MYSOL381
A new additive makes the impossible possible, turning physically incompatible ingredients into thecomponents of a single, stable and homogeneous liquid.Easy to use, MYSOL 381 is the key to solubilizingfragrance oils, lipophilic vitamins and other apolar substancesin highly polar solvents, such as water and ethyl alcohol.

01. IDENTIFICATION OF THE PRODUCTTrade name: MYSOL 381ID code / catalog No. 1000381Short description: liquid solubilizer composed of nonionic surfactants and rheology modifying solventsINCI name: PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil; Trideceth-9; Propylene Glycol; Water (Aqua)
02. WORKING PRINCIPLES
Surfactants and surfactant systems can greatly increase the solubility of non-polar liquids in polar solvents, andvice versa. This phenomenon, which involves incorporation of the solute by aggregates of surfactant molecules, isknown as solubilization.Under suitable condition, liquid substances with high polarity differences can be turned into a single liquid phasethanks to surfactants and the intrinsic duality of their molecular characteristic. Surfactant molecules, which have apolar headgroup (hydrophilic group) and a nonpolar tail group (lipophilic group), arrange themselves around smallportions of solute, thus forming soluble microstructures, namely micelles where the group of the surfactant moleculethat is soluble in the solvent is facing outward (see the following illustration).

MYSOL 381 IS A COMPOUND SPECIALTY DESIGNED TO SOLUBILIZE HYDROPHOBICCHEMICAL MATRICES (ESSENTIAL OILS, FRAGRANCES AND OTHER LIPOPHILICCHEMICALS) IN WATER OR WATER-ALCOHOL SOLVENTS.
SMALL QUANTITIES OF MYSOL 381 FORCE THE CREATION OF A STABLEHOMOGENEOUS PHASE FROM TWO OR MORE LIQUIDS THAT OTHERWISE SEPARATE
INTO DIFFERENT PHASES DUE TO POLARITY DIFFERENCES.
SOLUBILIZATION OF IMMISCIBLE OR SLIGHTLY MISCIBLE LIQUIDS IS ACHIEVED THROUGHTHE FORMATION OF ORDERED AGGREGATES (MICELLES) OF SOLUBILIZER ANDNON-POLAR MOLECULES, WHICH ARE SOLUBLE IN THE INTENDED SOLVENTAND ARE SMALL ENOUGH (TYPICALLY 1 TO 3 nM) TO KEEP LIMPID THE SOLUTION.
MYSOL 381 EASY TO USE AND REQUIRES NO SPECIFIC MIXING TECHNOLOGY.

03. SOLUBILIZATION METHOD / PROCESSING NOTES
Gently mix the substance to be solubilized with the amount of solubilizer which is assumed as strictly necessaryto obtain the desired result. Once that is done, slowly add the solvent matrix (e.g. water, water-alcohol mix) withgentle mixing, avoiding trapping air in the mixture or fragmenting the substance to be solubilized (thereby formingan undesirable emulsion). The process can be generally facilitated by slightly warming the mixture. However, this option must be carefully
evaluated to ensure safety and to avoid undesirable chemical and chemical-physical transformations. In the event that a gel forms, attempt to repeat the process at a higher temperature, while maintaining safe workingconditions. If a cloudy mixture is produced, the entire process has to be repeated with a larger amount of solubilizer.
Note:Before beginning, make sure the individual ingredients are actually homogeneous.
