a one-window-workspace for performing controlled acoustic

    excitation.

    Acoustic Control

  • | 3

The PAK Acoustic Control System – PAK acs – is designed for high-pressure sound field simulation, with a safely controlled excitation signal to meet a user-defined reference spectrum. A white noise drive signal is controlled in 1/1 or 1/3 octave bandwidths with manual or automatic loop control.

PAK acs supports both linear and non-linear closed loop algorithms. Up to 16 independent output channels are optimally controlled and accurately interfaced within the complete measurement path. Modulators, loudspeakers, microphones, the reverberation chamber as well as the item under test are all cautiously considered.

With PAK acs, users can perform simultaneous control of the overall sound pressure levels around the test item while monitoring, in parallel, the test units’ behavior with the help of narrowband channels. The comparison of the measured sound pressure levels with target values; closed loop control of the acoustic excitation; manual tuning of the drive spectrum; sequencing of specified test levels according to the given test schedule as well as continued compliance with the highest safety requirements is possible.

Since the introduction of the first commercial acoustic control system in 1996, MÜLLER-BBM VibroAkustik Systeme has been continuously working with customers and partners to create test solutions that seamlessly integrate into the laboratories while improving the entire test workflow. From these efforts the demand for speed, safety and simplicity stood out and PAK acs was created – an intelligent control system designed, qualified and delivered specifically for acoustic control testing.

Embedded on the proven PAK MKII acquisition platform and incorporating PAK live technology, PAK acs is always in command with the Wind River® VxWorks® Real Time Operating System.

From power-up to shut-down, the intelligent system is streaming and optionally recording all channels while always monitoring all preset safety parameters. Dedicated to fast loop control and reliable data acquisition, PAK acs operates independently regardless of the state of the external computer. Should an event occur prior to, during or after the test, PAK acs would have it recorded using its circular buffer. In any test state, being live allows the continuous monitoring of all channels all of the time.

  • PAK acs is an application that is scalable, robust and secure. Allowing for quick configuration, setup and control/monitoring of measured channels, the workflow of acoustic control testing is faster and easier than ever before. This enables the operator to focus exclusively on the structural behavior of the test item while simplifying the test management.

Its intuitive, application-specific user interface is easy to navigate. All capabilities to guarantee test object safety, minimize test item fatigue and secure reliable data are inherent to the system. From power-up, PAK acs is automatically ready to measure and record. Input data is clearly visualized through a smart device or personal computer. Calibration can be effortlessly performed by one person.

Test preparation is equally simple. The optimized user interface allows for a stringent, logical and quick test definition, including the recall of previously stored settings and drive spectra. Test parameters, safety settings and abort conditions are sequentially defined for every measurement step. All test conditions can be stored for reporting and future use.

During pre-test, the equalization of the drive spectrum is performed either automatically or through manual tuning. Different test levels, along with an optional process control capability, are predefined and displayed prominently to avoid disturbances during the actual test run.

Comprehensive analysis, customizable graphics and powerful 2D/3D reports are easily executed. Test results are delivered automatically to Microsoft® Office in one step. All data acquired can be processed further and shared using the broad range of analysis tools available in the PAK family.

During challenging high-energy acoustic testing, the health and condition of the test object is crucial. To achieve this, a multitude of elaborate safety measures have to be made in order to minimize test object fatigue and the risk of any possible damage. PAK acs offers unmatched safety capabilities which can be relied on to produce the test protection possible.

    Key safety features include:

    • Facility Control System interface for a safe system starts and shutdown.• Selective, hand-shake-controlled outputs, independently monitored and switchable.• Independent and intelligent operation where the device is capable of completing defined

actions without any further interaction.• Uninterrupted operation in case of power failure, connection loss and other unforeseen

events.• Continuous data recording eliminating risk of data loss.

As the recognized standard for aerospace testing, the PAK family provides comprehensive solutions for high-speed dynamic data acquisition and control for vibration, shock and fatigue, ranging from a few to thousands of channels, phase-synchronized with 24 bit and up to 800 kSa/s. Buffered analog outputs are optionally available for all input channels. The intelligent PAK MKII acquisition platform features integrated advanced signal conditioning with variable sampling rates for microphones, ICP®, voltage, charge, thermocouples, strain, tacho and much more. Superior synchronization over GPS, IRIG, PTP or fiber-optic cable is available as well as user-defined, band-limited analog outputs for 16 independent channels.

An embedded local SSD stores continuously time domain data. With an integrated facility control interface (FCI) and an internal battery, the PAK MKII is always in command even in the event of a power loss. Optional WLAN connectivity ensures an easy data transfer for smart devices and monitors.

With PAK, users also benefit from one system for lab and field applications.
