    DEVATHA PRARTHANAI

    Some (Vatthima) villages like Thapplampuliyur and Siddharmalli in the Thanjavur

    district have a unique sampradaya of doing a Devatha Prarthana for their respective

    KulaDeivams like Kaattumanar Kovil Thaandavaraaya Swamy.

    This Pooja has to be done according to certain norms and conditions before any

    Auspisious occations like Wedding at home. The Devam should not be performed

    more than once in a Year.

    The Kula Deivam should be visited either on a Sunday or Tuesday. Doabhishekam for the Deity and get the prasadam [Vibuthi, Kumkumam and

    Kailkuthal arisi] to home

    Devatha Prarthanai Pooja is also supposed to be done only on Tuesdays orSundays

    Only the persons who have the same Deity as Kuladeivam can be a part ofthe pooja and have the prasadam.

    Invite three Sumangalies who also have the practice of this DevathaPrarthana at their homes.

    Prepare Neivedhyam according to the following procedure:o Rice should be boiled in quantities of 3,5 or 7 Azhakus (tumbler or

    kg)

    o It should be boiled in milk in two different vesselso Make Kozambhu with 5 vegetables of which pushnikai , parangikai

    and vazhakai are must & 3 different currys of which parangikai and

    vazhakai are must

    o Any other two vegetables can be added provided they are not Englishvegetables like beans and carrot or rajasik vegetables like onion and

    garlic

    o Thairpachadi and payasam must be made.o There should be no vadai , rasam or any other items on the rice where

    rice is cooked in milk add grated coconuts and jagerry

    Serve the food on three banana leafs for the three SumangaliesDraw kolam and keep all the Prepared Neivedhyam in the pooja room.With the kolam powder right the kula daivams name and thunai. Ex:

    Angalaparameswari Sametha Thandavarayaswmy Thunai.

    In a banana leaf, inside the pooja room spread the vibuthi and kumkumamand keep camphor. Sambrani should be put in such a way that the room has

    a lot of holy smoke, the pooja room and close the room

    Perform NaivedyamClose the door of the pooja room and no one should be present in the pooja

    room

    After few minutes open the pooja room door while ringing the bellShow karpoora aarathi to the god.After the 3 sumangalies started taking the food, other guests can take food.

    Points to be noted:

    Only people with daivam can take this food

    Any remaining food should be served only to the cow

    This should happen before any functions at home like upanayanam or wedding

    This should be performed only once in a year
