Bang Pu has been a popular seaside

resort since the reign of King Rama V or

138 years ago. The enchantment of Bang Pu

does not lie only in watching a large number

of seagulls but also many recreational sites

to visit.

Welcome to the Town of History & Nature Readers

may wonder about the origin of @SAMUTPRAKAN

Travel magazine and to whom it belongs. From

the editorial listing, it is said that the owner is

Samut Prakan Provincial Administration Organization

which is a government agency. However, the design,

layout and content are all modern plus being

a bilingual magazine make this magazine completely

different from other official publications. All of which

are in response to the policy and objective of

Samut Prakan Provincial Administration Organization

to adjust the image of Samut Prakan from an

industrial town to a tourism destination with history,

natural beauty and many interesting stories that

have not yet been publ ic ized to the publ ic ,

particularly travelers.

With the above reasons, @SAMUTPRAKAN Travel

was born to be an intermediate bringing good news

to readers and also inviting travelers to visit. It is

as if we are opening the door to welcome visitors.

Good stories that editorial team presents is just a

segment of this charming historical and natural town

by the Gulf of Thailand estuary. With the limitation of

available pages of each issue, words cannot describe as

fully everything as you visit and see with your own eyes.

Visit Samut Prakan just once and you will be

impressed and surprised why you have overlook

such a beautiful town with touch of history and

nature that is second to none. Most important of all is

ประจ�าป 2557 (Thailand Tourism Festival 2014) ระหวางวนท

4-8 มถนายน 2557 ณ ชาเลนเจอร 1 อมแพค เมองทองธาน

ซงมพธเปดงานอยางเปนทางการ เมอวนท 4 มถนายน โดยม

นายอครวฒน อศวเหม รองนายก อบจ.สมทรปราการ เปนผกลาว

ตอนรบ นายถาวร วฒนกล ทองเทยวและกฬาจงหวดสมทรปราการ

กลาวรายงาน และมนายคณต เอยมระหงษ ผวาราชการจงหวด

สมทรปราการ เปนประธานกลาวเปดงาน วตถประสงคการจดงาน

เพอน�าเสนอสนคาคณภาพ และประชาสมพนธแหลงทองเทยวของ

จงหวดสมทรปราการ ใหเปนทร จกในภาคธรกจ ผานโซนตางๆ

Samut Prakan Province together with the Provincial

Administration Organization jointly launched tourism

promotional booth under the theme “Pleasant Visitation

to Samut Prakan” at Thailand Tourism Festival 2014 on a

grand scale. The event was held during 4-8 June, 2014 at

Challenger Hall 1, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. The official

inauguration was held on 4 June, 2014 with Mr. Akkrawat

Asavahame, Samut Prakan PAO Vice President, gave welcome

speech while Mr. Tavorn Wattanakul, Samut Prakan Tourism

and Sports Chief, delivered the purpose statement and

Mr. Kanit Iamrahong, Samut Prakan Governor, chaired the

event and delivered the opening remark highlighting that

Samut Prakan would like to present its quality produces

and to promote tourism attractions in Samut Prakan to the

tourism business sectors through the spectacular mock-up

zones which were attractively inviting.

แนะน�าหอชมเมองฯ “The Pride of Samut Prakan - The Pride of

Southeast Asia” พรอมนทรรศการแนะน�าสถานททองเทยวยอด

นยมของจงหวด สวนใครชอบดงานจกสาน กมการสาธตศลปหตถกรรม

งานฝมอทองถน ใหไดดกนเสรจสรรพ หรอถาอยากชมการแสดง

สะทอนวฒนธรรม กมใหชมในงาน เชน การแสดงสะบา การละเลน

ของชนชาตมอญเกาแก การจ�าลองประเพณรบบว ประเพณหนงเดยว

ในโลก แหงเดยวในไทย ขบวนแหหงสธงตะขาบ และขบวน

เมองของชาวปากน�ามาตงแตอดต ทสามารถบงบอกถงวฒนธรรม

อนหลากหลาย และความรงเรองพทธศาสนาของชาวปากน�าไดเปน

อยางด

เปนโซนจ�าหนายสนคา OTOP ชมชน ในบรรยากาศตลาดน�า

โบราณจ�าลอง อนสามารถสะทอนวถชวตรมน�าไดเปนอยางด ทงยง

มสนคาจดจ�าหนายใหเลอกซอกนอยางหลากหลาย อาท ชาลวรรณ

ปลาสลดแดดเดยวบางพล, น�าปลาหวานญาณศา, เจหยรกษสมนไพร

ตลาดคลองสวน 100 ป, นวดสมนไพรบางน�าผง, เซรมน�าบษย, บญศร

ขนมชนตลาดน�าบางพลใหญ, โพธทองหมกรอบสามรส, น�าพรกกงเสยบ,

สมนไพรลกลววบางพล ฯลฯ ซงลวนเปนสนคาขนชอประจ�าจงหวด

ทมคณภาพระดบ 5 ดาว การนตความอรอย

Exhibition Zone “Pleasant Visitation to Samut Prakan”

For those who would like to know about history of Samut

Prakan, they should visit this zone where video presentation

introducing Samut Prakan Tower which is considered

“The Pride of Smut Prakan - The Pride of Southeast Asia”,

including the exhibition introducing tourism attractions in

Samut Prakan. For those who love basketry, there were

demonstrations of local handicrafts. Or, if you prefer the

cultural shows, there were also available such as Saba game

- the ancient Mon game, set up of ‘Rub Bua’ (Receiving

Lotus Flowers) the only one festival in the world and in

Thailand, Swan and Centipede Banner Procession and the

elegant Phra Pradaeng Songkran Festival Procession.

Phra Samut Chedi Replica Zone A replica of Phra Samut Chedi, symbol of Samut Prakan,

was set up for visitors to pay homage and to admire the

beauty of Phra Chedi closely. Phra Samut Chedi has been

invaluable pagoda of Samut Prakan since the old days.

It stands as a living historical reference for diverse cultures and

the prosperity of Buddhism in Paknam.

Ancient Floating Market ZoneIn this zone, OTOP products were on sale in the ancient

floating market atmosphere which clearly reflected the way

of life along the river. Many famous local products were on

sale such as sun-dried gourami fishes from Chaleewan in

Bang Phli, Yanisa Fruit Dips, Herbs from Sister Yee in

Klong Suan Centennary Market, Bang Nam Pheung Herbal

Massage, Serum Numboot, Boonsri Thai Desserts from Bang

Phli Yai Floating Market, Phothong Savoury Crispy Noodle,

Crispy shrimp in chilli dip, Laklyville Herbs from Bang Phli etc.

All products are guaranteed 5 star products of the province.

It can be said that visiting this festival is like taking a tour

around Samut Prakan because Samut Prakan PAO brought all the

good and famous things of Paknam to exhibit in this festival that

visitors would enjoy visiting this festival.

ชวงสายๆ ของวน หลงจากไดรบค�ายนยนจากเจาของสวนใหเขามาในพนทได พวกเรากไมรอชารบเดนทางจากกรงเทพฯ เขาไปในสวนมะพราว

ทนท แตดเหมอนวาบรรยากาศของทนจะสรางรอยยมใหกบผมาเยอนไดไมนอย ดวยถนนหนทางทเตมไปดวยรมเงาของตนมะพราว ทอดยาวหลาย

กโลเมตรจนถงสวนของลงพงษศกด แถวเถอน บคคลทเรานดแนะทางโทรศพทไวนนเอง

Late in the morning after receiving phone call from the coconut plantation owner confirming our visiting

appointment, we could not wait to make a trip out of Bangkok. It seemed that the atmosphere there could

create smiles on all faces with pleasant drive along kilometers of shading coconut groves until reaching

Uncle Pongsak Taewtuen whom we had made prior appointment on the phone.

พวกเราเดนชมสวนมะพราวอยางเปนกนเอง

พรอมกบเลาถงทมาทไปวา แตเดมพนทตรงน

เมอ 30 ปกอนเคยเปนสวนมะมวง แตพอตน

มะมวงหมดอายลง จงหนมาปลกตนมะพราวแทน

เสมอนเปนการปลกพชหมนเวยนแบบผสมผสาน

เพอปรบหนาดนไปในตว ท�าให ในพนท 5 ไร

นอกจากจะมตนมะพราวกวา 400 ตนแลว ยง

ปลกตนไมชนดอนๆ แทรกเปนจ�านวนมาก ทง

กระทอน มะนาว และพชผกสวนครว ไวทาน

เองในครวเรอน

ดวยวธคดงายๆ หลายอยางของคณลง

ท�าใหพวกเราองกนอยหลายครง เพราะสวน

แหงนไมไดปลกมะพราวไวขายเปนผลเหมอน

สวนทวไป แตปลกเพอเอาน�าจากจนมะพราวมา

ท�าน�าตาล ซงสามารถท�าเงนไดมากกวาขายเปน

ผลหลายเทา ราคาจ�าหนายตกกโลกรมละ 40

บาท วนหนงผลตไดกวา 30 กโลกรม มลกคา

เขามาซอถงในสวนไมตองออกไปเรขายใหเหนอย

และทส�าคญคณลงแอบกระซบกบพวกเราวาขาย

หมดทกวน ไมมเหลอคางไวแมแตกอนเดยว

Uncle Pongsak took the role of friendly

tour guide taking us visiting his coconut

plantation. He told us that formerly this piece

of 30-rai land was mango orchard. But,

when the mango trees reached their ages,

he then turned to plant coconuts instead.

It is integrated crops plantation that could

help revitalizing the soil. In the area of 5 rais,

he has more than 400 coconut trees and

other trees in between such as santol, lime

and garden vegetables for household con

sumption.

His simple thinking made us dumb

struck several times because his plantation

does not cultivate coconut trees for sale of

its fruits as other orchards. But, he turns

nectar from coconut blossoms for sugar

making which can earn him more money than

selling its fruits. The selling price is 40 Baht

per kilogram. In a day, his coconut plantation

can produce more than 30 kilograms of sugar

and the buyers come to pick up from his

plantation. He needs not go out selling his

produces. The most important of all that he

secretly told us is that he sells his produces

day by day. At the end of the day, not a single

lump left!

อารมณดพรอมท�าการสาธตโดยการปนขนไป

บนยอดมะพราว ชใหเราดชดๆ วาสวนไหนงวง

สวนไหนจน สวนไหนคอขวดพลาสตกทผกไว

รองน�าตาล จากนนเดนน�าหนาพาพวกเราเขาไป

ในเพงสงกะสเลกๆ ซงมปานตยา แถวเถอน

ภรรยาของคณลงก�าลงกวนน�าตาลในกระทะ

ใบใหญอยางขะมกเขมนใหชมแบบสดๆ กน

อกดวย

ตนมะพราวทเหนทงหมดในสวนของคณลง

คอพนธ ตาลหมอ ซงเปนพนธ ทองถนของ

บางกะเจา ทคณลงเพาะเองกบมอ พนธนจะ

มความพเศษกวาพนธอนๆ ตรงทสามารถให

น�าตาลได ในปรมาณมาก นยมปลกกนแถว

สมทรปราการ สมทรสาคร และสมทรสงคราม

ใหน�าตาลไดถงวนละลตรครงตองวงเลยทเดยว

นอกจากจะใหน�าตาลไดมากกวาพนธอนๆ แลว

ถาปลอยใหตดผลกจะไดลกมะพราวทรสชาต

หอมหวานอรอยไมเปนรองใคร

สวนในเรองของการดแลรกษาสวนมะพราว

กมขนตอนไมยงยาก เพยงดแลใหตนมะพราว

คอไมรก และคอยลอกเลนจากรองสวนใสทโคน

ตนปละครง แคนตนมะพราวกเจรญงอกงามให

ผลผลตด สวนเรองศตรพชทเปนภยรายแรง

ทสด จะมดวงไฟ แมลงด�าหนาม ทมกจะกดกน

บรเวณใบ พอกนนานวนเขากท�าใหตนมะพราว

ตายลงในทสด ซงชาวสวนสามารถปราบเจา

แมลงเหลานได โดยการปลอยแมลงแตนเบยน

ใหไปกนไขของแมลง เปนการก�าจดศตรพชแบบ

แมลงกนแมลง นบเปนภมปญญาทองถนทนา

เอาแบบอยาง ทงไมท�าลายระบบนเวศ และไม

ท�ารายผบรโภคอยางเราๆ ดวย

หลงจากนนพวกเราพากนเดนชมสวน

ไปเรอยๆ ผานตนมะพราวหลากขนาด ผาน

รองสวนรองเลกๆ ผานแปลงผกสวนครว

ในบรรยากาศอนรมรน สามารถสรางความ

ลงกเดนมาสงถงหนาสวนพรอมกลาวค�าร�าลา

ดวยมตรไมตร สรางรอยยมอบอนใหกบพวก

เรากอนเดนทางออกจากสวนมะพราวอนรมรน

Talking about making of sugar, Uncle

Pongsak smiled heartily showing how to

make sugar from the start by climbing up

the coconut tree. He showed us which

part is the spadix of coconut palm, which

is the blossom or which is the plastic bottle

to receive the dripping nectar. He then led

us to a small corrugated hut where Auntie

Nittaya Taewtuen, his wife, was vigorously

stirring coconut palm nectar in a large wok.

All of coconut trees in Uncle Pongsak’s

plantation are the native species of Bang

Krachao that he nurtures the seedlings by

himself. The specialty of this species is

that it yields nectar in great quantity and is

popularly grown in Samut Prakan, WSamut

Sakorn and Samut Songkram. A spadix of

coconut palm can yield almost one and a

half litre a day. Apart from yielding more

nectar than other species, if it were left to

bear the fruits, it fruits taste second to none.

Taking care of the coconut plantation

is not complicated. Gardeners need only to

get rid of the dried leaf stalks. Once a year

dredge the mud from the ditch to cover the

bottom of the trees. These will make the

coconut trees grow healthily with high

yield. The most harmful plant pests are

blister beetles and two-colored coconut

leaf beetles that damage the leaves and

finally make the trees die. Gardeners can

contain these plant pests by letting parasitic

wasps into the plantation to eat up eggs of

harmful pests. This is a local wisdom that

uses insects to eat harmful plant pests. It

does not spoil ecological system and also

is not harmful to consumers like us.

Later on, we strolled around the

plantation passing coconut trees of various

sizes, small ditches, and garden vegetable

plots in the atmosphere that is very relaxing.

Not long, Uncle Pongsak saw us off at the

entrance and said farewell with friendliness.

We left the pleasant coconut plantation

with a warm smile on our face.

Engraving WorksBanana Leaf Sheath Cutting

The art of banana leaf sheath cutting or carving is the art

of using double-edged knife cutting through banana leaf

sheath making the desired traditional Thai art designs. It is

considered as one of traditional Thai arts that had its origin

in the royal palace known as ‘Chang Sip Mu’ (ten divisions

of traditional crafts) in carving of soft materials which in the

past carving utensils as a tribute to the kings, members of

royal family, and senior monks or as an offering to sacred

Buddha images was an important court duty. This job

would also include carving banana leaf sheath together with

fresh flower to decorate royal crematorium and temporary

royal pavilion for the royal cremation ceremony. The art of

carving banana stalk had been passed on from generation

to generation that it became another traditional art from

courtiers.

Subsequently, the art of carving banana stalk spread

from courtiers to layman. From an Ayutthaya archive, there

was a note that Thai people started carving banana leaf

sheath into exquisite designs long time ago to decorate

temporary buildings relating to religious rites be it palanquins,

altars, pulpits or funeral pyre. Even in Thai literature ‘Khun

Chang-Khun Paen’ (National Library Version) there was a

part mentioning the importance of beautiful banana leaf

sheath carvings for the funeral rite of Wantong (leading

female figure). Not only that, banana trees, leaves and

fruits also have been related as required materials in many

merit making rituals such as ‘Kathin’ robe offering, ‘Maha

Chatika” Grand Sermon, wedding procession, Loy Kratong,

topknot shaving ceremony where banana trees play an important

role in the decoration.

Uncle Boontaem Petchpradit or shortly called ‘Uncle

Taem’, the local wisdom guru of Phra Pradaeng District,

Samut Prakan who still maintains practicing the original banana

leaf sheath carving, recounted that firstly it is used to decorate

the venue for the merit making activities both propitious or

unpropitious ceremonies with elaborate work of traditional

Thai art. Secondly, it is used to depict the social status

of the people i.e. if it is for the members of royal family,

the designs will be more elaborate than that for a layman.

And, lastly it is used as firewood for the cremation which

normally consumes a large number of firewood. Therefore,

banana trees which are cheap and plentiful are used in

making beautiful traditional Thai designs to decorate the temporary

crematory and also as fuel instead of firewood.

จะคงมอยกเพยงชางหลวงและชางสบหมเทานน

การแทงหยวกกลวยนน เรมจากเลอกตนกลวยตานสาวทยงไมตง

ทอง เพราะจะใหล�าตนตรง ไมมเสนใยเวลาตด ผวเรยบ ไมเปราะหรอ

แตกงาย และมล�าตนอมน�าซงจะชวยใหไมเหยวแหงงาย จากนนตด

หยวกกลวยตงทงไวราว 2 วน เพอใหน�ายางไหลออก กอนน�ามาตดเปน

ทอนๆ ยาวประมาณ 40 เซนตเมตร ซงในการตดนนจะตองหมนตนกลวย

เขาหาตวเสมอ เพอไมใหกาบกลวยแตกออกจากกน แลวจงลอกกาบท

ละชน โดยจะตองสอดนวมอเขาไปกลางกาบกลวย กอนดนล�ากลวยไป

ขางหนาเชนเดยวกบการตด วธนจะชวยใหไดกาบทสวยงาม ไมแตกหก”

ในขนตอนการแทงหยวกนนตองอาศยประสบการณ ความช�านาญ

และความอดทนในการฝกฝนสง จงนบเปนเหตผลหนงทคนรนใหมให

ความส�าคญนอยลงเรอยๆ ซงการแทงลายนนจะไมมการรางเสนลงบน

กาบกลวยกอน เพราะจะท�าใหกาบกลวยเปนรอยช�า ไมสวยงาม การกรด

ใบมดตองรวดเรวเพอใหลายเกดความตอเนอง แตหากไมระวงคมมด

อาจจะท�าใหลวดลายขาดออกจากกน ส�าหรบลวดลายทแทงในแตละ

งานกมความเฉพาะแตกตางกนไป โดยลวดลายทถอเปนพนฐานของงาน

ศลปะจากหยวกกลวยไทยและไดรบความนยมในหมชาวบาน คอ ลาย

กระจงและลายกระหนก ทลวนมลวดลายพนฐานมาจากธรรมชาตรอบตว

ปจจบน ในหลายพนทของจงหวดสมทรปราการ ยงคงมการ

อนรกษและใหความส�าคญกบศลปกรรมแบบไทยประเพณ เฉกเชน

การแทงหยวกหรอจ�าหลกหยวกกลวยนอย โดยเฉพาะในงานศพจะม

การประดบตกแตงสถานพธอยางงดงาม ดวยลวดลายวจตรศลปจาก

เครองไม เครองสดและหยวกกลวย นบเปนภมปญญาชนสงทถายทอด

มาสชาวบานรนแลวรนเลา จนเกดเปนภมปญญาทองถนซงมเอกลกษณ

แตกตางกนไป ในอนาคตศลปะภณฑชนนจะยงคงมอยใหลกหลานเรา

ไดเหนหรอไม กคงไมใชเพราะใครนอกจากตวเราเองทจะรวมมอกน

สบทอดและสนบสนนใหคงอยสบไป..

Uncle Taem further added that formerly in Samut Prakan there were

many skilled carvers. When he was young, he remembered seeing those

carvers at work carving banana leaf sheath for the funeral, ‘Kathin’ robe

offerings or other traditional merit making activities. The designs differed

depending on the preference in each location. There was no fixed design

which is different from the works for the royal ceremonies that the designs

are fixed. However, the popularity dwindled with the passing time. At

present, people prefer to order fresh flower bouquets to decorate the

ceremonial sites instead of using carved banana leaf sheaths because

it is more convenient, faster and cheaper. The most important reason

is that local banana leaf sheath carvers are less in number nowadays.

Those who remain practicing the banana leaf sheath carving are only

the royal artisans and officials ‘Chang Sip Mu’.

“To cut the banana leaf sheath, we must start from selecting

young banana trees that not yet bare fruits because they will have

upright stems, no fiber and the surface is smooth not brittle or easily

broken. The trunk is hygroscopic so that it will not easily wither. The

banana trees will be cut and left stand for two days to let the banana

resin released. After leaving the banana trees for two days, they will be

cut into pieces each at about 40 cm. long. The carver has to cut the

banana trees by rolling the stem inward so that the leaf sheaths will

still be intact. Later, the leaf sheaths will be peeled off one by one by

placing the finger into the middle part of the sheath then push the stem

forward. By applying this cutting technique, we will have nice sheaths,

no breakage.”

To master the art of cutting banana leaf sheath requires experience,

expertise and patience in training. Therefore, it is the main reason

that new generation gives less and less interest in learning. In cutting

banana leaf sheath the carver will not draft the design because it will

somehow cause damage to the banana leaf sheath. The cutting stroke

must be precise and continuous. But, if not being careful, the blade

could unintentionally cut the designs at the wrong points. The designs

considered as the standard in banana leaf sheath cutting are traditional

Thai design such as ‘Krajang’ (decorative design resembling leaf with

serrated edge) and ‘Kanok’ (decorative design based on triangle form).

Presently, many areas in Samut Prakan has embarked on preserving

Thai arts and culture such as the art of cutting banana leaf sheath particularly

in the preparation of a funeral where the ceremonial site will be beautifully

decorated with elaborate traditional designs in wood carving, fresh

flower arrangement and banana leaf sheath cutting. The wisdom in

higher traditional arts have been passed among villagers from generation

to generation. We never know if this traditional art will still exist in the

future. It has to be us, in our generation, who should help carrying on

and supporting this wisdom for the future.

At 13.13 hours the Royal Boat left

from the front of Phra Samut Chedi,

pagoda in the river, and cruised along

until reaching the estuary where

seagulls were in large number. Some flocked

on the water close to the boat, only about 3-4

sen (120-160 m.). It was a pleasant sight for

King Chulalongkorn.

During the trip he saw that fish was plentiful

therefore seagulls were in large number too.

Truthfully, seagulls were beautiful, even more

beautiful than egrets.

Seeing seagulls made him recalled an old

poetical composition about

seagulls comparing seagulls

with beautiful girls.

Recalling of such a romantic poem,

he then composed his own verse in rhyme

comparing seagulls with his loved one.

Besides, he also composed another verse

in rhyme on the same theme emphasizing

on the same leading alphabet in each line.

from annals show to new verity that seagull

at Bang Pu was in the old day, not recent date.

บางป ใหเปนศนยกลางการอนรกษทรพยากรธรรมชาตและสงแวดลอม จงเกด

เปนแหลงเรยนรระบบนเวศของเยาวชน ผานเสนทางศกษาธรรมชาต ความ

ยาวกวา 2 กโลเมตร จากผนปาดานหนาสทองทะเลดานหลง ทมากพรอม

ดวยทรพยากรอนนาศกษา สวนจะมากขนาดไหน อยารอชา..ตามเรามาเลย

This Mangrove Forest Conservation Center covers the area of

338 rais (135.2 acres) is under the joint supervision of Quartermaster

Department Royal Thai Army and Foundation for Environmental Education

for Sustainable Development (Thailand) or FEED with the support

from Toyota Motor Thailand Co.,+Ltd. that jointly develop Bang Pu

Seaside Resort to be the center for natural resources and environmental

conservation. Therefore, the nature educational trail has been set

for the youth to learn about eco-system. The trail is over 2 km. long

starting from the mangrove forest in the front to the sea in the back.

Let’s start moving on the trail to see how many interesting natural

resources are there for us to study.

กรอย ซงเปนแหลงอาศยของนกนานาพนธ ทงนกประจ�าถน

และนกอพยพ อาท นกนางนวลธรรมดา นกปากแอนหางด�า

นกตนเทยน นกกนเปยว นกยาง และนกกากบว ถาเดนลก

เขาไปอกจะเจอกลมไมพมใบหลากสชวนสะดดตา ไมวาจะ

เปนตนชะครามทสามารถน�ามาประกอบอาหารไดหลากหลาย

เมน อาท แกงสม สมต�า ไขเจยว แถมยงมสรรพคณชวยลด

น�าตาลในเสนเลอดไดดวย ถดจากนนจะเจอคลองน�ากรอย

เลกๆ ทเตมไปดวยสตวน�าหลากชนด ทงปลาตน ปลากระจง

ปลาจมพรวด ปกามดาบ และปแสมกามชมพ

จากนนเดนเขาสสะพานไมยกระดบ เปนเสนทางทตด

เขาไปในปาแสมทะเล สดปลายทางจะมหอชมวว ความสง

กวา 9 เมตร สามารถชมววทวทศนของปาแสมทะเลไดแบบ

พาโนรามา แถมดวยสะพานแขวนทมความยาว 120 เมตร

ทอดยาวจากปาสทะเลอาวไทย เปนอกหนงจดทนกทองเทยว

นยมแวะมาเกบภาพความประทบใจ

ปดทายดวยการเดนลดเลาะรมทะเล ชมพนทหาดเลน

และปาชายเลนฟนฟ ทปจจบนบางจดแทบจะมองไมออกวาน

คอปาชายเลนปลกใหม ซงอกไมนานจดนนาจะเปนปาชายเลน

สเขยวอนอดมสมบรณ ใหสตวทะเลหลากชนด ไดใชเปนแหลง

พกอาศย และทส�าคญจะไดเพมพนทสเขยว ใหนกทองเทยว

และเยาวชนอยางเราๆ ไดมพนทเรยนรมากขนอกดวย

The trail is designed in a circular route. Starting

from the left hand side, visitors will see more than 65

species of plants. The most common species is Avicennia

alba which is about 70% of all plants in the area. Other

species of plant found along the way include Avicennia

marina, cork tree, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora

apiculata, Portia tree, Lumnitzera racemosa Willd, Hibiscus

tilliaceus, Sueda maritime, Sesuvium portulacastrum, etc.

A little further is the bird watching tower which

greatly attracts visitors. Along the trail, there are altogether

4 bird watching towers for close study about birds in the

brackish water area where is the habitat of many birds

both native and migratory birds such as Brown-headed

Gull, Eastern Black-tailed Godwit, Black-winged Stilt,

Collared Kingfisher, Egret, Painted Stork. Walking deeper

inside, visitors will see shrubs of diverse colors foliage

be it Sueda maritime that we can use as an ingredient

to cook delicious menu i.e. spicy and sour soup, spicy

salad or Thai style omelet. It also has medicinal property

that can help reducing sugar level in the blood system.

A little further, there is a small brackish water canal

with variety of aquatic animals i.e. Mudskipper, Giant

Mudskipper, Blue-spotted Mudskipper, Fiddler Crab and

Pink-fingered Vinegar Crab.

Then we proceed to the elevated walkway cutting

through the Avicennia marina forest and at the end

of the walkway there is an observatory tower with the

height over 9 m. that visitors can enjoy the view of Avicennia

marina forest in 360 degree. Additionally, there is a 120

m. suspension bridge from the mangrove forest to the

Gulf of Thailand. It is another photograph taking points

that visitors very much enjoy.

We finish the tour with the walk along the shore

to see mud flat and rehabilitated mangrove forest that

is virtually indistinguishable from the original one. Not

for long, this area will become fertile mangrove forest

where diverse marine animals can take refuge. Another

important point is that it will help increasing green area

for visitors and youth alike to further study.

ส องนกนางนวล ถอเปนไฮไลตหลกของสถานตากอากาศบางป เพราะ

ทนขนชอวาเปนแหลงทพบ “นกนางนวลธรรมดา” มากทสดในไทย

และเยอะทสดในโลกอกดวย ซงในชวงฤดหนาวของแตละป นกทอง

เทยวจะแนนเปนพเศษ เพราะเจานกชนดนจะบนมาอวดโฉมใหไดชม

กนเปนฝงใหญ สรางความตนตาตนใจใหกบนกทองเทยวไดไมนอย

และถอวาทนเปนสวรรคของนกสองนกเลยกวาได

Watching seagulls is considered the major highlight of Bang

Pu Seaside Resort because here is the most common site

where brown-headed gull are found in great number in Thailand

and also in the world. During winter time each year, tourists will

come here in a large number to watch seagulls that come in huge

flocks. It is a spectacular sight for tourists and probably considered

as the heaven for bird watchers.

Brown-headed gull is a medium size gull with white body

except the neck and shoulder that are in light grey. This breed

of bird migrates southward in winter over 3,000 miles from the

plateau in Central Asia in Tibetan area to warmer seaside. They

can be found in both Andaman Coast and the Gulf of Thailand.

The largest migration flocks in Bang Pu.

Apart from brown-headed gulls, there are other breeds of

gull such as Common Black-headed Gull, Slender-billed Gull, Heuglin’s

Gull, Whiskered Ternincluding more than 240 breeds of other shore

birds in mangrove forest i.e. Common Greenshank, Eastern Black-tailed

Godwit, Pacific Golden Plover, Eurasian Curlew, Egret, Painted

Stork, Little Egret, Turnstone, Common Redshank, Black-winged

Stilt, Common Sandpiper, Lesser Sand Plover, Curlew Sandpiper,

Little Cormorant, Indian Cormorant, Common Kingfisher, Collared

Kingfisher, White-throated Kingfisher, etc. It is justified to say that

here is the heaven for bird watchers.

The reason why such a large number of birds take refuge

in Bang Pu is that the area is rich in food sources both natural

foods such as small aquatic animals in the mangrove forest and

food that fed by people. The feeding for birds here differs from

elsewhere because people prefer to feed birds with crispy pork

fat bits. Many people may wonder why it is crispy pork fat bits

for bird feeding here, the reason is that in the past the restaurant

at the end of Sukta Jetty had crispy pork fat bits in abundant and

sometimes seagulls sneaked in to eat crispy pork fat bits in the

kitchen. Hence, vendors struck the idea to sell the crispy pork fat

bits in small plastic bags for bird feeding. Seagulls like eating

crispy pork fat bits because they lost a lot of energy in traveling

from Tibet to Bang Pu. Thus, oily food crispy pork fat bits can

replenish their energy.

During the bird watching season from October-May every

year, at Bang Pu Seaside Resort is crowded with visitors to watch

the natural beauty of these birds. Birds always put a smile on

every visitor’s face while taking photographs of impressive moments.

World of Marine Benthos…The Colors of

Mangrove Forestโลกของสตวหนาดน..สสนปาชายเลน

Fertile ecological system of mangrove forest is the habitat of

many marine benthos such as Mudskipper, Giant Mudskipper,

Blue-spotted Mudskipper, Snapping Shrimp, Fiddler Crab, Horseshoe

Crab, which offers another colorful experience that visitors should

not miss. While being here, take a time looking around in the mud

flat, you will find mudskippers of various sizes crawling in the mud

as if they had walking feet that is the reason why their given Thai

name is ‘Pla Teen’. The sight could easily make us smile.

Bang Pu Mangrove Forest has more than 67

Snapping Shrimp, Assiminea sp, Cerithidea, Fiddler

Crab, Pink-fingered Vinegar Crab, Horseshoe Crab,

etc. Mudskipper is the most colorful and in abundant

that wherever you look at in the mud flat you can

easily see them.

Besides Mudskipper, Snapping Shrimp is another

interesting species as well. If you want to know how

resonant it can snap, take a quiet walk into mangrove

forest and carefully listen you will certainly hear the

mysterious sound of this shrimp. We say mysterious

sound because this kind of shrimp is very small and

hides in the mud that you can not see them. We could

hear only the sound they make.

Many people may wonder why at Bang Pu they

call aquatic animals in the mangrove forest ‘marine benthos’.

The response we got from the official is that ‘marine

benthos’ means invertebrate animals. Aha, now we

understand. Here is the home to those diverse species

of marine benthos.

Whenever you visit Bang Pu, take a little time to

see marine benthos and you will realize how colorful

they are to the mangrove forest.

การพลกฟนผนปาอยางหนก ในรอบ 10 ปทผานมา ซงมการปลกปาชาย

เลนเพมขนเรอยๆ จนปจจบนนปลกไปแลว กวา 400,000 ตน ในพนท

200 ไร จงไมแปลกนกเวลาถามคนมาทนนอกจากดนกแลว จะตอบวา

Apart from reducing effect of coastal erosion, another benefit

is being garbage collecting area. Bang Pu is on the Chao

Phraya River where the waste from urban settlements will flow

to the sea. At high tide, the waste will flow into the mangrove

forest. Thus, Bang Pu Mangrove Forest seems to be a big garbage

dump. We ask the responsible official with surprise that such

a huge amount of garbage is good or not. His answer is that

it is good for the surrounding nature. Let say if 100 plastic

bags flow into the sea, aquatic animals would eat them. Many

species of sea turtles die of eating plastic bags because they

thought it was jelly fish. Therefore, this is another benefit of this

mangrove forest.

Seeing the many benefits of mangrove forest, if you would

like to reforest mangrove you can contact Bang Pu Nature

Education Centre. Don’t forget to make prior appointment via

telephone so that the officials can arrange for lecturer and the

area for reforestation in advance. Normally, the groups coming

for mangrove reforestation are corporate groups and students

that the schools arrange for learning outside the classroom activities.

For visitors like us, they are willing to welcome as well.

For those who may wonder whether the huge amount of

trees planted under the reforestation program could survive, the

official responds that more than half could survive. The official

reconfirms that here they do not plant and pull out that would

make visitors feel bad. The reason that some do not survive is

because they are planted the wrong way, or when planted in a

large number the attention will be diminished in the latter part.

Now we know the reason, next time we come for reforestation,

For the preparation, if you intentionally want to join reforestation

program, you should make prior appointment with the officials.

Don’t forget to bring casual wears, shorts, sun block cream and

sunglass. Another thing that you should not forget is boots. If

Mangrove Reforestation is one of the popular green activities

at Bang Pu Seaside Resort. In the past this area used to be

degraded mangrove forest. Therefore in the past decade, reforestation

program has been launched where more and more mangrove

forest area has gradually increased. At present, there are about

400,000 mangrove trees planted in the area of 200 rais (80 acres).

Thus, it is not a surprise that apart from bird watching, people

visiting Bang Pu always say that they come for mangrove reforestation

as well. We often see in the media the mangrove reforestation

activities at Bang Pu many times a year, be it in the websites,

newspapers or magazines. We would like to invite you to join the

mangrove reforestation, the activity that should not be missed.

The reforestation at Bang Pu prefers to plant Avicennia Alba

along the muddy beach because this kind of plant could help reducing

the coastal erosion and it is also the food source for young aquatic

offers a large selection of yummy seafood such as par-boiled

seafood, snapper with spicy and tangy sauce, fried rice with

crabmeat, prawns and vermicelli in aromatic sauce, grilled

prawns, stir-fried prawns with asparagus, fish maw in thick

soup, spicy garlic salad or spicy three kinds of mushroom

Taking a stroll on Sukta Jetty to enjoy the pleasant view

Jetty is a 500 m. long concrete jetty jutting into the blue

Klong Sala Daeng Community is Unique identity and Simplicity of the Fisherman Way of Life

Wher fishery is their main Occupation, same as their ancestors.

Out trip started at the entrance to Soi Tesaban Bang

Pu 21 which is leading to Klong Sala Daeng Community. We

agreed to ride the bicycles along the narrow paved way linking

the outside civilization to the community. We continued riding

leisurely as the weather was pleasant until we arrived at our

destination without tiredness.

Upon entering the ‘Klong Sala Daeng Community”, we

could feel the touch of simple rural life which is charming with

authentic Thai essence. Most of the villagers live on fishery.

Every morning, fishing boats that left for the night round fishing

gradually return ashore taking in their catches be it fishes,

prawns and crabs before selling to vendors who come to buy

the catches for reselling in Paknam Market. We took a stroll before

stopping to buy fresh and cheap seafood from the fishermen.

After walking for awhile, the sun got higher we changed

our mode of transportation to take a boat cruising in the canal

admiring the fertility of the mangrove forest that serves as the

home for birds and diverse marine creatures. On the way

we stopped at Royal Thai Naval Dockyard Department to pay

homage to the statue of King Rama before heading to the open

sea to visit Wat Khun Samut Chine. Along the way we noticed

row of electricity posts in the middle of the water which is an

exotic sight created by the effect of erosion by sea water that

took away the land. Before heading back to Klong Sala Daeng

Village, we visited ‘shrimp nursery’ and ‘crab nursery’, the main

occupations of villagers at Phra Samut Chedi. The big red sun

was about to set from the golden sky, it was the signal for us

to end our fun filled day.

For those who love to travel and have fun with unconventional

knowledge outside textbooks, we would like to introduce the story

of “Klong Saotong” (Flag Pole Canal), a fishermen community in

Bang Pu Mai Sub-district where they apply tourism to the preservation

of community way of life in every aspect be it in culture, local

wisdom, community ecological system and environment. The format

of learning is by self learning at “Uncle Teaching Descendants

School Outside the Shell” which is another famous and outstanding

attraction that is second to none in Samut Prakan.

With eagerness and enthusiasm, we did not hesitate to take

the trip that we arrived at Bang Saotong Community very early in

the morning. Mr. Buncherd Udomsamuthirun, or Uncle Manoke

of the children, the founder of the school was waiting to take

us to visit the classroom built from discarded materials around

the community such as old boats, planks floated in the water

including old student desks. Theoretical knowledge on local

knowledge, local fishing, ecology of mud flat and environmental

conservation is taught in this classroom.

After the class, Uncle Manoke took us on a boat trip for practical

learning surveying the fertile mangrove forest which is the important

food source for aquatic animals to make us understand better

the relationship between aquatic animals and mangrove forest.

It is a major variable to indicate the increase or decrease in

quantity of prawns, shellfish, crabs and fishes that we consume

nowadays. It also teaches new generation like us to cherish and

preserve natural resources to be available forever.

As we mentioned above, the teaching here is by self learning,

when we finished mangrove forest touring, we had to find our own

food fromthe Gulf of Thailand, the largest supermarket, by using

handmade utensils. We took our catches back for our dinner

cooking which we enjoyed eating together in a casual atmosphere.

Our visit to Saotong Community makes us aware that sometime

money is not the most important factor for being happy. The attentie

knowledge transition by villagers in the community and the food

we had today do not have any relations to money at all. This

weekend if you want to make a trip that is knowledgeable plus

many fun filled activities, why not stop by to experience Bang Pu

fisherman way of life… and you will be surprised.

Late Sunday morning the weather was fine, the road was not

congested, our team started our tour by the bayside. Our

starting point was at Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal. There are

3 alternative routes to get there : if you come from Bangna-Trad

Highway, head for Bang Chalong Subdistrict, Samut Prakan.

A little distance pass Huachiew University take the U-turn bridge

and notice the signboard on the roadside you will see the

entrance to Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal. The second route is

from Theparak intersection, head for Bang Pla Sub-district. After

passing the entrance to Wat Bang Phli Yai for a while you will

see Soi Bang Pla 69, there is our starting point. And the last

alternative is from Srinakarin Road heading for Faifah Intersection

in Samut Prakan then turn left to Old Sukhumvit Road. When

reaching Soi Tesaban Bang Pu 126 you will see Suvarnabhumi

irrigation canal on the left.

เราในวนนคอ คลองสงน�าสวรรณภม ถาใครเปนสงหนกปนแถว

ละแวกนนคงรจกกนด เปนจดนดพบของนกปนหลากหลายกลมท

ชนชอบการปนจกรยานชมววในชวงเยน คลองสงน�าสวรรณภมเปนคลอง

ทอดยาวรบน�าจากพนทรอบสนามบนสวรรณภม เพอระบายน�า

ปองกนการเกดน�าทวม ถาเรายงจ�ากนไดตอนเกดน�าทวมครงใหญ

ป 2554 คลองสงน�าสวรรณภมถอวามหนาทหลกในการระบายน�า

ออกสอาวไทยโดยตรง ท�าใหหลายพนทรอดพนการเกดน�าทวม มจด

นาสนใจคอกอนจะปลอยน�าลงสอาวไทย เขาจะสบน�าขนไปบนทาง

คอนกรต เพอใหขามถนนสขมวทสายเกา แลวจงปลอยลงสอาวไทย

โดยตรง ถอวาเปนจดเดนและแปลกใหมทไมเคยพบเหน จนทมงาน

บางคนตางเขาใจผดคดวาเปนถนนยกระดบ เพราะเหมอนทางดวนทวไป

ขบรถมาไดสกระยะ กแวะจอดรถแชะภาพสก 1 รป เปนการ

เอาฤกษเอาชย ระหวางนนสงเกตเหนบรเวณรมคลองสงน�า มชาวบาน

รวมกลมตางหวานแหลงตาขาย และตกปลาอยางคกคก บางคนตงใจ

มาทนจดแจงจอดรถกระบะ พาลกจงหลาน ชวยกนปดกวาดเตรยมททาง

น�าเตาถานลงตงไฟชวยกนพดจนควนโขมง ระหวางรอปลาทก�าลง

ถกปลดออกจากตาขาย เหนแลวกอดยมไมได ยงชวงเสาร-อาทตย

จะคกคกเปนพเศษ บางคนมาตกปลาอยางเอาจรงเอาจง ขนอปกรณ

มาเปนกลองๆ รอก เบด และเหยอปลาแบบครบชด ดวยความสงสย

จงลองแวะลงไปถามไถ ท�าใหรวาทนมปลาชกชมมาก เพราะเปน

บรเวณตนทางกอนปลอยน�าลงสอาว โดยเฉพาะปลาสวาย ปลาบก

ทงขนาดเลกและขนาดใหญ บางเดอนมจดแขงตกปลาชงถวย จาก

หลายๆ สมาคมกนเลย

Check-in 10.30 A.M.After we started our trip soon we arrived at our starting

point i.e. Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal. Cyclists in the area know

the place very well because it is a meeting point of those who

like riding in the evening. Suvarnabhumi Irrigation Canal receives

water from around Suvarnabhumi Airport to prevent flooding.

We all recall the great flood in 2554 B.E. (2011 A.D.) The canal

played an important role in discharging the water mass directly

into the sea which helped many areas from being flooded.

An interesting point is that before discharging into the Gulf of

Thailand, the water mass will be pumped up to the concrete

waterway over the old Sukumvit road before being discharged

directly in to the Gulf. This is a new point of interest because

some of our team member thought that it is an elevated road like

other expressway.

Driving along for a while, we stopped to take a photograph.

We noticed that by the canal bank there were many people

fishing joyfully. Some of them came here intertuonally. After parking

their pickup truck, clearing the space, they set up their picnic

place with barbecue stove ready to grill their catches.

During weekend, it is more vivacious. Some of them are

enthusiastic fishermen who bring full sets of fishing gears i.e.

fishing reels, hooks, and baits. With skepticism we asked them

why they fish here and the response is that fish is in abundant

because here is the point before the water will be discharged

into the Gulf. Fishes are plentiful particularly striped catfish and

Mekong giant catfish, both small and big. In some certain month,

there will be fishing tournament championship with trophy from

many organizations.

กระซบบอกวา จะใชเฉพาะบรเวณตนน�าทมปลาชกชมมากๆ เทานน

หลงจากนงคยและล นกบการเยอปลาของบรรดานกตกปลา

มาระยะหนง บางคนเยอปลาหลายนาทจนเหนดเหนอยกวาจะน�าขน

มาได บางคนไดตวใหญหนอยรสกภมใจจนตองถายรปคเกบไวเปนท

ระลก บางคนเยอปลาอยนานเกอบไดอยรอมรอแตสดทายกลบหลด

ไปอยางหนาตาเฉย เรยกเสยงหวเราะอยางครนเครง สกพกทมงาน

กขอตวร�าลากบบรรดานกตกปลาทงหลาย เพอไปท�าภารกจของเรา

กนตอ หลงจากเราเดนทางออกจากคลองสงน�าสวรรณภม และ

เลยวเขาสถนนสขมวทสายเกาเพยงไมกอดใจ จงตดสนใจเลยวเขา

ซอยเทศบาลบางป 126 แวะรบประทานอาหารเทยงเปนการเตมพลง

If you can recall that during the past great flood, a Mekong

giant catfish weighted 62 kg. was caught here. The fishing

enthusiast told us that at present they like to fish ‘hell hook’ style

which those who are not in the fishing sport circle will be puzzled.

Actually, this fishing technique does not need waiting for fish to

eat the baits. They will tie several fishing lines of different length

with 4-5 hooks then they will reel the line in that the fishing lines

and the hooks will swivel and any fish in the area can be caught

easily. The guy secretly told us that they will use this fishing

technique only where fishes are abundant.

After chatting with the fishing enthusiasts for awhile, we

noticed that some of them were tired while some were so proud

with big catches that they could not help taking photographs as

a memento. Some of them almost got their prize of the day but

the fishes just slipped away. We said goodbye to them and left

Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal and turned into the old Sukhumvit

Road. After a short distance we decided to turn into Soi Tesaban

Bang Pu 126 for a lunch to replenish our energy.

catches, we could not help salivating. It was almost lunch time

so we stopped at The EXIT BAR & RESTAURANT on our way

when our stomach started rumbling.

The atmosphere is casual with customers in various cosy

corners. Looking around we noticed that the de’cor is simple

with vibrant colour and hidden warmth of local community way

of life. The menu choice is quite large especially fresh seafood.

The signature menu that the owner recommended

including fried sundried squid, stir-fried crab curry, deep

fried seabass with fish sauce, spicy sour soup with giant

catfish’s roes which are big, much bigger than normal fish

roe and the taste unlike other roes we used to eat, and

par-boiled cockles. We could taste the freshness of seafood

plus tasteful foods with the cooking skills of local chefs.

The seafood lovers will not be disappointed. Raw ingredients

are fresh everyday as they are bought directly from the

fishermen in the village.

For coffee lovers, there is a small coffee corner

serving espresso, cappuccino, Americano mocha, latte, etc.

The taste is pleasantly strong. While having our lunch, we

took pleasure in watching Khun Direk Umpae, the owner,

through the glass panel. He was diligently making fishing

boat and car models of various sizes for customers to

admire and buy as souvenirs. Uncle Direk told us that

should anyone want to make his own design, he can make

to order as well. Most important of all is that the price is

reasonable.

After filling up your stomach, do not forget to check-in

with the beautiful scenery by the bay to make your friends

envy via instagram. Take a walk on the jetty jutting into the

open sea to the horizon, the point where the sun set.

สายเกา ไมนานเรากผานสถานตากอากาศบางป ใครจะแวะเทยวชม

ตลาคม-มนาคม เพราะเปนฤดกาลของนกนางนวล เหนวาในแตละป

Check-in 1.30 P.M.After filling the stomach, our eye lids drooped. It was the

signal that we were ready to move on. We went on paying

homage to important Buddha images in the temples along the

bay with the atmosphere more enchanting than just making

merit. After leaving Soi Tesaban Bang Pu 126, we turned left

on the old Sukhumvit Road. It took a little time to pass Bang

Pu Seaside Resort. If you like, you can stop for watching and

feeding seagulls but we recommend that you should come

during October-March as it is the time that not less than

5,000-6,000 brown-headed gulls take refuge at Bang Pu. A short

distance after Bang Pu, we reached a small entrance to

Soi Tesaban Bang Pu 96. It’s the entrance to our first target temple.

หลงจากไหวพระเพอความเปนสรมงคลกนแลว เราลองเดน

เขาไปขางในวดจะสงเกตเหนทางเขาเลกๆ เขยนวา “จดชมวว” เปน

สะพานทอดยาวประมาณ 100 เมตร ระหวางทางจะพบกฏพระสงฆ

ตลอดทาง ดรมรนในบรรยากาศปาชายเลน สดทางมองเหนววรมอาว

สดลกตา มลมพดเยนๆ แสงแดดออนๆ ทมงานตดสนใจนงพกตรง

ศาลารมอาวรบลมใหผอนคลาย ระหวางนนนงชนชมกบสามเณรท

ก�าลงทองหนงสอธรรมะอยางขะมกเขมน พรอมกบทอดสายตาบนทก

ภาพรมอาว และมาสะดดตากบศาลาสแดงกลางอาว มสะพานทอดยาว

ออกไปอยางนาหลงใหล

พอไดความสดชนมาเตมพลง จงเรมออกเดนทางตามค�าเชอเชญ

จากความสวยงามของศาลากลางอาว ระหวางเดนเลาะรมอาว

เหนชาวบานชมชนคลองคอตอ ก�าลงชวยกนเกบอปกรณในเรอประมง

หลงจากออกหาปลาอยางเหนดเหนอยในตอนรงสาง ระหวางเดนบน

สะพานสงเกตเหนปหลากชนด ออกมาเดนเลนทกทายในยามน�าลง

สาวตาขายดกปลาเกบอยางเรยบรอย ไมนาเชอวาจะไดเหนภาพวถชวต

แบบนทบางป หลงจากเตมอมกบการยนชมวว พรอมตะโกนจนสดเสยง

เพอปลดปลอยความเหนอยลา เหมอนเมอครงยนอยบนหนาผาสงใหญ

ตะโกนพรอมเสยงกงวานทยอนกลบเหมอนเปนการเตมเตมพลงขน

มาอกครง

สกพกเราจงหนหลงเดนกลบ แตหามใจทจะไมใหหนหลงไปมอง

อกคงไมได นบวาเปนความสขเลกๆ ทเกดขนโดยไมรตว ทงอมบญ อมใจ

ทไดมาสมผสกบบรรยากาศอนสดชนรมอาวแบบใกลชด เหลอบมองด

นาฬกาทสะทอนแสงแดดระยบระยบ เปนชวงเวลาบายคลอยถงเวลา

ทตองไปสมผสอกสถานทหนงกนแลว ทมงานเรมขบรถออกจากวด

เราเลยวซายตรงไปตามถนนสกระยะ จะพบทางเขาซอยเทศบาล

บางป 60 เราเลยวซายเขาไปประมาณ 400 เมตร จะพบวดอโศการาม

ทหลายๆ คนรจกและคนเคย


Check-in 1.40 P.M.After arriving, we walked around and noticed that physically

this temple is not different from others. However, the difference

is that there is cool breeze from the back of the temple which

is the signal that the temple must be by the Gulf of Thailand.

We walked deep inside and saw the stretch of monk living quarter

in the shade of mangrove forest which makes we feel that this

temple is a part of the surrounding nature.

After strolling for awhile, we went to pay homage to the

sacred Buddha image, Luang Poh Kaow. Story has it that Luang

Poh Kaow was a plaster Buddha image aged over 100 years

that port officials found while dredging the delta and moved to

enshrine at this temple. After praying for blessing from Luang

Poh Kaow, we walked inside the temple compound and noticed

a small walkway with a signboard “View Point”. The walkway is

about 100 m. long and on the way we saw monk living quarters

in the shading mangrove forest along the way. At the end of the

walkway, we saw as far as the eyes can see the view by the bay

with soft cool breeze blowing all the time. We decided to take

a rest at the pavilion by the bay watching novices diligently

studying dharma textbooks. We cherished the view very much

and were struck by a red pavilion with long jetty in the middle of

the bay. It was very enchanting.

We continued to visit the pavilion in the middle of the bay.

While walking along the bay we saw residents of Klong Kor Tor

Community helping each other clearing fishing equipment after

their tiring fishing round early in the morning. While walking on

the walkway, we notice many kinds of crabs coming out during

the low tide.

Walking far away on the walkway, the wind became

stronger. There was no heat and what we felt is the cool and soft

breeze on our skin. Getting nearer to the pavilion in the middle

of the bay, we saw a young fisherman tidying up in his fishing

net. It is unbelievable to see such as way of life sight here, in

Bang Pu. After fully enjoying the view and shouting at the top

of our voice to release the fatigue just like when we stand at the

top of the cliff and shout loudly, the resonance seems to refill

our energy.

A short while, we decided to walk back but could not

resist looking back. It is just a small pleasure that unconsciously

occurs both from merit making and experiencing the pleasant

Check-in 3.00 P.M.This temple is a part of mangrove forest by the Gulf of

Thailand. Our first impression was that there are many trees all

over the compound which make the temple shady particularly

at the small parks and dharma ground. We were struck with an

odd shape pagoda. We asked from the people in the area and

got response that this pagoda is called “Phra Dhutangachedi”

comprises of 13 pagodas in a group as a memorial symbolizing

the 13 ascetic practices. The principal pagoda houses

Lord Buddha’s relics symbolizing Nivarna. It makes us realize

that what we see in front of us does not hold only the beauty of

construction but also moral precepts.

สบายๆ ระหวางนนทมงานไดลองเดนไปทศนยศกษาเสนทางธรรมชาต

และสงแวดลอม ตามค�าบอกเลาของพระลกวดทานหนงซงอยทางดานหลง

ของวด สามารถสมผสถงความเปนธรรมชาตทตนไมโอบลอมคลมแสงแดด

เหมอนเปนรมเงาตามตว

After we walked around the pagoda, a nun called us to go

inside. The lower level is an open space with soft breeze all the

time. People come to pay homage to the statues and relics of

the 28 masters. We requested the nun for permission to go up to

the 4th level where the view is spectacular. We can see that the

temple compound is full of trees which is very eye pleasing and

it is another view that photographers should not miss. During the

important religious days, many people will come to this temple for

merit making and candle walking around the pagoda.

After fully admiring the beauty with hidden moral precepts,

we followed the nun’s advice walked on to Viharn Suthidharmmarangsi

(Suthidhammarangsi small chapel) opposite the pagoda. Before

entering the chapel, we stopped to pay homage to the statues

of King Asoke, the Great. The chapel has 3 levels. The upper

most level is the hall for evening chanting or for meditation

practice. On the 2nd level is the museum with Buddha images,

figures of principal masters, relics of Lord Buddha and

other Buddhist Saints, ancient Buddha images in various postures.

The figure of Master Lee Dhammadharo is highly respected by

devout Buddhists. This level is considered the highlight of this

chapel. The lowest level is the public relations office of the temple

where books on dharma, history of Dhutangachedi and Buddha

images are on sale for pilgrims to take home.

The evening is the favorite time for meditation practitioners

because the cool breeze blowing softly from the Gulf of Thailand

helps them easily define their inhaling and exhaling movements.

During that time our team took a walk to visit Center of Education

on Natural Trail and Environment at the back of the compound as

recommended by one of the monks. We could feel the genuine

nature that is surrounded by trees shading away the sun light.

There are many plant species in the mangrove forest,

various kinds of birds and marine animals particularly

mudskippers and mangrove crabs. Walking to the end of the way,

we got a bayside view closely. Such an atmosphere is suitable for

taking the family on a holiday to do merit making and to visit the

natural ambience of fertile mangrove forest. After our merit making

tour, it was the time to say goodbye to this temple and embarked

on making the trip to witness the magic of Mother Nature at the

sun set on the horizon.

Check-in 4.45 P.M.We started driving out of Wat Asokaram heading towards

the old Sukhumvit Road and turned into Soi Tesaban Bang Pu

70 or 72 then went straight to the end of the Soi where there is

a restaurant by the bay. This place is named “The 2nd Bangsaen”

because the atmosphere and the beauty of nature are

comparable. By the bay, there is a stretch of road for many

kilometers where we took a walk to see the sun about to set.

If you have a bicycle you can take it for a pleasant ride here. In

the evening, we can watch the sun set on Phra Chulachomklao

Fort side. Along the way there are cyclists, lovers walking hand in

hand and some groups come as a family.

The scene in front featured serene sea, soft cool breeze

on our skin and the sky with beautiful colors painting by painter

named “Nature”. The background is the mangrove forest

abundant with cork trees, mangrove and nipa palms together

with the sounds of various animals cooing. This is not only a

view point area in the evening but it is a place of relaxation for

everybody.

The golden minute strikes when the sun is about to set

on the horizon shining the golden light on the water making

silhouette of boats at sea. It is the moment that many people are

waiting for and many of them taking out their mobile phones or

cameras to take the picture of this magical moment before the

sun waves them goodbye.

Check-in 6.30 P.M.After the sun set, we agreed that it was the end of our

trip but we should end the program with sumptuous dinner in

the enchanting atmosphere. For visiting Bang Pu, it is a must

to experience the atmosphere by the bay and eating seafood.

We went straight to “Rabiang Talay” Restaurant which is in

the same vicinity. This restaurant commands the exclusive

atmosphere by the bay and is the first restaurant in Samut Prakan.

Initially, it was named “Lantong” Restaurant and branched into

“Rabiang Talay”. Apart from the inherited delicious taste, this new

branch also has the atmosphere of the bay and receiving the

benefit of the sea breeze which make this place a meeting point

rather than for delicious foods.

There are many signature dishes such as fried mackerel

with fresh chili sauce, stir-fried rice vermicelli with water mimosa,

steamed seafood curried pudding in whole young coconut, and a

dish that should not be missed - spicy papaya salad with fresh

blue crab. The pleasant atmosphere and ending the day with fresh

seafood make a perfect trip that we do not have to rush plus we

can experience the way of life essence, pay homage to Buddha

images for propitious, enjoy the atmosphere by the bay and good

food. There is no other place where we can easily do all the

activities in a day. For adventurous travelers who are not tired

after the whole day trip, we have another place to recommend..

along the Industrial Estate Road for about 500 meters long.

Goods on sale are varied in style to please the

banks, key chains, fabric bags, dolls, etc.

For those who like to shop while eating or just eating

at the shop, there are many kinds of food on this walking

street such as sushi, bakery, fruit juice, casserole duck,

squid, spicy meat ball salad, steamed Thai desserts, eggs

with variety of condiments, buttered corn kernel, strawberry

yoghurt, etc. The highlight restaurant of this market is serving

shrimp with vermicelli by Miss Krisanaporn where customers

line up waiting for their turn. We were told that late

in the night, customers will be even in great number that

the restaurant has to apply the queue card system. The taste must

be very yummy.

This is another venue that should not be missed when you

visit Bang Pu because you can find everything in just one place.

The walking street opens every Friday, Saturday and Sunday

from 18.00 hours onwards. It can be said that this activity is to

please the evening shoppers in relaxing atmosphere before ending

the trip for adventurous travelers.

Lat Pho Health Park

Is it not wonderful if we can make a leisure trip

together with taking physical exercise in early morning

and evening in the place where the scenery is

beautiful when looking up into the sky and admiring the

quaint art of intertwined suspension cables while the

river is flowing in front of you? A short introduction

could lead readers to guess where this location is.

In this issue, @SAMUTPRAKAN Travel will take you to

Lat Pho Health Park in Song Kanong Subdistrict,

Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan.

Lat Pho Health Park is a public park under

the Bhumibol I and Bhumibol II Bridges or known in

another name as Industrial Ring Bridge. It is a popular

public park with beautiful landscape adorned with

contemporary works of arts. A part of the park is

reserved as the green area for relaxation and physical

exerc ise The most important of all is that there is

a statue of His Majesty the King for people to pay

homage upon arrival.

Furthermore, inside there is the museum zone

which is divided into 3 sections: the first section

displays exhibitions on His Majesty’s Royal Initiated

Projects; the second section displays about history,

culture and traditions of Mon ethnic in Phra Pradaeng

and the third one is the exhibitions on the Industrial

Ring Road Project with information board showing

locations of all bridges over the Chao Phraya River in

Bangkok and suburb.

Every morning and evening, this Lat Pho Health

Park is more vivacious than other times of the day

because of the relaxing and pleasant atmosphere by

the Chao Phraya River. The Lat Pho Floodgate also

helps make visitors easily fall in love with the park.

Bhumibol I and Bhumibol II Suspension Bridges offer a

splendid view in the night time, as if it is a work of art,

with their intertwined suspension cables attracting

people to visit this place.

Antique & Seashell Museum at Pheungnang Homestay has

a collection of antiques aged several centuries, be it clay

pots, porcelain, glassware and seashell of various species that

Mrs. Chawee Siriprawatkul, home stay owner, has been collecting with

passion and displaying in a small private museum. The museum is

open for the public and the admission is free for interested public.

All of the objects on display in this Thai style house are purely her

passion and it is also an ultimate dream of all collectors, herself as

well, to share the beauty of the collection.

The Museum housed in an elevated Thai style wooden

house. The owner told us that she has grown up in this old Thai

style atmosphere and familiar with antiquities that made her falls

in love with them. It is not a surprise that this museum is the

whole Thai style house with a huge number of collections that are

clearly categorized. For the convenience of visitors, the exhibition

is divided into 3 zones.

Taking the stairs to the elevated level, we will find a number of

cabinets displaying antiques such as clay pots, porcelain, glassware,

brassware, teapots, etc. Some pieces aged several hundred years

such as the ancient iron from King Rama IV reign.

Besides being an avid collector of Thai antiques, Mrs. Chawee

is also an avid traveler too. Every time she travels abroad, her

passion for collecting art pieces has never diminished because she

always brings back with her something mostly contemporary eye catching

glassware particularly from Italy. Another kind of collection that is

not less important is tiny dolls from the USA. They are her son’s

toys that she puts on display as well..

เกบสะสมเปลอกหอยไวมากมาย อาท หอยสงข หอยงวงชาง หอยเชลล

หอยเกลยวชน หอยแตงตว หอยแครงหวใจ หอยโขง หอยมอผเลก

หอยมอผใหญ หอยชกตน หอยมอเสอ หอยหนมสาว หอยมวนเลก หอย

มะเฟองเกลยว หอยหชาง หอยปกนางฟา หอยสน�าตาล หอยทเรยนขาว

เมองไทยไมไดเชยวนะ

สวนเปลอกหอยทคณฉวชอบมากเปนพเศษและถอเปนไฮไลต

หลกของพพธภณฑแหงน คอเปลอกหอยสงขเวยนซาย จากประเทศ

อนเดย หอยหายากทเธอซอมาในราคาแพงหลายแสน ซงเธออธบาย

ใหเราฟงวา ปกตเปลอกหอยทวไปจะเวยนขวา นอยนกจะเจอหอยเวยน

ซาย ดงนนเจาหอยชนดนจงเปนทตองการของตลาด และเปนชนทเธอ

รกมากทสดนนเอง

In the middle room, it is an exhibition of more than 700 seashells

of diverse species, one of her special passionate collections. In the

past Mrs. Chawee was a scuba diving aficionado that she had

worked about scuba diving in Phuket for 20 years. That is the

reason why she is fondly in love with those colorful seashells and

started collecting seashells of various species such as conch,

pearly nautilus, scallop, carrier shell, heart cockles, apple shanil,

scorpio spider conch, dog conch, giant clam, harp shell, Lister’s

spider conch, colored cowrie, wood cock murex, white planococcus

minor, etc. She orders the seashells on display in the museum

from India and Myanmar which she secretly told us that some

pieces are the only pieces in Thailand.

For the seashell that she cherishes the most is the sinistral

or left-handed conch from India. It is a rare seashell that she paid

hundreds thousand Baht for it. She further elaborated that normally

the conch shell will be right-handed or dextral. The left-handed one

is very rare. That is the reason why such a conch shell is in great

demand and this is the piece that she loves the most.

ในเรอนไมหลงนลวนมคณคา เพราะเธอเกบสะสมดวยใจรก และน�ามา

From the seashell exhibition room, we walked further deep

inside to the room where collections of old furnitures which is the

family heirloom are on display. There are dressing tables, sets

of altar tables, wooden cabinets and cabinets displaying ancient

accessories such as necklaces, watches, bracelets, rings, etc. The

room is beautifully adorned with retro-pictures.

The collections in this museum under the Thai style roof started

from Mrs.w Chawee’s aspiration since she was very young that she

would like to own a Thai style house together with her love for collecting

antiques. Thus, it makes every piece displayed in this wooden house

invaluable because she collects everything with passion and puts

them on display as a museum to fulfill her dream.

After tired of walking or cycling in Bang Kachao, visitors can

make a stop to experience a pleasant atmosphere while sipping

aromatic coffee at “Kafae Nai Baan” (Coffee At Home), a small

and lovely café situated at the road before getting to Bang Nampheung

Floating Market.

The décor is chic with a part of the house is open as a small

café with warm service as if customers were members of the

family. If the word ‘homemade’ imparts the meaning of cooking

for family members, “Kafae Nai Baan” imparts the same sense

as well. The owner passionately makes every glass of beverage

and serves with friendliness reflecting how ‘homemade’ should be.

The décor is chic with a part of the house is open as a small

be.Entering inside, we will find the décor harmoniously integrated

with nature. Tables and chairs are made from old wood. The

café is in itself being a small art gallery and the whole atmosphere

is simple and warm as if we were sipping coffee at home. Looking

around we can see the wall decorated with the paintings of hibiscus

in bright colors. Outside is shady with various trees around the

house particularly the climbing vine with beautiful hanging flowers.

Visitors can select from the beverage menu to quench their

thirst. The highlight or signature menu that visitors should not

miss includes coconut coffee frappe, coconut green tea frappe

and coffee at home. The owners, Ms. Nutcha Sirodom and Mr.

Somkiat Chukaew, have developed the coffee and green tea menu

with aromatic coconut meat and juice, raw ingredients from their

back yard. It is a perfect combination that offers the taste of coffee

with the aromatic coconut juice and is very refreshing. Green tea offers

the same experience.

For coffee at home menu, the highlight is in the mixing of coffee

with green tea that offers strong taste, unlike others. Besides, there

are traditional coffee menu such as Americano, espresso, cappuccino,

mocha and latte be it hot or cold, visitors can order to their preference.

Not only that, the café also offers green tea, cocoa including fresh fruit juices for visitors to take with homemade snacks.

“Kafae Nai Baan” is suitable for a relaxing stop in a pleasant

atmosphere while sipping a glass of beverage before starting on

touring again.

We start with paying homage to Lord Buddha

temple and admiring the main chapel and the old

small chapel which inside has beautiful painting

by unknown master painters in the early Rattanakosin

period on the door and window panels. The painting

aged over 200 years, though faded by the passing

time, it is still beautiful particularly the painting of

Mon girls in elegant manners. The painting was

praised by Mr. Prayoon U-luchata, national artist in

visual art (painting) as a superb painting of early

Rattanakosin period.

Bang Nampheung is rich with

plant diversity, both naturally grown

and orchard grown by villagers

which attract bees to nest in this

area in a large number that it is

the origin of the village’s name.

The way of life here is simple and

the most interesting is the village

cooperation to found an OTOP

Subdistrict for tourism with OTOP

products for sale in the community

and at Bang Nampheung Floating

Marketing to generate income for

people in the community.

The unavoidable first impres-

sion is the pleasant nature. Along

the way is lined with trees coupled

with the location by the Chao Phraya

River providing charming scenery

with fresh air and cool weather all

the year round. The route within

the community is just a narrow

walkway snaking throughout the

community. Therefore, it is suitable

for small vehicles. Visitors prefer to

use bicycles for their convenience

and at the same time riding

bicycle does not degrade the

environment. In the community,

there are many bicycle rental

points. The rental charge is only

50 Baht per day. On the way,

we passed villagers and other

travelers riding their bicycles. Each

has smile on their faces which

makes the visit an impressive for

all.

Local Wisdom

The House of Aromatic Herbal Incense

Sticks is the first stop. This is where visitors

can learn how to make mosquito repellant

incense sticks from natural ingredients

such as lemongrass, neem, kaffir lime,

cinnamon, turmeric, etc. There is no single

chemical based in the ingredients. Visitors

visiting the house like trying their hands on

incense making very much as it is not

difficult as it seem to be. Next activity

is making tie & dye fabric which is a fun

activity for visitors to use their creativity on

the fabric as they like. It is another local

wisdom learning place that is open for those

interested parties.

Leaving the House of Herbal Incense

Sticks, on the left hand side is the orchard

of Mr. Vinai Poomrueng who has been

experimenting in cultivating numerous local

plants in an integrated agricultural farming.

His orchard has many fruit bearing trees

such banana, coconut, lemon, jackfruit

guava, etc. Interested parties are welcome.

Continue walking on and turn left about

50 m. visitors will find ‘the runner’s house’

where they teach making compress ball from

natural grains. There are also massages with

compress ball to relieve pain and also for

those who are weary from walking. If you

come in a group, should make an advance

reservation. Should you visit on weekend,

don’t be surprised to see the house closed.

Bang Nampheung Home Stay Group is

a community enterprise that opens villagers’

houses by the river for tourists to stay

overnight amid the nature. The home stay

opens for stay over the weekend (Saturday-

Sunday) with prior arrangement only. The

rate is Baht 400.- a night per person. The

attractiveness to overnight in a home stay

is that visitors will have the opportunity to

experience the local way of life, eat local

food that the taste is second to none, sleep

soundly with cool weather that air-conditioner

is not a necessary plus receiving warm

friendliness from the villagers. Besides,

in the evening there will be a cruise in the

canal to watch fire flies. The important point

of staying in a home stay is to observe the

rules such as not be noisy, dress properly

and should be back in the home stay by

22.00 hours.

(Phraya Rajawangsan and United Councillors) relating

to the story of arts be it visual, auditory, verbal and

mixed arts which enlightened us how people of the

old days valued the beauty of artistic works. Arts

created during each epoch would reflect the valuable

story in its own such as the artistic works at Wat

Sarangsok that reflect visible stories from the past.

สรางขนในสมยสมเดจพระเจาอยหวบรมโกศ แหงกรง

ศรอยธยา พ.ศ. 2300 แตไมปรากฏหลกฐานแนชดวาใคร

เปนผสราง โดยไดรบการบรณปฏสงขรณในป 2360 ตรงกบ

รชสมยพระบาทสมเดจพระพทธเลศหลานภาลย รชกาลท 2

ซงระบนามของวดวา “วดปากอาว” เนองจากตงอยบรเวณ

ปลายคลองดานกอนถงปากอาวไทย

Wat Sarangsok is in Klongdan Subdistrict, Bang Bo

District, Samut Prakan. From Land Department’s record,

it is said that the temple was built in 2300 B.E. (1757

A.D.) in the reign of King Boromkot of Ayutthaya Dynasty.

There was no record as to who built it. The temple was

renovated in 2360 B.E. (1817 A.D.) in the reign of King

Rama II and the temple was referred to as “Wat Pak Ao”

because of its location at the end of Klong Dan (Dan

Canal) just before the Gulf of Thailand estuary. พระศรอารยเมตไตรย

เปนพระพทธปฏมาประทบขดสมาธราบ ปางมารวชย ถอตาลปตร

มจ�านวนนอยมากเมอเทยบกบพระพทธปฏมาแบบอนๆ

พระพทธรปขนาดใหญ รวมถงศาลาไมสกซงใชเปนพพธภณฑ

ของทางวด ดานทศเหนอเปนเขตสงฆาวาสและพระอโบสถหลง

ใหม แตเดมชาวบานนยมเรยกกนวา “วดมอญ” เพราะมชาว

มอญจ�านวนมากตงถนฐานอาศยอย สงผลใหศลปกรรมหลาย

อยางถกสรางขนตามความนยมของชาวรามญ

The temple is located on both sides of the road. On

the southern side is the location of the old main chapel,

Ayutthaya period pagoda, swan pole and a large Buddha

image including a teak pavilion serving as the temple’s

museum. On the northern side, there are monks’ living

quarters and the new main chapel. Formerly the villagers

called this temple “Wat Mon” because a large number of

Mon ethnic lived in the area resulting in many Mon artistic

style decorations.

ศาลาไมสก ศาลา 2 ชน ยกพนขนราวครงเมตร มความ

พเศษทเปนเครองไมสกลงรกปดทองทงหลง เสาดานหนาท�าจาก

ไมทงตนวางคกน ผนงรอบนอกชนลางแกะสลกเปนจตรกรรม

นนต�า บอกเลาเรองราวของเหลารกขเทวดา ชนบนออกแบบ

เปนฝาปะกน ภายในเปนการผสมผสานสถาปตยกรรมมอญ

เขากบจตรกรรมของไทยไดอยางลงตว เสามลกษณะสอบเขาหา

กนตามอยางมอญ เพอรบเครองบนทมน�าหนกมาก การสลกฉล

ลงรกปดทองลวดลายตามอยางไทย เชน กระหนก เถา ธรรมจกร

เปนตน ลวดลายภายใตเนอทองนเมอสะทอนแสงจากภายนอก

จะเกดประกายสองสะทอนสะกดสายตาผพบเหน

The old chapel was designed with only one entrance

according to the traditional Mon belief. The top part of the

walls narrowed in to support the building weight instead of

columns. This style of chapel is called “Maha Ud”. It is

assumed that the chapel was built in late Ayutthaya period

unto early King Rama III reign. Thus, there are mixtures of

late Ayutthaya artistic style and early Rattanakosin period in

many places such as the carved wooden gable with line of

columns around the building to support the roof which are

late Ayutthaya period artistic style while the frame of the

gable adorned with lotus design stucco instead of ‘bai raga’

(tooth like ridges on the sloping edges of the gable) and

the windbreak on the gable was made in brick and mortar

instead of wood which are Chinese influence artistic style

found in Rattanakosin period.

The teak pavilion has 2 stories with about 50 centimeters

elevation. The extraordinary is that the whole building is gold

leaf gilded teak wood. The two columns standing together

at the front are made from the whole trees. The outer walls

of the ground level are bas-relief telling stories of tree fairies.

The walls of the upper floor are panels, inside is the perfect

combination of Mon architecture with Thai artistic works.

The columns narrowed in at the top in Mon style to support

the heavy roof top while the carving and gold leaf gilding

are in traditional elegant Thai and Buddhism designs. These

gilded designs when reflecting with the light from outside will

be sparkled attracting visitors with the spectacular viewing.

นกเดนทางทมโอกาสไดมาเยยมเยอน วดสรางโศกแหงน

อาจหลงใหลในเสนหของศลปกรรมประเภทวจตรศลปและ

ประโยชนศลปทสะทอนออกมาจากศลปะวตถอนทรงคณคา

มากมาย ความงดงามออนชอยของสถาปตยกรรมไทย จน

และมอญจะยงคงตดตรงในความทรงจ�าของผพบเหนไปอก

นาน และยงมอกหลายคนทไมไดน�ากลบไปเพยงแคอรรถรส

ทางสายตา แตยงไดพกผอนจตใจจากความวนวาย ใชเวลา

พจารณาปญหาทเกดขนอยางรอบคอบ ใหศลปกรรมรอบกาย

ชวยจรรโลงใจ และ ความสงบจากภายใน จงเปนอกคณคา

หนงทหลายคนไดรบกลบไปเชนกน..

Inside is set up as Wat Sarangsok Museum full with

invaluable antiques such as the replica of Bodhisattava

Maitreya Buddha holding palm leaf fan that looked like

magnifying glass in lotus bud shape. The Buddha image

alike the one enshrined at Wat Lai. Moreover, there are

Buddha images in various postures i.e. sitting in vajarasana

(crossed-leg posture), seated Buddha image protected

by seven-headed naga, disclosing the three world posture,

descending from the Tavatimsa Heaven posture, Buddha

image in full regalia, salvation of Pakaphrom posture,

partaking of honey-sweetened rice posture, meditation

posture, etc. All are Buddha images in significant postures

which are rarely found in other temples.

Moreover, outside the pavilion there are many

interesting architectures such as small stupa in the of

shape straw pile with narrow body, an integration of

Ayutthaya, Rattanakosin and Mon artistic styles; standing

Mahakaccana image calling in wealth; Sivali (a Buddhist

Saint) image; statue of King Taksin including swan pole

and plaster junk replica that serve to confirm that this

temple is a Mon temple.

Many visitors visiting Wat Sarangsok will be enchanted

by the charming artistic works of numerous antiques.

The elegance of Thai, Chinese and Mon architectures will

impress the visitors for a long time. Many will not only

bring back with them those eye pleasing artifacts but

also the relaxing pleasure from the daily chores. Take

your time to carefully ponder the arising problems and

use the art to pacify your thought for spiritual serenity. It

is another value that many people bring back with them

from visiting this temple.

หลมหลบภยชมชนโรงวว

อนสรณสถำนของชำวปำกน�ำ

ยอนกลบไปชวงสงครามโลกครงท 2 เมอวนท 8 ธนวาคม พ.ศ.2484

กองทพญปนไดยกพลขนบกทบางป-สมทรปราการ เขามาตงฐานท

มนบรเวณสามแยก (หอนาฬกา) เปนจ�านวนมาก ในสวนราชการ

ปอมปราการตางๆ ของเมองสมทรปราการจงถอเปนพนทเปาหมายซง

ประมาทไมได ทางการตองตระเตรยมหลมหลบภยอยหลายแหง เพอ

ใชหลบภยทางอากาศทก�าลงเกดขนในขณะนน บรเวณชมชนโรงวว ก

เปนอกหนงแหงทมการกอสรางดวยเชนกน

หลมหลบภยชมชนโรงวว เปนหลมหลบภยทสรางดวยอฐ รปทรง

4 เหลยมผนผา มประตทางเขาออก 2 ทาง ดานในของหลมหลบภย

เปนหองโลงกวาง 15 เมตร ลก 3 เมตร มชองวางระหวางก�าแพง

และเพดานราว 15 เซนตเมตร เพอระบายอากาศ สามารถรองรบชาว

ปากน�าไดถง 100 คน

วนเวลาผานลวงเลยมาหลายป สงครามโลกยตลงแลว แตภาพ

เหตการณส�าคญตางๆ ยงคงตดคางในหวงความทรงจ�าของชาวชมชน

ครงท 2 แถวโรงววจะมหลมหลบภย ฉนตองเอาเสอผา เอาของส�าคญ

ตางๆ ยดใสกระสอบไปแอบไว ในหลม ดานในหลมจะเงยบ มด คน

เขาไปเยอะ เพราะเครองบนมนนกจะมามนกมา เวลาฉนลงไปชอนกง

คนเดยวอยรมแมน�า กจะไดยนเสยงหวอ ฉนตองรบวงเขามาหลบ บางท

ฉนเดนออกมาดานนอกปอมจะมทหารญปนเตมไปหมด เขากไมท�าอะไร

ตอนนนฉนยงเดกอย ประมาณ 10 กวาขวบ เวลาเขาจะทงระเบดจะม

เสยงหวอขนกอน ถามากลางคนละนากลว ไมมไฟ ตองจดเทยน ตอน

นนหวอดงบอย เครองบนมาทกวน ใครมขาวของส�าคญกเกบไวกบตว

พวกของใชเรากไมไดเอาไปดวยหรอก”


Going back in time during World War

II, on 8th December 1941, Japanese

army landed at Bang Pu, Samut Prakan.

They set up their bases around the clock

tower junction in a large number. Therefore,

the office buildings and forts in Samut Prakan

unavoidably became attacking targets. The

authority built air raid shelters in many

areas for the people to seek shelter during

the air raids. At Rong Wua Community,

there was one built for this purpose.

Rong Wua Community Air Raid

Shelterwas made from bricks in rectangular

shape with 2 entrances. Inside was a hall

15 meters wide and 3 meters depth. There

was a space for ventilation about 15 cm.

wide between the wall and the ceiling. This

shelter could hold about 100 people.

Though the World War II was over

for many decades, Rong Wua residents

still remember those important incidents.

This shelter is like a memorial reminding

them over and over of those incidents.

Mrs. Chorkiam Thusaranon, a 78

years old lady who used to take shelter

there during the war, told us that “I was

born here. At that time the fort was there

as I remember it was behind my house.

During World War II in this Rong Wau area

there was this air raid shelter. I took my

cloths and other important possessions

put them in a sack and hid it there. Inside,

it was quiet and dark. Many people were

in there because the planes would come

anytime as they wished. Sometimes, when

I was fishing for prawns by the river bank

and heard the siren, I would rush to the

shelter. Sometimes I walked outside the

shelter there were many Japanese soldiers

everywhere. They were not threatening. I

was very young about 10 years old. Before

the air raid, there would always be siren. If

they came by night, it was very frightening.

There was no lighting, we had to use candles.

During that time, the siren was frequently on

because the planes flew in every day. We had

to keep important possessions with ourselves

but we did not bring along household utensils.

ขนาดสเหลยมผนผาเคยเขาไปส�ารวจดาน

ในหลมหลบภยเมอ 4 ปกอน ดานในดไม

ไดเลยมน�าขงและขยะเตมไปหมด”

แม ในปจจบนสภาพของหลมหลบภย

จะไมสมบรณรอยเปอรเซนตเหมอนชวง

สงครามโลกครงท 2 แตนบเปนสงกอสราง

ชนส�าคญทสามารถเกบบนทกเรองราวใน

อดต ทเปรยบเสมอนอนสรณสถานของชาว

ปากน�าไดเปนอยางด

“Inside the shelter, there were

chairs for people to sit. The floor was

concrete and above there were 4 ventilations.”

Mr. Sangwian Pareehajinda, an 86 years

old man who used to seek shelter there

added.

At present, houses have been built

around the 4 sides of the shelter so that we

are not able to get inside. Mr. Narongchai

Dusanee, Rong Wau-Rong Moo Communty

Leader, told us that Presently, houses

were built into the area of the shelter

be it on the left, right and back sides.

On the front are shop houses. However,

we can see rectangular concrete shape.

I used to survey inside the shelter 4 years

ago. It is very disgusting with sewage and

garbage.

Though the present condition of

the shelter is not 100% exemplary as

during the World War II, it is regarded as

other significant building holding historical

stories that well serve as a memorial for

Paknam residents.
