A good start is half gained, says the proverb, and that is also the case with a new school year. The smoother the beginning, the easier it is for your child to feel in the academic, social and sports field that he / she is in control so that he / she can approach it with confidence and a positive attitude. But how do you kick off right?

Always positive Be positive about school and the new school year - it is contagious and will make the new year feel a lot less intimidating for your snap! Talk about all the good stuff waiting, like he / she will see all his / her friends again (or make wonderful new friends) and learn many new things.

Bits of stress It is perfectly normal for children to feel a little anxious before the first day of school. You can help with this by talking to your child about it and by strengthening his / her belief in his / her own ability to handle the challenges. Tell him / her: “Of course you feel a little scared, but I know you will enjoy it a lot. You make friends easily. ”

Chaos control The beginning of the year, with all its school letters, fees to pay and new extracurricular activities, can feel chaotic and overwhelming for the parent and child. Keep your home under control by already putting your systems in place and defining fixed places for things like school letters, suitcases and lunch boxes.

Durable works As necessary as it is to compare prices when you want to buy school supplies, remember that cheap is sometimes expensive to buy. It does not help that you buy school shoes for your child that need to be replaced two months later. Invest in good school shoes, a book bag that can survive rough handling and if your child's school list recommends brand names - take note - the teacher has known from years of experience which stationery works and which does not.

Emotions – You are not alone! Connect with other parents with children the same age as yours and arrange for your child's play appointments in the weeks before school starts. Not only will it boost his social life at the beginning of the year, but it will also help you have a good support network in place when school starts - it will help if you can have another mom in an emergency call.

Fantastic internet! Don't walk your feet behind stationery and other school supplies this year: Do it online! Waltons, Pick 'n Pay and others offer an online ordering service where you can find your child's needs.

Good food Your child's lunch box should give him energy for his school day. Make it easy by working out a menu in advance so you don't have to wonder what to pack in the evenings. Keep it healthy and tasty with fruits, cheeses, yogurt, and so on, but stay away from cake and sweets (limit it to once a week). Rather spoil him / her with a note in his / her lunch box.

Hello teacher! Write to his new teacher a letter in which you thank her in advance for the contribution she will make to your child's education, inviting her to contact you if any problems arise and offer you help where you can. Education is a thankless job and your letter can be the beginning of a fruitful working relationship between you and the teachers.
