Familielede is gebroke ná die ontydigedood van die Brackenfellse polisieman,Adriaan Geldenhuys, wat bestempel is

as ’n saggeaarde gesinsman.Geldenhuys (42), ’n polisiebeampte by die

publieke orde-polisie-eenheid in Faure, isVrydagaand na bewering deur sy vriendindoodgesteek ná ’n hewige argument tuis.

“Polisie, wat gereageer het op ’n radio-klagte, het Geldenhuys dood in ’n plas bloedin sy huis (in De Oude Spruit) aangetref.

“Sy 37-jarige vriendin is in hegtenis ge-neem en het Maandag op ’n klag van moord

in die Blue Downs-landdroshof verskyn,” sêkol. André Traut van die provinsiale polisie-mediakantoor. Volgens Traut is die paartjiese 11 maande oue babadogter kort ná die in-sident in ’n plek van veiligheid geplaas.

Twoweeks after a vicous attack on a Jo-hannesburg attorney in ProteaHeights, Brackenfell police yesterday

apprehended a third suspect allegedly con-nected to this case.The victim, Jongikhaya Gwe (42) alleges

that the attack was racially motivated andlaid charges of assault with the intent to dogrievous bodily harm, and that of humanrights violations, against three men.The third suspect, (age unknown) an ar-

med response officer (ARO) from local SJCsecurity company, was released on R500bail yesterday and warned to appear in theKuilsriver Magistrate’s Court on 9 May.Gwewas visiting his sister inBrackenfell

over the weekend of 18 and 19 April as he

was to take part in the Two Oceans Mara-thon.He was attacked while out for a morning

stroll on the Friday.According to Gwe he was walking down

Jacaranda street when a member of theneighbourhood watch stopped and deman-ded he produce his identity document.Gwe told him that he did not have his

identity document on him and walkedaway.At this point, three security companies

were called on the radio to assist theneighbourhood watch member with “a sus-picious black man”.In the events that followed Gwe was alle-

ponse officer from Bolt Security arrived onthe scene a bit later and witnessed a partof the attack. He described to TygerBurgerhow he had to intervene to prevent furtherinjury to Gwe, who was being punched andkicked.“What happened was very wrong and

Gwe was really badly hurt. I realised thatif I did not keep him safe the attack wouldhave continued. I stood between him andthe ARO, who again attempted to hit him.“I was really shocked at what had just

happened.Nothing about itwas right or jus-tified,” he said.Owner of SJC Security, Charl du Toit,

said the ARO had been suspended with im-mediate effect, pendinga full internal inves-tigation.

Two pitbull terriers attacked and badly inju-red a 26-year-old Parow woman during theearly morning hours of Monday 5 May.

According to WO Jacques Mostert of theParow police, the woman was walking alongVoortrekker road close to the Andries Preto-rius plaza just after 03:00, when she was ap-proached by a 20-year-old man from Elsies Ri-ver and his two dogs.

A security guard, who saw the incident,says a story is doing the rounds that the manwas planning revenge after a business dealwent wrong. Mostert denies this, saying theman intended to rob the woman when he set

his dogs on her.A police vehicle patrolling the area saw the

incident and tried to assist the woman, butthe dogs would not let go.

They used pepper spray to deter the dogs,but to no effect. One officer then fired twoshots and killed both dogs.

The woman was rushed to Tygerberg hos-pital where she is being treated for multiplewounds on her legs and arms as well as a biteto the face.

According to Mostert, her condition is sta-ble.

The man was arrested and an attemptedrobbery case was opened against him.

He will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’scourt today.

Die sogenaamde “Kraaifontein-slag-ter”, Johannes de Jager, is verledeDinsdag in die Wes-Kaapse hoogge-

regshof skuldig bevind op die moord vandie tiener, Charmaine Maré (16).

Charmaine se verbrande kop en torso isverlede jaar in Januarie in ’n oop stuk veldnaby Brightonstraat in Kraaifontein ge-vind.

Nadat De Jager aangekeer is, het hy haarafgekapte bene en arms aan die polisie uit-gewys waar hy dit in ’n boks in die motor-huis en in ’n verlate gebou naby Somerset-Wes gaan versteek het.

Charmaine het tydens haar moord by DeJager, sy vriendin, Carol White, en Whitese dogter, Kristen (Charmaine se vriendin),tuisgegaan.

Die vermoorde tiener het glo haar ouer-huis in Kriel in Mpumalanga verlaat om inKaapstad werk te kom soek.

Charmaine het by De Jager agtergeblytoe die res van die huisbewoners met va-kansie gegaan het.

In die dae voor haar moord het Charmai-ne telkemale gepleit dat De Jager haar invrede moet laat. Polisie het dié ontstellendepleidooie op 15 opnames gekry wat sy ophaar foon gemaak het.

Die foon isnáhaarmoord indieKraaifon-tein-huis gekry,waar sy in daardie stadiumtuisgegaan het.

Die waarnemende regter, Chuma Cossiehet bevind dat De Jager se weergawe vangebeure hoogs onwaarskynlik was.

De Jager het ontken dat hy Charmainedoodgemaak het. Volgens hóm het sy perongeluk op 11 Januarie 2013 in die badka-mergegly enhaarkop teendiebadgestamp.

Hy het getuig dat hy paniekerig geraakhet en besluit het om haar liggaam eers teversteek, en toe later, op te sny en te ver-

brand.Hy kon egter nie aan die hof verduidelik

hoekom hy nie mediese dienste ontbied hetná Charmaine se beweerde val nie.

Cossie het bevind dat De Jager die lykprobeer wegsteek het om die omstandighe-de rondom Charmaine se dood te verdoesel.

Hy is skuldig bevind op twee aanklagtevan moord. Die ander moordklag hou ver-band met die moord in 2008 op Hiltina Alex-ander.

De Jager is ook skuldig bevind op tweeaanklagte van verkragting van Alexander,twee van lykskending van Charmaine, en’n aanklag van roof met verswarende om-standighede, het Die Burger berig.

Volgens dié dagblad het De Jager skuldontken op al die aanklagte, behalwe dié vanlykskending. Hy het erken dat hy Charmai-ne se arms en bene afgekap het toe hy vandie lyk probeer ontslae raak het.

De Jager is skuldig bevind op al die aan-klagte en is tans vonnisafwagtend.

‘Slagter’ skuldig opal die aanklagte

Johannes de Jager, die sogenaamde “Kraaifon-tein-slagter”, is in die Wes-Kaapse hooggeregs-hof skuldig bevind op etlike aanklagte.

People wishing to use the Eskom rebateto fit a solar water heater and save upto half their electricity costs are set for

disappointment. The energy giant incenti-ves to get more households using solar po-wer has been cut.Eskom says it has placed its Load Reducti-

on Rebate Programme under review, mea-ning rebates worth thousands of rands forsolar water heaters will be severely curbed.A leading solar products company has sin-

ce drawn up a petition opposing Eskom’s de-cision.“In a surprise move, Eskom has termina-

ted the current solar rebate programme, ef-

fective from1May,withminimalnotice to thepublic, industry and other stakeholders,”said Klint Munton, owners of SunScan SolarEnergy Technologies.

Demand exceeding supply“Eskom’s major campaigns, which have

cost millions, warn us to cut back on our usa-ge and urge us to turn off pool pumps, geysersand non-essential appliances.“Despite this, electricity demand still ex-

ceeds supply during peak periods, and nowEskom are pulling the plug on their endeavorto save power by their subsidising energy-aware consumers who install power-savingwater heaters and geysers,” Munton said.“How is it possible that a programme such

as theLoadReductionRebateProgrammecan

be discontinued?”The City of Cape Town, a major Eskom

customer, said the rebate cuts only appliedto high-pressure solar geysers, and thenonly if the components used in the makingof these geysers were mostly imported.“There are new requirements around re-

bates and high-pressue systems, being thatrebates will only apply where productionincludes 70% locally produced compo-nents,” said SarahWard, head of the city’senergy department.This is in line with Eskom’s response.

Eskom said the rebates were not cut com-pletely, but policy has been altered.“The programme is under review in or-

der to enhance certain aspects such as cre-atingmore opportunities to stimulate localmanufacture, and the level of rebate,” saidLatetia Venter, Eskom’s marketing andcommunications manager.“The programmewill continue, but with

changes which are currently under consi-deration,” said Venter.She said selected areas with low-cost

housing consumers will continue to recei-ve low pressure (LP) solar water heatingsystems free of charge.

Local technologyThere are two popular kinds of solar-po-

wered geysers: one that works with solartubes, the other with solar flat-plates.A typical 200L solar tube system for a fa-

mily of four costs R29 697. With an Eskomrebate of R5 865 it would cost R23 832.Mun-ton said with financing this amount wasrepayable over up to five years with amonthly instalment of R998.But he said the tubes for this type of sy-

stem are only manufactured overseas.“With Eskom wanting to do away with

the rebate on imported products this isgoing to limit the homeowner to flat-platetechnology only.“This becomes problematicwhen the ho-

me owner has a roof orientation which ismore than 45° off north. Flat-plates do notperform well on such a roof,” he said.The change in rebate policy could threa-

ten local renewable energy businesses.One such business is that of David Lip-

schitz. His company advocates net-metering– an alternative energy solution wherbyhouseholds generate their own electricityand sell any excess back into the grid.Lipschitz said only sixweeks notice on the

termination of the Load Reduction RebateProgramme was given.Thiswas “typical” of government’s appro-

ach, he said.Manybusinesses and localmanufacturing

concerns have been created, he said, but“when government willy nilly changes therules, these local businesses go out of busi-ness and international companies fill theirplace, with an associated loss of localisation,jobs, resources, and so forth”.He said if governmentwould spendmoney

on alternative energy sources to create theirown electricity, it would free up enoughenergy for industry.“Instead of fixing their contracts, Eskom

Daar is eers vermoed dat dit selfdoodwas, maar volgens ingeligte bronne het be-wyse op die misdaadtoneel dié moontlik-heid uitgeskakel.

Volgens ’nTygerBurger-bronwas die snyaan haar been vermoedelik veroorsaakdeur ’n leë glasbottel, wat ook op die toneelgevind is, enwasdaar tekens van ’n struwe-ling wat in die huis plaasgevind het.

Die geregtelike nadoodse ondersoek is la-ter verander na ’n moordondersoek.

Na ’n ondersoek van slegs twee weke isJohan van der Merwe (52) deur ’n polisie-taakspanby syhuis inBrackenfell inhegte-nis geneem in verband met die moord.

Volgens polisie was hy bekend aan dieoorledene.

Die Kuilsrivier-landdroshof het in die-selfde maand borg toegestaan aan Van derMerwe, maar die saak is etlike maande la-ter teruggetrek.

‘No limits’ meeting about social media

“Ons twee dromme het vir meer as ’nmaand buite gestaan en niemand het ditkom haal nie. Ná baie e-posse aan die muni-sipaliteit, het ons besluit om maar die drom-me in te bring. Ons wil graag ons kant bringdeur te herwin, maar ons word dit net een-voudig nie toegelaat nie. So nou gaan allevullis maar in een drom,” vertel sy.

Sonnenberg sê nou dat die dromme ver-keerdelik aan haar uitgereik is en dat ditnooit moes gebeur het nie.

“Die suidelike grens van die area waardie herwinningsprojek, Think Twice,plaasvind, is Ou Paarlpad, wat Proteahoog-te dus uitsluit,” sê hy.

Volgens hom is die projek net in ’n be-perkte aantal areas van stapel gestuur.

“Dit is gedoen sodat amptenare die resul-tate kan bestudeer en die haalbaarheiddaarvan kan evalueer,” verduidelik Son-nenberg.

Die projek is dus vir nou net in ’n data-in-samelingsfase.

“Die Stad vra om verskoning vir die inwo-ners vir die ongerief wat daardeur veroor-

saak is. Ons is egter baie dankbaar vir diebelangstelling wat inwoners toon in her-winning. Hoewel ons nie in die stadium dieherwinningsdiens aan almal kan voorsiennie, moedig ons diegene aan om gebruik temaak van die herwinningsfasiliteit inKraaifontein,” sê hy.

Die sentrum is geleë op die hoek van Ma-roela- en Sandringhamstraat.

kenfell tot in matriek het Pedro inelke denkbare kategorie deelge-neem – “gedigte, spreekkore, sang,voorlees, álles,” vertel hy. Hy’tmeer as 200 sertifikate ontvang enmet prestasies soos “beste voor-drag”, “beste seun” en “beste duet”weggestap.

vir die kunste by die TIE gekweekword.“Die TIE is opbouend. Dis nie

soos ’n Idolswaar deelnemers afge-kraak word nie. Dit is ook nie ’nkompetisie nie. Die idee is dat diekinders pret het, dat hul selfver-troue en selfbeeld ’n hupstoot kry.”Pedro het self al twee keer as be-

oordelaar opgetree by die TIE.Die sanger/akteur Robbie Wes-

sels het in ’n onderhoud vertel datPedro hom 14 jaar terug beoordeelhet toe hy (Robbie) inmatriek was.“Ek het glo vir hom die hoogste

lof gegee en gesê hy moet dramagaan studeer.”

Van die ander bekendes wat ookhul eerste verhoogtreë gegee het bydie TIE, is die operasangers, ZanneStapelberg en RiaanHunter, en diekunstenaar, Lize Beekman.Pedro praat met groot lof van die

bestuur van die TIE. Slegs die ad-ministratiewe en finansiële be-stuurders is betaalde amptenarevan die TIE, die res is vrywilligers.“Ek onthou vir tannie Elize Hay-

man so goed. Sy was en is die dier-baarste tannie. Sy was eers die se-kretaresse en nou is sy die admini-stratiewe bestuurder. Sy was altyddoenig met die sertifikate. Jy kandink hoe dit ’n mens kan besig hou– verlede jaar is 8 489 sertifikateuitgedeel!“Almal op die bestuur het ’n pas-

sie vir die TIE en ek dink ons almalwat in die Tygerberg-omgewinggrootgeword het, behoort hierdiepassie te deel en trots te voel op dieTIE,” sê Pedro.

watRinaGroenewald vanaf 13Mei byRust-en-Vrede in Durbanville gaan uitstal, isslegs van haar geheue van blomme wat syvan haar kinderdae en rondreis met haarman en oudste dogter onthou nie.Maar Rina, wat op 20 Mei 85 jaar oud

sensiaat in klaviermusiek met lof in haarmatriekjaar te verwerf nie. Sy het ook haarlisensiaat in orrelmusiek behaal.Sy was nog klein toe sy die musiek wat

sy op die radio gehoor het, op die klavierin hul huis uitgetokkel het. Sy was tussen5 en 10 jaar oud toe sy die Hongaarse Rhap-sodymet albei hande kon speel. “Ek het diemusiek in my kop geken en onthou, en toeso aangegaan en myself geleer,” vertel sy.Min het sy toe geweet dat sy ook later die

prentjies van kosmosblomme langs dieplaaspaaie in haar geheue sal bêre om la-ter, sonder behoorlike sig, op die skilder-doek oor te dra. Hoewel sy as kind reedsgraag geteken het, het haar pa destyds ge-dink dis tydmors en het haar dit verbied.Sy het in die geheim aanhou teken en

haar bloemlesings op skool nie soos die an-der kinders met prentjies uit tydskrifteversier nie, maar met haar eie kuns geïllu-streer.Sy het na skool net vir drie weke kuns

studeer aan die Tegniese Kollege in Johan-nesburg toe die dosente aanbeveel sy staak,omdat sy weens haar gehoorgebrek nie dielesings en opdragte in die klas kon volg nie.Haar pa het ook gedink ’n gehoortoestel

is ’n mors van geld, omdat haar broer, watook gehoorgestremd is, nie met syne konregkomnie. Syhet daarnabydiemunisipa-liteit op Zeerust gaan werk, waar sy kan-toorwerk gedoen het. Daar het sy met haarspaargeld self vir haar ’n gehoortoestelteen 20 pond gekoop. Sy was 18 jaar oud toesy vir die eerste keer weer kon hoor.Sy het later getrou met haar jeugliefde.

Hulle het drie kinders, twee dogters, Rethaen Ilinda, en ’n seun, Deon. Met drie kin-ders in vyf jaar het Rina nie weer aandagkon gee aan haar skildertalent nie. Die ge-sin is toe Kaap toe waar haarman, dr. Han-nes Groenewald, op Stellenbosch verderstudeer en as chirurg gespesialieer het.

UitgeleefHulle het in Tara in Durbanville gaan

woon, waar Rina haar liefde vir kuns enkleur in haar tuin uitgeleef het.Dit was in 1970 tydens ’n oorsese reis dat

Rina retina-loslating in albei haar oë gehadhet. Sy is met die terugkeer in Pretoria ge-opereer en die dokters kon slegs haar lin-keroog red, hoewel sy toe erg verswakte sigervaar het. Sy het haar regteroog verlooren moes ’n kunsoog kry.Symoes daarna bykans viermaande plat

op haar rug lê – met verbande oor haar oë.“Snags indie donkerwasdit doodstil enhetek baie gedink wat ek nou eintlik wil doenen besef ek wou nog altyd geskilder het. Ekhet in die stilte gelê en baie gebid. Ek het’n belofte gemaak dat as God my net weerbietjie sig gee, ek vir die res van my lewesal skilder,” vertel sy. Toe ek terug by diehuis kom, het my man my R10 gegee en ekhet papier enwaterverf gaan koop en beginskilder. Sy het in 1983 haar eerste water-verf-uitstalling gehou. Daarna het nogtwee uitstallings gevolg. “Ek het my maarself geleer en gedoen wat instinktief kom.”Haar kinders het toe haar “lewe begin

oorneem met hul skoolaktiwiteite” en is dieskilderdoek eers opsy geskuif. In die vroeë80’s het sy vir die tweede keer retina-loslatinggehad in haar linkeroog en is sy geopereer,waarna haar oog nog verder verswak het.Toehaar jongste dogter, Ilinda, in 1984 trou,

het sy geld vir die troue bymekaar gemaakdeur in ses maande meer as 1 000 waterverf-en olieskilderye – hoofsaaklik van kosmosse– te skilder en te verkoop. Sy het gesukkel omdie ligte kleure van waterverf te sien, en hettoe heeltemal oorgeslaan na olieverf. Dit allesnetmet die prentjieswat sy in haar kop gehadhet – sonder ’n enkele potloodsketse vooraf.“’nMensmoenie bang vir die verf wees nie,

jy moet die verf laat doen wat jy wil.”’n Jaar gelede is sy weer in haar linkeroog

geopereer en haar oog ismet heliumgas gevulom die druk te herstel. Sy is daarna weer ope-reer om ’n lekplek te herstel. Sy ly ook al jareaan gloukoom in haar linkerooog. Toe haarsig nog verder verswak het, het sy haar weernie laat onderkry nie. Sy het met ’n nuwe teg-niek beginwaar sy die verf op die skilderdoekuitgooi en met haar vinger die wasige toneleverf. Haar eerste drie skilderye in dié tegniekis vir haar uitstalling gekies. Haar man is op2 Oktober 2010 oorlede op 74-jarige leeftyd. Inhaar diepe bedroefheid het sy begin om wa-tertonele te skilder. “Dit was vir my emosio-neel en het my kalm gemaak,” vertel sy.Die uitstalling “Rina se blomme” word

Pieter vanHelslandt vanParowsemu-siek is kunsvorm-uitdrukkings vansy waarneming van die lewe.

Die musikant, wat onlangs sy debuut-al-bum,WeetStil, vrygestel het, sê hy probeerom sy musiek kontemporêr te hou om ditluisterbaar te maak vir gewone mense,maar hy erken: “Ek wil so bietjie anderswees.”

Pieter skryf oor situasies en ervaringeen hoe hy daaroor voel. “Lirieke is vir mybaie belangrik in my musiek,” sê hy. Syliedjies begin as gedigte voor hy hulletoonset.

“So, dit luister nie net lekker nie, dit ver-staan ook lekker.”

Pieter het lank gesoek vir ’n titel vir syalbum, maar hoe meer hy gedink het oorsy musiek en wat dit sê, het hy besef ditgaan oor die bietjie ouer word in ’n mensse lewe. “Dit gaan oor die bietjie beter ver-staan.”

Stil gemoed“Dit gaan oor daai kere wat jy sit en jy

jou kop net knip en jy besef: ‘Ja, ek ver-staan’.” Hy sê ’n mens neem die wêreld be-ter waar as jy ’n stil gemoed het.WeetStil is by Coffee Stained Vinyl Stu-

dios deur TeeJay Terblanche en RichardOnraet opgeneem.

Hy wou aanvanklik ’n groot simfonieserockklank, soos die musiek van Patrick

Watson, gehad het, maar die vervaardi-gers het besluit dat Pieter se klavierklankso uniek is dat hulle nie daaraan wou ver-ander nie.

“Die hele verwerking van die album isbaie eenvoudig gedoen, sodat die kuns ag-ter die musiek na vore kan kom.”

Wanneer hy nie sy eie musiek sing nie,is Pieter ’n vryskut-musiekregisseur. Hytoer baie na skole om met hul skoolpro-duksies te help, maar wat hom die besigstehou, is sy werk saam met die kabaretsan-ger, Danièle Pascal. Hy speel al tien jaarsaam met haar.

Hy is ook betrokke by die Project En-semble saam met Renate Riedemann en

Jacques Louw, en hy tree gereeld op met’n nuwe jong kunstenaar, André Terblan-che.

WoordfeesPieter het sy musiek in Maart Woord-

fees toe gevat en is vir ’n Woordfees-trofeein die kontemporêre musiek-kategorie ge-nomineer – saam met groot name soos Da-vid Kramer en Laurika Rauch.

Pieter het in Januarie al begin repeteervir sy vertoning, en sê hy was nog nooitvoor ’n optrede só voorberei nie.

Hy sê ook hy kon dit nie sonder sy orkesgedoen het nie.

“Die musiek praat vir homself, maar dieorkestrasie daarvan was absoluut belang-rik om die luisteraar te laat voel wat ekwou hê hulle moet voel.”

A draft policy in is the making to grow CapeTown’s creative and performing arts.

The city’s new Arts, Culture and CreativeIndustries Draft Policy is currently underreview and Capetonians have until 15 Mayto comment on the policywhich includes thefull spectrum of the arts and creative indus-tries, from busking to cultural heritage.

The draft recognises the importance of thearts and aims to promote the creative indus-tries and create an economically enablingenvironment.

Ian Neilson, acting mayoral committeemember for tourism, events and marketing,said the new policy will update the Arts and

CulturePolicywhichwas inplace in 1996un-der the then Cape Town Municipality.

“There is a need for an updated policy thatallows the city to take decisions on the sup-port for, and delivery of, arts and culturalevents,” Neilson says.

He adds that cities around the world areincreasingly realising the importance of thecreative economy and Cape Town needs anupdated policy to be globally competitive.

One of the policy’s desired outcomes is toseemore citizen engagementwith public lifein the city, and its cultural diversity, publicspaces and history.

The policy speaks of creating facilities forthe arts that make citizens feel “at home”.

“This is part of the city’s commitment tobuilding an inclusive city, where all resi-

dents have a stake in the future and enjoya sense of belonging,” Nielson says.

While the city’s department of arts andculture is currently responsible for themaintaince of heritage and memorial sitesand facilities, Neilson says there are talks tomove this responsibility to a more speciali-sed maintenance unit.

The policy lists “persistent fragmentati-on” and “poor coordination” as one of thebiggest challenges to the creative industries,and one of the policy’s aims is to assist net-working and partnerships in order to createmore opportunities.

The policy speaks of creating a databaseof performers who can participate in cityevents.

The city already has an extensive databa-

se compiled since 1996 and in 2010 artists we-re invited to audition to be added to the list.

“The artists are added to the database andmay be drawn on by other departments toparticipate in events,” says Neilson.

The policy promises tomarket Cape Townas a “Creative Industries Hub” and recogni-ses that the arts have an important part toplay in stimulating Cape Town’s tourismand events industries.

Cape cyclists ready for SA champsA strong Western Cape track cycling team is ready for the national championships in Durban.

Provincial colours were recently awar-ded to the Western Cape track cyclingteam ahead of the South African Track

and Para-Cycling Championships takingplace in Durban from 29 April to 3 May.

These cyclists will compete in the teamevents against the other participating pro-vinces.

TheWestern Cape has an active track pro-gram and the team was selected based onperformances at the Western Cape champi-onships and trails held at the Bellville Velo-drome.

This is the first time that a Western Capeteam has been selected as previously, Capeteams were split into Boland, WP, West Co-ast and South Western Districts.

The Western Cape has a very strong teamthis yearwith athletes such asnational teamriders Jeanne Smith and Kyle Borchjesspearheading the men’s elite team. Both Ja-co Scholtz and PeterWheeler, who represen-tedSouthAfrica at theMastersWorldCham-pionships in Manchester, will be riding inthe master’s team.

The full team ranges from u-16 to masters

and also includes a strong ladies sectopm.Elite national track cyclist Maroesjka Mat-thee will spearhead the ladies team. She isjoined by Bronwyn Abrahams, Debbie-Lof-fell Dawson and Myrtle Hagedoorn to com-plete the ladies team.

two niggling injuries but it’s nothing seri-ous. I do a lot of gymwork, especially in theoff-season, and when I prepare for competi-tion my preparation involves a lot of run-ning, work on the medicine ball and lightgym work.”His goals for the future is set - travel to

asmany countries as possible and compete.“Competing in the Olympic Games will
