According to McCle- land the Brackenfell police sta- tion currently employs 27 ad- ministrative staff. “The office function at the station is vitally important and volunteers will be placed in several adminis- trative positions including the charge office, in order to light- en the burden at the station.” Vision for more patrols Operationally the CPF envi- sions to have five more patrol vehicles on the streets. “Currently, there are only nine or ten visible policemen on patrol per shift, providing that no-one is on leave of ab- sence or sick. The station has 17 patrol vehicles available that are not being utilised due to a shortage of officers,” he says. The plan is to deploy a volun- teer to partner with a police of- ficer per vehicle. Since its launch last Wednes- day, six members have been re- cruited already. “Applications will close at the end of July fol- lowed by a strategy meeting mid-August.”With this initia- tive the CPF aims to decrease crimes such as property theft, theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles. In a town with only 123 em-ployed police officers to safe-guard 67 000 residents, think-

ing out of the box is often re-quired.In a project launched by the

Brackenfell Community PoliceForum (CPF) last week, this isprecisely what was done. This project will see the for-

mation of a public policing taskteam made up of former or re-tired police officers. “Some 181former or retired police officersreside in Brackenfell,” saysCPF chairman Sean McCle-land, adding the utilisation ofthese resources could very wellbe an answer to the lack of cur-rent resources at the Bracken-fell police station.

Former officers will volunteerMcCleland says these former

officers will be working on avolunteer basis – not a reservistforce – to assist members of theBrackenfell police station.“The former members know

the legislation and proceduresand this knowledge along withtheir operational experiencewill be of immense value toboth the public and the police.”Once the task team has been

established, volunteer serviceswill be doled out as needed both

at the police station in an ad-ministrative function and oper-ationally in a visible policingfunction. According to McCle-land the Brackenfell police sta-tion currently employs 27 ad-ministrative staff. “The officefunction at the station is vitallyimportant and volunteers willbe placed in several adminis-trative positions including thecharge office, in order to light-en the burden at the station.”

A hijacking followed by a high speed carchase and eventual shoot-out between policeand a group of suspects left several KuilsRiver motorists reeling with shock lastweek.

The action-packed chase, which ended onthe corners of the Stellenbosch Arterial andOld Nooiensfontein Road where a gunfighttook place, happened on Wednesday 1 July.

One witness described the incident as ahorrific experience. “I was driving towardsthe corner when we ( myself and a client inthe car ) heard what sounded like gunshots, followed by a string of shots.

“At that time I stopped near the fuel ga-rage and noticed police members. They didthe shooting. We then realised that this was

some kind of chaseand obviously hadto duck,” BerniceShellar Roberts,an estate agent, said.

According toher, there weretraffic and peopleall over. “Theywere shootingfrom Highbury’sside towards thestore on the corner

of Old Nooiensfontein Road.“I was very shocked at that time.“My client said it’s the first time he saw

something like this as he is not from CapeTown. He was also very shocked and said henever saw so much blood,” Bernice added.

She said both of themwere lucky to escapeunscathed.

“At that point you feel kind of numb, youare not sure. I thought about it later theevening and realised it was actually veryhorrific, that crime came so close tome,” shetold TygerBurger.

Captain Frederick van Wyk, provincialpolice spokesperson, said the shoot-out be-tween the police and the suspects followedafter police received reports of a hijacked ve-hicle.“The suspects were travelling in a re-portedlyhijackedToyotaCorolla. Three peo-plewere in the hijacked vehicle. Three otherhijacking suspects were travelling in anoth-er vehicle.

“During the shooting one of them were fa-tally wounded. One was injured and takento a nearby hospital for medical treatmentand the other four arrested,” van Wyk said.

Police say two firearms, alongwith the ve-hicle, and another car were seized.

No police members were injured duringthe shoot-out. The four arrested suspects, aged between 22 and 25 years have been de-tained on charges of unlicensed and prohib-ited firearms, illegal ammunition and a sto-len vehicle.

“The increase in such crimescanbe directly linked to the lackof visible policing in our neigh-bourhoods,” says McCeland.“A police force strengthened

by a public task team and assis-ted by fully functioning neigh-bourhood watches will expo-nentially increase police visibi-lity in Brackenfell, not onlybringing perpetrators to book,

but more importantly deteringcrime in the area.”Station commander Colonel

Willie Joseph says it’s a goodconcept, but the feasibility of itmust still be determined by thepolice.“For this reason the legalities

of the initiative is currently be-ing investigated by the police’slegal department,” he says.

Ná ’n lang stapkom ons terug by die huisen net voor ek by my eieerf indraai, sien ek hoe ’ngroot bull terrier op myen my honde afgestormkom,” vertel sy.

Haar eie navorsing hetook skokkende onthul-lings gebring.

“Dink mooi voor jy ’ngroot hond by ’n kleintjie sit.

In the latest spate of armed robberies atshopping malls in Cape Town, three armedrobbers held up a family restaurant on Sun-day night.

The robbery at the Spur restaurant in theCapeGate Shopping Centre took place afterclosing time at about 00:15, Warrant OfficerErica Crous, spokesperson at the Bracken-fell police station said.

“A mall cleaner spotted the three suspi-cious-looking men at the bottom of the esca-lator, but before he could get away to warnsecurity, they held him up,” Crous said.

According to Crous the robbers, with thecleaner in tow then proceeded to the restau-

rant on the top floor of the mall.“The doors were already closed, but the

robbers gained entry by jumping over theopen railing on the side of the shop.”

Inside, they ordered one of the three man-agers to open the safe, while the other twomanagers and the cleaner were tied up inthe storeroom. “No shots were fired and no-one was injured.”

Crous said the men escaped with an un-disclosed amount of money. The suspectswore hoodies and their faces were veiled un-der scarves.“Police have studied the videosurveillance material and the case is underinvestigation.”This was the fourth time arestaurant in this chain was targeted byarmed robbers in the Brackenfell area overthe last two years.

Dr Dalene von Delft advocates for a new MDR TB drug that has shown its effectiveness inpatients like herself.

Almost deaf dueto meds – butthere is hopeMICHELLE LINNERT

@linnertmb

A medical doctor from Stellenberg al-most went deaf from TB medicationafter contracting the dreaded multi-

drug resistant (MDR) strain of the disease. Now she is advocating for cheaper, safer

new antibiotics for TB treatment throughTB Proof, the NGO she now works for.“I didn’t lose my hearing completely,” Dr

Dalene von Delft told TygerBurger.“The TB medication that causes hearing

loss is an antibiotic we use to treat MDRTB,” she said. This strain of the bacteria causes the

same disease as “regular” TB, but Daleneexplains it is resistant to first-line antibiot-ics because it has become mutated.Dalene contracted MDR TB through her

work in 2010. Because the bacteria is air-borne, inhaling it causes the majority (upto three quarters) ofMDR cases in the coun-try.“We are currently using a very old regi-

men ofmedicationwith a very old combina-tion of drugs for treating MDR TB,” shesaid. This usually consists of six or seven dif-

ferent kinds of antibiotics – including agroup of antibiotics called the aminoglyco-sides – used to treat different types of bacte-rial infections.“These antibiotics are widely used; they

are ‘old’ drugswhich have been in use sincethe 1950s. It is still frequently used in hospi-tals, but for short periods, usually less thantwoweeks. InMDRTBone has to use it longterm,” she said. The World Health Organisation’s (WHO)

guidelines recommended treatment withaminoglycosides for MDR TB for eightmonths, with total treatment lasting up totwo years.“Unfortunately one of the side-effects is

hearing loss.” Some of the antibiotics fromthe aminoglycoside class most frequentlyused in South Africa are kanamycin andamikacin, Dalene said.“Because these drugs are already 60 years

old, their patents have long expired andthey’re very cheap and made by differentmanufacturers,” she said.“Yes, it comes with a warning that it

could cause hearing loss, but it’s not likeyou can sue the drug company, because itis used ‘off-label’. Thismeans the drug com-panies do not recommend long term use of

these drugs for the treatment of MDR TB,but doctors are forced to use these drugs asthere are no alternatives, and it is a deadlydisease,” Dalene said.TheWHOrecommends regular screening

for hearing loss by means of audiograms,”she said, explaining this meant hearing atdifferent frequencies and amplitudes.“We don’t understand how it causes hear-

ing loss, but it affects the nerve responsiblefor hearing – the cochlear nerve – and theouter hair cellswhich pickuphigh frequen-cy tones, are affected first,” she said.“Low tones still sound okay for patients,

but they start struggling with consonants‘f’, ‘s’, ‘k’, ‘p’, ‘t’. They might not pick uphigh soprano notes.Studies estimate that about one third of

MDR patients lose their hearing, Dalenesaid. And there are no alternatives.“You either become deaf or dead. In most

cases you cannot stop the old treatmenteven though you might lose your hearing.”So when Dalene learnt these were her

only two choices, she tried to access a newdrug being tested in South Africa.“I didn’t want to accept that. If I became

deaf, I wouldn’t be able to listen to musicor conversations anymore; I wouldn’t beable to practice as a doctor anymore,” shesaid. She spoke to people who have hadcochlear implants, Dalene said, one of thema nurse who contracted MDR TB and hadthe implant done, but still had trouble usinga stethoscope.“I realised this was a career ending situa-

tion. Week after week it just got worse. Myhearing deteriorated. Then I heard of a newdrug – the first new TB drug in 40 years,”she said.Janssen pharmaceuticals (part of John-

son& Johnson) were doing clinical trials inCape Town on a drug called Bedaquiline, of-fering a slim chance of hope.“Treatment ofMDRTBhas been at a dead

end until recently.”She found out about the new drug and

contacted the principal investigator andtried to get the drug available on compas-sionate use. “Sometimes they make newdrugs available before the clinical trials arecompleted, seeing as these can take yearsand years. It already took about 25 years todevelop Bedaquiline.“We are very lucky. So far small studies

suggest that this new drug is effective andthere’s a chance it might replace the olddrug,” she said.

keerplek by Sydney- en St. Jamesstraat.

is of nie.

’n Baie dankbare Horn sê die ondersteuning vandie gemeenskap was oorweldigend.

Police are warning the public about anew scam targetting recipients of so-cial grants that may be spreading

across the Western Cape.In Bishop Lavis and surrounding areas

communications officer Captain MarieLouw explained that fraudsters have iden-tified a way in which to de-fraud receiversof Sassa (South African Social SecurityAgency) grants of their income.“A call is made by a person, giving a fic-

titious name. This person acts as if he/sheis officially employed by Sassa,” she said.“The name of the person who is called

is asked or even some time known by thecaller and the latter then requests the per-

son to confirm his/her name and also togive the last four digits of their Sassa cardnumber.“It is then stated that the person will be

receiving a food parcel after supplying theinformation.“This clearly never happens and the vic-

tim later finds thatwithdrawals have beenmade from the account.“People must be aware of this scam if

they are called or if they are visited by per-sons promising these hampers.”A Bonteheuwel resident who did not

want to be named also pointed out thatthere was also a trend for these scamstersto visit people in various areas as well.

“My mother-in-law was approached bya young person claiming to be a studentworking for Sassa who was armed withvery official looking documents,” he said.“Luckily she had left her card with my

wife and when she called for us to bringit to her the guy left saying that he wouldcome back later.“Shortly afterwards we found out that

he had duped some residents into ‘filling’out those forms for grocery hampers onlyto find that illegal withdrawals weremade.”Louw asked that peoplemust report any

similar instances to their nearest policestations.

Have your say on new traffic policyA new traffic calming policy, aimed at

addressing a backlog of 500 projectsand protecting vulnerable pedestrians

such as children on their way to school, isbeing considered by the City of Cape Town.

According to a statement, residents are re-quested to air their views during the publicparticipation process that is currently un-derway. City mayco member for transport,Brett Herron explains each year they re-ceive more than 400 requests for the imple-mentation of traffic calming measures.

There is currently a backlog of 500 trafficcalming projects to the value of R30 million.

Counting among these are requests forspeed humps, raised pedestrian crossings

and intersections, mini-traffic circles, roadmarkings and road narrowing as devices toforce drivers to slow down on residentialroads.

System must be sustainable“Over the past years, we have seen an in-

crease in the number of requests for trafficcalming measures, which can be attributedto the deterioration in driver discipline anda general disregard for the rules of the roadby all types of road user. Given the currentbacklog and the steady increase in requests,it has become necessary to revisit the cur-rent regime. As such, a new policy whichseeks to prioritise the implementation of

these measures where pedestrians, and par-ticularly children, are most vulnerable atschools, parks and libraries is now on the ta-ble and ready for public comment.”

The purpose of the new policy is to providefor a system that is financially sustainablein the long-run; responsive to critical safetyproblems on residential roads; and that willassist in eliminating the backlog within areasonable time.

Part of the new policy proposes that thetransport department implement trafficcalming measures on roads adjacent to exist-ing schools as a matter of priority with thebenchmark of at least 50 schools per year.

It also proposes that ward councillors may

identify, motivate and fund traffic calmingmeasures in response to a proven history ofaccidents on a road or in response to a recentand very urgent incident that demands im-mediate intervention.

Individuals or organisations may alsofund traffic calming measures, subject to theprescribed conditions. The draft policy alsolists various directives about where andhow traffic calming measures will and canbe implemented.

V Public participation on the new policy is Sunday16 August and you can find the policy at your nearestsubcouncil office or library. You can also visitwww.capetown.gov.za.

With the school holidays infull swing, I appeal to parentsto familiarise themselves withthe various social medianetworks that their childrenuse, to help keep them safefrom online predators. Each social media platform

has unique risks and manychildren don’t realise thedangers. They underestimatehow easily accessible theirinformation is and forget thatothers are watching theironline activity. The MetroPolice department recommendsthe following tips:

. Talk to your childrenabout the dangers of socialmedia so they’ll think twicebefore posting a photo or

Social media, teachkids how to be safe

sharing their locations online. Discuss real-life situations

where social media has causedharm, e.g. news stories aboutchildren being “cyber-bullied”.Make it clear to your child thatthey can approach you withquestions or for help.

. Establish an age limit as towhen children are allowed touse social media. Most socialnetworks require users to be 13or older to create an account.

. Put rules in place, e.g. set atime limit for how long yourchild can spend on social mediaduring the week and set specifictimes to go online with yourchild to practise social mediasafety.

. Keep the computer in acommon area of the homerather than allowing children tokeep it in their bedroom.

. Check your child’s privacysettings on each social networkon a regular basis.Social media can be a won-

derful tool, but we need to keepa close eye on its usage inorder to keep our children safe.

LEGAL DEDUCTIONS FROM SOCIAL GRANTS

The SASSA Payment Card

Which Deduction Is Legal?

How can SASSA assist social grant beneficiaries with illegal deductions?

Safety tips for all social grant beneficiaries:

one

0800 60 10 11

Western Cape Helpline @ (021) 469 0235 or 0800 60 10 11.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), would like to provide communities with the

following information regarding social grant deductions:

The SASSA branded payment card, was introduced to allow social grant beneficiaries the convenience of

accessing their social grant anywhere and at any time. The SASSA payment card is a debit card and

allows for cash to be withdrawn from ATM's, purchases to be made from suppliers and legal deductions to

be made. The introduction of the SASSA payment card into the banking system unfortunately also

provided an opportunity for social grant beneficiaries to be exploited through unauthorized deductions.

Before the social grant is paid into the bank account of a beneficiary only deduction is allowed to be

made for a funeral policy, which may not exceed 10% of the total value of the social grant. This premium is

deducted by SASSA before the social grant is paid to the beneficiary and then paid over to the relevant

insurance company.

Once the social grant is paid into the bank account that is linked to the SASSA debit card, legal deductions

instituted by financial entities will take effect for purchases that were made ie: airtime, electricity, micro-

loans, credit instalments, policy premiums etc. Any disputes should be resolved directly between the social

grant beneficiary and the entity that instituted the deduction.

Social grant beneficiaries are requested to report any illegal deductions to the nearest SASSA

office/service point where they will be assisted to complete a claim form so that the matters can be

investigated. Alternatively beneficiaries can contact the SASSA call centre @ where

SASSA staff will record the relevant details and refer the matter for investigation. Where beneficiaries have

not authorized deductions or for their SASSA cards/account details to be used by others, the deducted

amounts will be paid back to them. This is usually done within a period of 3 working days. Should any

social grant beneficiary not receive the required assistance from a SASSA office or staff member this must

be reported to the office manager or the

• Do not to respond to SMS messages offering airtime, electricity and other services. By responding

to these messages, beneficiaries are actually taking on a "subscription" service and the amounts

will be deducted off the bank account through the EFT debit system every month.

• Do not use your SASSA payment card as security for loans and to purchase any financial services

products.

• Do not authorize deductions to be made against your card except for the one funeral policy

deduction that should not exceed 10% of the social grant value.X1Q9Q24H-AL080715

A Kuils River runs through it ...RICHARD ROBERTS

@richardjohn_rj

Ever wondered where the Kuils Riveroriginates, or perhaps where exactly itends up? Often wondered how long,

wide, dirty or clean it is?Well perhaps this is somethingCapeTown

photographer Dillon Marsh can shed somelight on.Marsh, a professional photographer, re-

cently took a series of photos capturing thedifferent parts of this meandering river –from Durbanville to where it eventuallyflows into the sea in False Bay.The photos, 16 in total, form part of the

photographer’s landmarks portfolio, enti-tled “A Matter of Course”.“From the source in the affluent suburb

of Durbanville, it passes through the starksuburb of Kuils River, to which it gives itsname. It then continues past the poor farm-ing communities of Blue Downs, the inform-al settlement of Khayelitsha and finally theperipheral suburb of Macassar where it ex-its into the Atlantic Ocean in False Bay,”Marsh describes the story of the river on hiswebsite.Asked what motivated him to undertake

the project, he commented: “I have oftendriven through the town of Kuils River, and

Cape Town photographer Dillon Marsh tookseveral photos of the meandering Kuils River, capturing many faces of the often tranquil, butalso polluted river.

the river itself has always intrigued me. Itis obviously a major feature of the town, butits banks have been fortified with concreteand people seem to avoid interacting withit.”Two years ago he decided he wanted to

find out more about the river.“So I followed it from its source to its

mouth. The fact that it passed through somany different settlements made for an in-teresting progression, and because it’s heav-ily polluted, the river also seemed to havethe character of an outcast,” explainedMarsh, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree inFine Art from the University of Stellen-bosch.The photo series was completed towards

the beginning of 2013.“I worked on it on and off, over a three-

month duration.” He did so by drivingaround the area near the river, finding pla-ces where the road came close enough to theriver or crossed over the river.“I did walk along the small sections of the

river, but I did not stray too far from mycar,” he added. One of the things, he ex-

plained, that struckhimmostwas the river’ssolitude. “It just seems to pass by withoutpeople really noticing it or interacting withit. This may of course be due to the fact thatit is quite polluted, but it paints a sad pic-ture,” he said.He added: “All I really want to draw atten-

tion to is the river that seems to have been

forgotten. I cannot realistically expect myphotos to enforce positive change to the pol-luted nature of the river, butmaybe they canhelp people becomemore aware of their nat-ural surrounding and treat their environ-ment with more care.”V To view the rest of the photos visit www.dillonmarsh.com/amatterofcourse

Origami unlocks teens’ creativityKyoko Morgan, founder and director of Origami for Africa. PHOTOS: RICHARD ROBERTS

RICHARD ROBERTS@richardjohn_rj

The art of skilfully folding pieces of pa-per into all sorts of ornaments, isslowly but surely beginning to take

shape in Wesbank. This practice, thanks to the generous

help and coaching of one woman, KyokoMorgan, is aimed at building the alreadycreative minds of local teenagers.

Helps to empower childrenKyoko, a Japanese national who moved

to South Africa 23 years ago, has beenteaching youngsters in the crime riddenarea for over three years to fold papers aspart of her origami class. It is here, as partof a school holiday programme, where theyare taught how to fold paper into books, wallets or swans.

Origami, from ‘ori’ meaning folding, and‘kami’ meaning paper, is the art of paperfolding which is often associated with theJapanese culture, according to the onlineencyclopaedia, Wikipedia.Kyoko, founder and director of Origami

for Africa, started teaching children at theWesbank No 1 Primary School as part ofaholidayprogramme.Theprogrammewassoon expanded and now offers free classesto more teenagers at the Multi-purposeCentre during school holidays.“I used to do origami as a child and as

you grow up you do not forget. It is like agame for children in Japan.“I was asked to do it at schools and also

did it with the awaiting trial youths atPollsmoor Prison,” Kyoko said.Apart from this, she also taught children

displaced as a result of the recent xenopho-bic attacks.

“From their reaction I then realised thatorigami actually helps empower children, giving them confidence.“I never thought of it before, but realised

that for some children here it is interest-ing, they find it magical and it is also heal-ing.“It is a great activity people can do either

by themselves or socially,” Kyoko said.

Teaches disciplineHer aim now is to bring origami to town-

ships and underprivileged communitieslike Wesbank.“It is good for all, it helps you physically,

mentally and intellectually,” Kyoko said. The activity, she explains, though not as

action packed at ball games, appeal to bothboys and girls.“Their reactions vary.”Her aim is to train children locally who

can in turn teach others.Ayanda Mpikwa (14) from Leiden High

School in Delft, is one of those students.“I have been doing it for about four years

now. When I started I did not really under-stand origami. When I am down and feelstressed, I take a piece of paper and fold it,it relaxes you,” Ayanda said.He said over the years origami has

taught him to concentrate and pay close at-tention to many other aspects of his life.“It also help to discipline us,” he added.Kyoko said: “Some shapeshave six steps,

others have 600 steps. There is slow pro-gression, and that is what I think makes itso exciting.”A group of Wesbank teenagers will be

showing off some of their origami skills tomembers of the public at the IzikoMuseumin Cape Town this week.V Contact Kyoko on [email protected]

waentjie. “Weet jy, eendag het ek so met dievullis gestap, toe stop daar ’n man en vroulangsmy.Hulle vra hoekomdra ek so swaar, want ek loopmeestalmet die vullis in swart-sakke en sleep dit saam,” sê sy.“Die man het my toe met goed en al opge-

laai enbymyvriendin, Irma, gaanaflaaimetdie klomp rommel. Hy het gesê hy gaan ’nkarretjie maak.”

StootkarretjieDiémanhet.Dis geprakseeruit ’n oubaba-

haar ook wanneer hy by haar kuier.

nute geduur.

KatlehoPuleMohale (19), a formerhead-boy at El Shaddai Christian School inDurbanville has a passion for helping

others in need.Kat, as he is known tohis friendswas iden-

tified as a leader and duly attended two pres-tigious leadership programmes inNewYorkCity, in 2011 and 2012.When Kat returned from the USA, he used

left-over pocket money from his trip over-seas to buy soccer boots and shin guards foran underprivileged deaf soccer team, thePhillipi Deaf Stars. This gesture was so well received that the

schoolboy swiftly launched a non-profit or-ganisation designed to assist township chil-dren with a passion for sports to receive therequisite equipment. The NPO, Katleho’s Give2Talent, also

knownasKG2T, has as its primary objectivethe donation of sports equipment to teamsand individuals from previously disadvan-taged areas. Others that have received fromKG2T thus far include u-15 soccer squadsfrom Klipheuwel FC, Naledi Stars FC andLiverpool-Portland FC.Kat has now progressed into the sport of

cricket, where in conjunction with DistrictNorth Cricket and the Peninsula CricketAcademy in Bellville, he has embarked ona drive to collect second-hand, unwanted orunused cricket equipment for re-distribu-tion to under-privileged schools.ThisGive2Talent cricket initiative, which

started about three weeks ago, is currentlydrivenbyDistrictNorthCricket, with sever-al second-hand kits having already beenfreelydonatedbyDistrictNorthyouth crick-eters. Besides the participation of severalnorthern suburbs schools in the drive, theEl Shaddai Christian School, Kat’s formerschool has also made a donation to the drivein the form of second-hand kits. Perfect

Bounce have recently come on board andhave made a generous cash donation.Anyone interested in joining this inspir-

ing initiative to uplift young cricketers andproviding them with the necessary equip-ment, can contact Kat via email katz-

[email protected] or 078 116 6342.The central drop-off location for all cricket

equipment is at the Peninsula Cricket Acad-emy situated at 8 Hof Street, Bellville. Con-tact Brent Julie on 071 842 2809 at the acade-my for more information.

The 20th edition of the Coke Cup kicked offat sports grounds across the city over theweekend. The competition has been unearthing lo-

cal talent since 1996, giving clubs in the localsoccer associations within the South Afri-can Football Association (Safa) a chance toreveal their strength within the amateurranks.PeninsulaBeverageshas put itsweight be-

hind the initiative again as the title sponsorsof the tournament.“The excitement of this competition is ex-

perienced not only in the senior ranks, butalso by the women soccer players and theu.18s,” Peninsula Beverages says in a state-

ment.415 clubs will compete in the tournament

which has seen the likes of Anele Ngcongca,Rivaldo Coetzee, Thulani Serero, BantuMzwakali and Clayton Daniels use it as aplatform to the PSL and beyond.“It is Safa Cape Town’s noble responsibili-

ty to develop andnurture young talent in theregion and partners like Coke help us tomeet our objective,” says Norman Arendse,Safa Cape Town’s chairperson.“This is the biggest amateur sponsored

soccer tournament in the empires of Safa.“Other regions are amazed at the size and

paar slaggate.

Droom“My grooste droom wat ek baie

Ditis waarvoor ek oefen,” vertel Chloe.Karate is nie al waarin Chloe be-

SAREL BURGER
