Hosting a Magic: The Gathering® Prerelease event is the best way to get players excited about the Magic 2015 core set because this is the first opportunity players will have to play with it.The Magic 2015 core set Prerelease also presents players with a special opportunity to open a Prerelease Pack and choose a color with the help of a specially-designed seeded booster pack. In addition, each Magic 2015 core set Prerelease Pack includes a special Garruk the Slayer Challenge card, an exciting activity for players to get involved with the “Hunt Bigger Game” contest.

Choosing a Magic 2015 Prerelease Pack

There are five Magic 2015 core set Prerelease Packs, one for each color. Each comes with a seeded booster pack that corresponds with that color. When registering for the Prerelease tournament, each player chooses a Prerelease Pack. The seeded booster pack will assist players in building a deck by providing a starting point in their chosen color. Each seeded booster pack contains a promo card, which players may include in their tournament decks.

Oversized Garruk the Slayer Challenge Card

Included with the Magic 2015 core set Prerelease Packs is an oversized Garruk the Slayer planeswalker card. This is an optional activity for players to enjoy between rounds. One player assumes the role of Garruk the Slayer while another player challenges Garruk with his or her Prerelease deck. More instructions for the activity can be found on the card. The Wolf tokens included with the

Prerelease Packs will be used with the Garruk the Slayer planeswalker card.

Prerelease Events

Stores may run up to three events at Core level, or six at Advanced level. Future Prerelease product allocations are based on participation in these main events. You may run your events as Sealed Deck or Two-Headed Giant Sealed Deck at any time on July 12–13, 2014. Prereleases do not have side events.

Each player receives one Magic 2015 core set Prerelease Pack of his or her choice (while supplies last).

Players may use the promo cards included in their Prerelease Packs in their sealed decks.

Event Information

The minimum deck size for Sealed Deck is 40 cards. Please allow players time to construct a deck. Newer players may need more time than experienced players, so allow at least 30 minutes for deckbuilding.

Sealed Deck—Each player receives one Magic 2015 core set Prerelease Pack to build a deck.

Two-Headed Giant Sealed Deck—Each team of two players receives two Magic 2015 core set Prerelease Packs to build decks (players may use cards from either pack in their decks; the colors do not need to be the same).

The tournament should be run Swiss-style with players of the same record playing each other. A single-elimination cut is optional, but not recommended. Wizards Event Reporter will handle all of the details for you.

Entry Fee and Prizes

Entry fees may include cost of player product and any additional prize support you wish to offer.

• Decide and announce the prize payout before the tournament begins.

• All free product provided to you must be given out over the course of your Prerelease events. We recommend that at least two Magic 2015 core set

booster packs be added to the prize pool for each player in the event. You may give out additional Magic 2015 core set booster packs as prizes while your

supplies last.

• We encourage you to add on other non-Magic 2015 prize support at your own discretion.

Other than your Prerelease prizes, no Magic 2015 core set product may be used or given away until the official release

date: July 18, 2014.

Open Dueling

Open Dueling is for newer players who may not be comfortable building a sealed deck. Open Dueling should be reported as casual play (player list only) in Wizards Event Reporter.

Open Dueling players each receive one Magic 2015 core set Intro Pack.

Open Dueling players play against each other, as well as Prerelease tournament players who are between matches. All players should be encouraged to help teach Open Dueling participants how to play Magic.
