Dear Fr iends in Christ,CONTR IBUTORS LETTER

We have come to t he end of first term already: final exams are this week. We regretfully sawthe leaving of one more student. He is a Konkomba from t he Nor th , and he was needed sodespe ra te ly by the mission he works wit h to nurture new Konkomba converts that for th emeantime he had to drop ou t of school. We will now have a month off from classes, but Christmas regional conventions will take place. The local church is still making renewed p lans for life without a fullt ime preacher. Althoughmy visitation continues unofficially with others, officially I am on the Evangelism committee.Four young men were baptized in November. The chu rch now ha s a Prayer Chairman, anda ttendance a t regular prayer meetings is increasing. A small group is also meeting at othertimes for more prayer.Last month we saw the annual college Board meeting, my 53rd birthday, and Thanksgiving Dayfor mericans

On my birthday, Brian Jennings, another man f rom our church, two students and I were on ourway home f rom a weekend visit to Half Assini , almost on Ghana s western border. A graduatesponsored by friends of Jeff Hostetter is evangeliz ing there . The journey there took us eighthours, and Brian showed th e movie Jesus of Nazareth in Ewe. It was no stranger than Jesusspeaking English, but it tickled me to death to hear him speaking Ewe. Those who werebaptized that n ight and the next morning had al l been attending services in th e thatched shelteron the sandy land 150 yards from th e ocean. But th e movie had convinced them that immersionwas th e right way. I believe ten in all were baptized. Mos t were women , and Bro. Seth hasasked us to pray specifically that men will respond . Ido l worsh ip is also very s trong in thoseEwe fishing villages. The Gulf crisis ha s affected th e economy here. Our gasoline has always been very reasonablein price, partly because of government subsidies. Now the pr ice has gone up to nearly 3.00 agallon. I suspect the government has removed the subsidy and hidden the fact behind th eincrease brought about by th e Gulf crisis. Food prices and al l others continue to ri se, as alwayshappens when gasoline prices go up. I choose to eat a lo t of Ghanaian food for my main mealeveryday. It is good, and it is cheaper . Even then, I can barely make it on my Ghanaian salaryI am no t in need -1 have other money, of course.) It just helps me realize the struggles of ou rGhanaian co-workers. They will surely need an increase soon, in addition to the investmentmoney we gave them.

Prayer: Thanksgiving fo r th e safe birth of a baby girl to the Couches in Ohio on November 19and of a baby boy to Enoch and Lydia Nyador here in Ghana on November 22; continuedprayer for t he emot iona l and physical heal th of Christian Adjei; better housing fo r BrianJennings; fruitful and edifying Christmas conventions.Gratefully yours in Christ,
