RG357M Hydraulic Cylinder Tie Rods Product Improvement- Rotary CompressorsVibration of the hydraulic cylinder tie rods may occur when RG357M compressors operate at certainspeeds. Damage to the tie rods can result. To dampen tie rod vibration, cylinder expanders must beadded under new tie rods.
A tie rod retrofit kit, Ariel part number 002646, containsparts to update one compressor. The kit includes twoexpanders and eight replacement tie rods to retrofitboth the capacity cylinder and Vi cylinder.
Also required but not included: Loctite grade 242 tosecure the hardware.
Recommended tools to install the retrofit kit: 9/16 inch wrench, vise grips, torque wrench.
Apply Loctitegrade 242 to the3/8-24 tie rodthreads and installrods securely in ahydraulic cylinder.Leave 9-3/8 in.(23.8 cm) of tie rodprotruding fromblock. Reassemblewith an expanderpositioned half wayalong the length of the cylinder tube. Tighten tie rod nuts to 28 lb-ft (38 Nm) torque in incrementsusing an alternating (criss-cross) pattern.
