The West Slope of Mount Baekdu: Creative Dialogue

백두산 ( 白頭山 ) 의 석파 ( 西坡 ) : 대화

Instructions ( 지시 사항 ):

Please read the sample dialogue (견본 대화) about the West Slope of Mount Baekdu (백두산의 석파). Please check that you understand the sample dialogue. Later, you will make up a new dialogue (새로운 대화) about Mount Baekdu’s West Slope.

Sample dialogue ( 견본 대화 ):

Ji-hye: When we visited the North Slope (북파 / 北坡) of Mount Baekdu, I felt disappointed (실망했습니다).

Cheol-su: Yes, me too. It was very touristy (관광객들은 너무 많이 있었습니다), and it was also very expensive (비쌌어요).

Ji-hye: Well, I was disappointed for another reason: there was no opportunity to go hiking (등산하는 기회 가 없었습니다). I wanted to climb Mount Baekdu, but it wasn’t possible.

Cheol-su: Maybe the West Slope (석파 / 西坡) will be different. Maybe there will be an opportunity to go hiking.

Ji-hye: I hope so.

Cheol-su: Here we are at Heaven Lake (천지)! The shuttle bus has arrived!

Ji-hye: Look! There are some steps.

Cheol-su: How many steps are there?

Ji-hye: The sign says that there are 1,442 steps.

Page 2: Mount Baekdu (West Slope): Sample Dialogue

Cheol-su: Let’s climb the steps. Let’s go to Heaven Lake. By the way, what are those men carrying?

Ji-hye: Those men are carrying sedan chairs. Some tourists (관광객들) prefer to be carried in a sedan chair. It’s easier than hiking.

Cheol-su: That’s true, but I enjoy hiking.

Ji-hye: Cheol-su, these steps are numbered. This is step number one thousand. We’re nearly there!

Cheol-su: How exciting! I’m excited about seeing Heaven Lake again.

Ji-hye: Maybe we won’t be able to see it. It’s very misty (안개낀).

Cheol-su: Here we are at Heaven Lake! There are so many people here. Some people are looking at Heaven Lake. Other people are posing for photographs or buying souvenirs (기념품).

Ji-hye: We’re very near the North Korean border (북한의 국경). China is on one side and North Korea is on the other.
