INTRODUCTION Health Co is fully integrated, nonprofit health care organization with nine major medical centers and thirty six affiliated clinics, rehabilitation centers and other units. Health Co is located in the eastern United States and having 6700 employees. Pat is serving Health Co since 5 years and managing the legal department of Health Co. Francis is the director of Laboratory services of the biggest hospital of Health Co. Mercer, a veteran and well known pediatrician has recently joined Health Co.s pediatrics organization. The case revolves around three different scenarios from three different departments at HealthCo and it explains the problems faced by these departments and the employees working in these departments. It also explains the measures taken by HealthCo to overcome these problems.SUMMARYThis case is about a health sector organization, Health Co, which is working quite well over all and doesnt seem to have any problem in their systems. They own several hospitals and rehab centers providing employment to a huge number of employees. They have proper departments working in their respective fields. Once we start digging in the depths of this organization we came to know about different situations that employees of different departments face on a day to day basis. The first case is about Health Co.s legal department which is running short of employees and having too much work load which needs dedication and commitment. The employees working here are under too much work load and because of the extensive work load they are unable to maintain work-life balance. One such example is of Chris, who has recently joined Health Co and is a sharp attorney. He works very hard and at times work overtime as well. As nowadays he is also sharing the workload of her colleague Sidney as well who is on a twelve week leave and at the same time Chris is under a lot of pressure to take care of his family as well which consists of two elderly parents of which one needing daily care and a toddler daughter. Pat, his boss knows that Chris is a hardworking person and doesnt want to lose him. He wants Chris to go to New York for some legal negotiations but due to family responsibilities he refuses to go and starts thinking that why he has joined this place and take his previous partners as better than Pat. On the other hand Pat knows that he is asking a lot from Chris and Sidney is also on a leave. He starts thinking that why Chris is not motivated and thinks of ways to make them more productive. The second case is about the laboratory staff of Health Co in which Blair had been the project lead during implementation of a new quality process in lab and did very well despite of above average work load and met all his targets successfully. There was a point of time when he might have lost his focus on the job as his father suddenly wanted retire to Ireland and this would cost Blair to invest his time to make his dad settle and would eventually affect his work, but all this was kept under control by his boss Francis who realized the severity of the matter and decided to help Blair in his personal matter. So he made arrangements for his dad and connected Blair with Kyles Elder Care Referral Service which eventually made his dad satisfied who was delighted with their facilities. Blair was extremely grateful and thanked Francis for his efforts otherwise gathering info about care houses and setting his dad would have consumed 15-20 days resulting in delay of the project. This also made Blair think it is great to work with someone who takes care of you and your needs. After all work is just one part of life and there are many other things which are important for work-life balance.Third case is about a meeting between Robin, HOD of pediatrics at Health Co.s second largest hospital, and Mercer, the director of pediatrics at Health Co. Robin is here to discuss about his retirement plan. He is 56 and wants to gradually get into the retirement phase instead of a retirement in which you stop doing work from the next day. He suggested that he would work for thirty hours and couple of clinic days a week for the first two years. Then the next three to five years he would like to transact towards full time retirement by reducing the work to twenty hours a week and in addition working with students and research projects. Robins first intention is to stay with Health Co but he do have the option to move out as other organizations are also showing interest in hiring him because of his work experience. Mercer listened to him carefully and explained him that at the moment there is no formal retirement policy, employees just fully retire. He also said that he would have to discuss this with HR department as he doesnt want to lose him as he is a useful guy. After Robin left, Mercer began to think over all the discussion that took place as he has already heard that HR is planning for some retirement funding. Moreover, Robins suggestion of working with the medical students could be useful enough for some internship and residency experience which would also attract top students to Health Co, as these things greatly help the students in their professional life.

CASE ANALYSISAnswer 1: DIAGNOSIS PROCESS OF HEALTH COProblem Area IdentificationThe major factors of employee turnover in Health Co after diagnosis process is that there is no work life balances of employees, excessive workload and less employee benefits which results in stress and thus less productivity. These are the major problem area that we have identified after diagnosis process and that is the reason for high turnover in Health Co.Diagnosis and Work on the ProblemFlextime: Establish a flextime program where employees can work extra hours during the week to receive a day off every other week.Provide special working arrangements for employees who are caring for young children or parents: Allow staff members with responsibilities for child-rearing or caretaking to work shorter hours, and providing them with the elder care services for parents.Paternity Leave: Establish a paternity leave program where an employee can take time off to care for his children.Learn to better manage your time and avoid temporizing: For many people most of the stress they feel comes from simply being disorganized and procrastinating. Learn to set more realistic goals and deadlines and stick to them.Answer 2:Scenario 1 : Problem Identification: Mismanagement, excessive work load and lack of responsibility that is leading to employee turnover.Solution: Pat should take work load from Chris and distribute between himself and Sidney, and Sidney should realize her responsibility and should work from home in case if she is not able to join office from her leaves. Pat, on behalf of Health and Co should provide Chris with the baby sitter and elder care service to his parents to resolve his personal problems so that he can go to New York and get his work done effectively.

Scenario 2: Problem Identification: No referral services offered .(Child care, elder care )Solution: Francis have assigned Blair with some challenging task which Blair has successfully achieved and Francis have supported Blair in moving his father to Ireland by arranging the elder care service so that Blair doesnt have to involve in the movement procedure which may cause inefficiency is accomplishment of companys goal.Scenario 3: Problem Identification: No formal HR retirement policy, reluctant to change their HR policy to retain valuable employees. (Leads to employee turnover)Solution:HR should review their policies and make the policies which retain their valuable employees rather than urging them to move away from the company. Since employees are the assets of the organization and HR policies should be in a way that keep employee satisfied and motivated to get their optimum benefit.Answer 3: Key issues in HealthCo becoming a top company in terms of work-life benefits are as follows: Excessive work load. They do not offer fitness facilities or paid health club membership. Referral services like child care, elder care and other referral services are not offered by HealthCo. Paid extended leaves are not offered by HealthCo. There is no proper employee committee that takes care of work-life issues. No proper distribution of work among employees.CONCLUSION
