The national language of the Philippines is Filipino. As

it evolves, it shall be further developed and enriched on the basis of existing Philippine and other languages.

Vicente Albano Pacisy Kolumnista ng PDI y Sinabing mabuting probisyon iyon sapagkat it

stopped the inward development of the Filipino.

It stopped the inward development of the Filipino.y Totoo nga ba ang pagbibintang na ito? Mula ba

It stopped the inward development of the Filipino.y Ang broadcast ng Radyo Bombo sa Cebu noong

Mungkahi ng integrasyonNevertheless, a determined scientific effort should be exerted to redress the advantage Tagalog has acquired illegally. Adoption of words and phrases from the other dialects should be top priority, and meanwhile, Tagalog should be temporarily moved to the back burner.

Mekanismo para sa integrasyonThe scientific, fair and pedagogical thing to do is to stop the promotion and propagation of Filipino as it is today and to give a chance to other dialects to catch up. It should be withdrawn from the schools and returned only when the process of integration has reached a certain point of stability.

Ang pagbasa ng Philippine Free Press(October 1, 1988)y Filipino or Pilipino is a linguistic swindle worthy of the

so-called National Language Institute. The new Constitution looks hopefully to its development to something worthy of being called national language as it evolves y In human evolution, it is in the stage of Neanderthal Man. No longer ape, not yet human, Shambling as it walks and low-browed. Like Pilipino or Filipino as a language. Down from the trees and just out of the cave of ignorance.

Jose F. Lacaba (Agosto 20, 1970)y Perhaps the Philippine situation can never be fully understood by someone belonging to the power elite. The Westernization of those who have graduated from the university is almost complete. y The students who have learned English easily are the same ones who have quickly embraced the citizens alienated from their fellow Filipinos because they live in an artificial society, a society built on the principles and objectives imported through the use of English. y It is not surprising that many intellectuals believe that nationalism and the language problem are separate, that it is possible to show concern for the country without supporting Pilipino.

Jose F. Lacaba (Agosto 20, 1970)y Those who say that Pilipino is inadequate to meet the

needs of the modern world are simply unaware that Pilipino has been making great strides in the past 10 years. y Those who say that Pilipino has produced no significant literature are only confessing that they have read nothing of the literature written in Pilipino in the past 10 years.

Jose F. Lacaba (Agosto 20, 1970)y Those who say that Pilipino cannot cope with 20th

century science and technology have not heard Filipino engineers, for instance, talking business in Pilipino: their sentences are in Pilipino but they use English terminology when no terms in the language exist, in the same way that English unashamedly incorporated foreign words, spelling and pronunciation unchanged, into its own vocabulary. y Those who fear that Pilipino will throw us back to the stone age do not know that Pilipino is already advancing into the space age, the age of revolution.

EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 335y

August 25, 1988 ENJOINING ALL DEPARTMENTS/ BUREAUS/ OFFICES/ INSTRUMENTALITIES OF THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE SUCH STEPS AS ARE NECESSARY FOR THE PURPOSE OF USING FILIPINO LANGUAGE IN OFFICIAL TRANSACTIONS, COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE.

Adrian Cristobal (PDI, Hulyo 27, 1990)y It is a misconception dearly propagated that Ms.

Corazon Aquino is a weak president, utterly lacking in political will. y The truth is that she is a strong, even stubborn president who is far reluctant in exerting her will on our political society.

Political Willy Sabi ni Cristobal: y For the Constitution grants the presidency the

monopoly of political will they forget that the political will to which the presidency has an exclusive franchise has always been inevitably exercisedy Ano ang kulang para matapos ang kontrobersiya

tungkol sa Filipino, ang wikang pambansa? POLITICAL WILL!

Seksiyon 7y For purposes of communication and instruction, the

official languages of the Philippines are Filipino and, until otherwise provided by law, English. y The regional languages are the auxiliary official languages in the regions and shall serve as auxiliary media of instruction therein. y Spanish and Arabic shall be promoted on a voluntary and optional basis.

Seksiyon 8This Constitution shall be promulgated in Filipino and English and shall be translated into major regional languages, Arabic, and Spanish.

Seksiyon 9y The Congress shall establish a National Language

Commission composed of representatives of various regions and disciplines for the development, propagation, and preservation of Filipino and other languages.

Reaksyon sa Seksiyon 9y JM Zabala (Times Journal, Peb. 19, 1990)

argued that Filipino has yet to evolve, and that Tagalog, which is identified with Filipino, hasn t been accepted by the majority of the population.

Reaksyon sa Seksiyon 9y Prof. Edilberto Alegre:

Tagalog is by default and by fact the national language. It is the lingua franca of the entire archipelago. Call it Filipino/Pilipino then, for that would conquer a national scope on the regional Tagalog language

Ang first hand account ni Alegrey Those were glorious days for the national language; it

was truly national in scope. Whatever jaundiced Cebu politicians and fully-minded UP academics may say, this was one instance in which practice proved that theirs is the talk, and somewhere else is the doing.

Konklusyon ni Alegrey Tagalog from Manila to all the regions of the

Philippines that is Tagalog from the center outwards and between regions. The factual reality is this: Tagalog is the national language of the Philippines. It is in current use, it is effectively utilized, and it is by usage established fact.
