It s truethat I am behind in newsletters. This one should be a big one. I suffered a bout ofmalaria once in December andhad a recurraice in the first days of January. Both cases were mild, but 1dragged through those days. I am fine now. With my naturally slow pace at most everything, the amount of end-of-term marking overwhelmed me, too.N O R TH E R N V O L T C O N V E N T I O N

A real treat was a trip with Bro. Enoch Nyador and several other people to a regional Christmas convention in theNorthem Volta Region. This iswhere the F.A.M.E. churchplanting work began. Hiere are five evangelists and fivemother congregations and halfa dozen daughter congregations. Over 200 people participated in the conventi(xi. 1wasimpressed with the smooth running of it and with the multiplicity ofpeople who shared leadership and responsibility. Noone man shows there. The usual ingredients of singing, dancing, evangelistic preaching, teaching sessions, a soccermatch, youth quiz, testimonies, were all in evidence. Two features were a bit unusual; two ofthe churches had tambourine troupes who danced and played their tambourinesalmost fiercely dioreographed style; the second is that before each teaching or preaching time, the churches took tumspresenting a songwith dancing in their own tribal style. There are several languagegroups different i om the bug threeofthe South. Eventhe drum ythms change.Several youth and a married couple gave their lives to Christ. The man and woman had lost two daughters to foodpoisoning. Since their gods had not protected them, but the church had ministered to them lovingly during their loss, theytumed to Christ. My privilege to ride along in a jam-packed vehicle on dirt roads and a grass track to a very muddy pondto witness the baptisms. Usuallythey borrow bicycles to make that trip. The weekend visit was worth the tem hourjoumeywhich included a wait for the ferry to cross the Volta River. Aboutone^hird of it is very rough road.

SUNDAY S C H O O L AND SEN IO R SECONDARY S C H O O LThe competition to enter Senior Secondary School is very keen here. My Sunday School class pray a lot for each other inschool matters. Two ofthemgot the top grade of6 in Junior SecondarySchool final examand the other got a 7which isalso excellent. In answer to our prayers, all three ofthem got places in S.S.S. without their par^ts having to pay bribes. Now we continueto pray that their parents can come upwith ihe needed fees for the next three years.

P R Y E R T I M ETHANK GOD FOR: my raiewed health; for the ability to cope with planned power outages because the water levelbehind our hydro-electric dam is dangerously low; for new Ghanaians coming into the family ofGod; for joy childrengive us.(Forwarding Agent sNote: ThankGod for progress for our daughter,CarrieLynnWaddell- she is now beginningtospeak and already uses an alphabet chart to spell anything she wants to tell us.)PETETIONGOD FOR: land registration (it has gone nowhere); myfurlough plans; a happy visit here in ^r i l by KimStauffer ofStillwater, Pa. (wewill take her to a convention). Pray for all ofus that we can bear the heat at ^stertimeThe convention is fer north ofhere and has no Electricity.

    Gratefully and lovingly yours,Dorothy

COLLEGE GAINS ACCREDITATION^^Bh After two years of working through the process Ghana Christian College andSeminary was granted accreditation by the National Accreditation Board of theMinistPi'of Education of Ghana as a tcrtiar\' institution. The government has realized

that its three universities cannot meet all the post-secondar>' school educational needsin the countn so they are trying to encourage upgrading of pri\'ate institutions toshare in that responsibiht>'. Accreditation will make it possible for those whocomplete the course to be hired in government institutions as chaplains and to teach Bible Knowledge ingovernment schools. Our main emphasis remains the training of church leaders, ftay for our discernmentthat we will accept those who are committed to Cluist and not just looking for a way to increase

    employment opportunities.DARKNESS AND LIGHT

The planned power outages mentioned in the February letter have become a reality. The first plan wastwenty-four hours on and twenty-four hours off. Last weekend it was changcd to three twelve-hour days ofpower followed by three twelve-hour niglits of power. This power shedding is supposed to slow downthe lowering of the Volta River to prevent total shutdown of the hydro-electric plant before the rains come. The situation affects ever>'one. including those petty traders who sell ice water or fresh fish. There is ashortage of cement with resulting price increases. We arc managing all right with meals but we buy meatand fresh fruit and \egetables in small quantities. It is miserable to teach and stud> in hot classrooms withno fans. Most people suffer when there are no fans to sleep under. We will survive, but we must keepreminding ourselves of our other blessings such as a constant supply ofwater.

    FURLOUGH PRE P R T ION

My plane reservation is made for August 20 ^ First stop is Pennsylvania as usual but I plan to be inFlorida, Lord willing, in time for the state convention in Orlando in September. I'm looking forward toseeing many of you

Dear Friends in Christ,GREAT NATIONAL EASTER CONVENTION

Over 1,000ChristianChurchmembersgathered in the river town ofYeji, a nine or ten hour drive fromAccra, to worship, study, fellowshipandwitness over the Easterweekend. Becauseof the distance, I hadexpecteda lower attendancebut was amazedand pleasedwhenthe total number exceededthat of two yearsago here in the South. The balance was tipped by a couple hundred Northerners, many ofwhom cannotcome when the convention is in the South. Mornings were devoted to worship and praise followed byBible studies on the theme ofunity. Various activities took place in the afternoons. I was pleased thattwenty-five peopleatt^ded my workshopfor SundaySchoolteachers. Everyeveningthe conventionmoved to a more accessible public groimd for evangelisticpreadiing. At least a dozen convertswere wonin those services

She joined the technical team from Abeka at the convention andhelped them take downand set up equipment everytime it was needed. In the process she establishedgoodfriendships and learned a lot ofculture. Kim was a fresh, young breeze blowing through our lives. We areglad she cameNEW WELL AT T H E NEW CAMPUS
