ATTENTION TO DETAIL
www.usa .phi l ips .com
In 2012, I was involved in a live university project with Philips. The brief was to introduce the Philips brand to the Generation Y shaving market.
My teams idea to co-brand Philips with AXE, creating tongue-in-cheek advertising and youthful design, was later taken into production.
BRAND MARKETING
Designing this collection, I intended to challenge western ideals of beauty and explore how a negative action, in this case destruction, could become something positive through design. Inspired by Oriental philosophy and Schumpeterian ideals of ‘creative destruction’, the collection has done just that. In it we explore the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. Through it we are made aware of the organic and natural beauty that surrounds us.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
The collection was inspired when I saw firsthand, the extent of waste in the marble industry.
I wanted to challenge conventional perceptions of waste and created artistic beauty out of materials once thought worthless. Offcuts of marble are redeemed from destruction and used to create reflective pieces that demand an emotional as much as an artistic response.
A BEAUTY OF THINGS IMPERFECT, IMPERMANENT, AND
INCOMPLETE.
NEGRO MARQUINA MARBLE, MILD STEEL - EXTERNALLY PATINATED, INTERNALLY POLISHED
SYMMETRY IN CHAOS
Reflecting the intended destruction in the design, the collection displays
stark steel juxtaposed with the marble; we see quite blatantly the story of
this destruction and waste, and at the same time our minds are opened to
the potential that is in the perceived imperfections around us. The polished
steel exposes a moment of destruction, spiraling wildly with enormous
energy, and giving life back to the once forgotten marble fragment.
ARABESCATO MARBLE, STAINLESS STEEL - EXTERNALLY & INTERNALLY POLISHED
By using fragmental offcuts - once thought waste - as forms for artistic
products, the fragments are given new life. Despite being designed into
practical products, the multifaceted meaning to the work stimulates thought
and reflection more than use. The fragments are transformed into a piece
with transcendental beauty, such that calls for a closer look. It’s as if the
careful tailoring and artistic respect of the natural, once forgotten shapes,
creates an artifact that demands observation. It is on this premise that
this collection sits: design that provokes thought, stimulates emotion, and
brings depth to our surroundings.
WINNER OF ASTRO LIGHTING
COMPETITION 2014
Within this project I demonstrated the ability to design a range of lighting (ceiling, table, floor, wall lights) that could fit within a
company’s extensive product selection, whilst becoming something new and interesting for the company to inspire to. This was a materials led design project; the lamp shades are made from reflective privacy window film (gold, silver & graphite) and the stands/fixings are mild
steel.

WINNER OF LACOSTE SS14
FOOTWEAR COMPETITION
In 2013 I designed footwear for Lacoste’s seasonal sports range // SS14. Responding to the urban cycling trend, the design of the footwear focused on attracting this particular market. Thinking holistically
about products in this way expanded my design capabilities.

During my university studies, I secured an internship with renowned avant-garde design duo Fredrikson Stallard, progressing to a junior
design role on graduation in May 2015. For the last three years I have been greatly involved with the studio’s work, verbally and visually
communicating with some of the leading names in contemporary design: Swarovski, Jaguar, Brioni, Driade, Veuve Cliquot, LVMH, London Design
Festival and David Gill Galleries, among others.
I have taken projects from an initial sketch right through to manufacture. For example, creating a series of steel chairs, which I made scale models
and prototypes for, and sourced metal fabricators and upholsters.

Assisting in the management of productions for Fredrikson Stallard’s ‘Momentum’ exhibition for London Design Festival 2015, I was largely involved in the manufacture of their seven designs and
artworks, kept good relations between suppliers & manufactures, and eased the general running of the studio. I also delegated tasks
for a team of two interns.
