flowers come out. People like to go hiking in spring. In summer it is hot but it’s

the best time to go swimming. Children like summer because Children’s Day

A Quarrel Between the Wind and the Sun

(1) The Sun and the Wind were high up above in the sky. The

Wind was arguing with the Sun about which one of them was

stronger. They argued this question back and forth quite a

while. (2) Suddenly, the Sun noticed that far below them on a

winding road through the countryside a lone traveler was

walking. “Do you see that traveler down there?” asked the Sun.

“Let us see which one of us can get the cloak off his back.” The

Wind thought that would be easy. He blew hard and tried to

whip away the cloak from the traveler’s shoulders, (3) but the

Wind blew much harder and the traveler pulled his cloak tighter still. (4) No matter how hard the Wind blew (and he blew up quite a gale) ,he could not get the traveler to take off his cloak. (5) Soon, exhausted, the Wind gave up. The Sun smiled: “It’s my turn now.” He shone warmly and after a while the traveler began to perspire. The Sun kept on shining and the traveler undid the cloak from around his neck. (6) Still the Sun shone, getting warmer and warmer, until at last the traveler became so hot that he removed his cloak. “See?” said the Sun. “One does not have to be rough to be strong; one can be gentle and persistent and still achieve results.”

Complete English Sentences

Definition 一个完整的句子是由至少包含一个主语和一个谓语的一组词构成。

Usage 1错误省略。

用词简洁是句子写作的一个基本原则,但是省略也得遵循一定的规则,不可随意省掉一些属于固定搭配或有助于理解句意的词。

错误: You’d better do it as were told.正确: You’d better do it as were told to.

Usage 2断句

句子结构不完整,写出的句子常常只是一个不能独立存在的短语或从句。断句: How we should cut off the electricity.完整句: How should we cut off the electricity?完整句: This is how we should cut off the electricity.

Usage 3连写句

当两个或两个以上的独立句子被错误地用逗号隔开或根本就没有标点符号相连时,就形成了连 写句。

She cleaned the room, her mother prepared the supper. 改正这种句子可以根据句意采用以下四种方法中的一种或多种:
