Last week, Limpopo MEC for health, Dr. Norman Mabasa, paid visits to the Mokopane-, George Masebe- and Voor-trekker Hospitals in the Mogalakwena area after complaints from Mokopane residents over patients being turned down due to lack of medicines and broken medical instruments.

The MEC’s visit also forms part of an effort to ensure provision of quality healthcare in public hospitals. Poor service levels at these hospitals were highlighted earlier this year when four babies died due to staff shortages at the George Masebe hospital.

Following these deaths health minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, released a report outlining how medical doctors tend to take unauthorised leave and report for work late.

The detailed report came after a task team was appointed following the death of the four children on the January 1. Motsoaledi said one of the discoveries is that doctors do not sign the attendance register.

“Attendance during hours is un-

regulated with doctors reporting for duty after 09:00. The leave system is poorly managed, and medical staff takes leave without recommendation by the senior clinical manager or by the CEO.”

Department spokesperson Snenhlanhla Gumede said the MEC’s visit was also aimed at ensuring the recommendations made by the national department after the

fatalities were being implemented. The MEC visited the Voortrekker Hospital, on Friday where unfortunately, the media was denied access.

His department also failed to respond to questions from Northern News regarding the lack of medicine, medical equipment, refusal to admit patients or offer certain services after hours and also poor food

when patients actually do receive meals from the hospital.

Northern News has also run reports where doctors actually take food to their patients because the hospital simply didn’t feed its patients.

This week Phuti Sebola, health and social development spokesperson told a Mokopane radio station the fact that the x-ray section at Voortrekker hospital does not work after hours is because professional officers and radiographers are demanding overtime payments, which the department is now considering.

Report 191 Engineering students at FET Col-leges all over the country are frustrated with the delay in the release of their April 2013 results. This follows following nation-wide investigations into irregularities relating to papers and marking guidelines.

The chief directorate of national exami-nations and assessment of the department of higher education and training (DHET) has not yet released any results for any subject written during April 2013. It says it is still wrapping up processes regarding incidents that impacted on the integrity of the examina-tions, before results can be released.

A source at the Lephalale campus told Northern News that many students in all Colleges were caught out with memoran-dums of different subjects prior to, and during the writing of the examinations, leading to investigations and the subsequent delay in

FET students still waiting on resultsreleasing the results.

A recent memorandum from DHET to Colleges allows students to register for four new offerings (subjects) this trimester, on the understanding that a student will only be certificated on the higher level once the subjects for the lower level have all been successfully completed. This means that a student may continue with subjects on the next level if s/he expects to have passed the subjects for the first trimester on the lower level, but should s/he fail, these subject/s will have to be rewritten and passed before a pass in the next level would be acknowledged.

FET Lephalale SRC president, Sidney Matlhare, was not available for comment, but a student told Northern News: “We received an SMS from the HOD saying that we must come and register without our results. They said that it is for us to decide if we want to remain in the same class or want to move for-ward,” he added.

Following the discovery of cocaine worth more than R18-million at the Beit Bridge Border Post on Saturday, a stash of heroine was discovered in a false com-partment in the bag of a Tanzanian man on Sunday after he entered the country from the Zimbabwean side.

A member of the border police sta-tioned at the border post was searching the luggage of a 38-year old Tanzanian man when he realised that one of the bags has a false compartment.

The compartment was opened and a substance was found inside. It was tested and found to be a total of 2,2kg of heroine with an estimated value of R2,64 million. The suspect was arrested and will appear in court soon on charges of smuggling and possession of drugs.

Also on Sunday, a 46 year old man from Zimbabwe was arrested after he was caught attempting to transport seven bat-teries belonging to cell phone companies in South Africa.

It is suspected that these batteries were stolen from cell phone towers at several places in South Africa. The bat-

teries, to the value of R26 560 as well as the vehicle used to transport them, were seized by members of the Police.

In another success story, a 38-year old South African man was arrested along the N1 between Musina and Beit Bridge when his vehicle was stopped by K9 members and searched. Inside they discovered 17 master boxes of cigarettes to the value of R162 500. The suspect was arrested and the vehicle confis-cated.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lt Gen Simon Mpembe, congratulated the observant members of the border-line police at for their vigilance and dedication in brining the suspect to book.

The Commissioner also stressed that drug abuse is becoming an increasing problem in the province, as it is nationally, and that the Police will do everything in their power to arrest and stop the suspects who are supplying and feeding those already trapped in the hell of drug usage.

Hoewel lede van die Lephalale polisie teenwoordig was, was eienaars bekommerd oor hulle eie veiligheid en ook die van hulle kliёnte.

POLOKWANE – A 36-year old Congolese citizen appeared in the Musina Magistrates’ Court on Monday after he was found smuggling cocaine worth more than R18-million through the Beit Bridge Border Post into South Africa.

The drugs were discovered during a routine search of tra-veller’s bags. A warrant officer searching the bag of the suspect found spools with yarn inside the bag and found them to be excep-tionally heavy.

The help of the police’s K9 Unit was called in and the sniffer dog reacted positively. The yarns were rolled from the rollers and a white substance inside plastic bags was removed. The cocaine found weighed a total of 10,8kgs with an estimated value of R12 000 000.

Further inspection on the bag revealed a false compart-ment in which more cocaine was confiscated. It weighed a total of 5,2kg with an estimated value of R6, 4-million.

Man found dead in garageA 63-year-old man from Onverwacht was found hanging from the roof trusses of his garage on Sunday morning. According to the police report the man went to bed along with his wife on Saturdy evening, but when she woke up in the early hours of Sunday, he was not in bed. She searched for him around the house and when she looked in the garage she found his body hanging from the roof.

Life sentence for rapeA 28-year-old man from Shongoane has been sentenced to life imprisonment at the Lephalale regional court after he was found guilty on two counts of rape.

Moseki Hezekiel Shiko appeared in court on Tuesday and was sentenced to 10 years on one count and a life sentence was passed on the second count of rape.

Both cases stem from separate incidents in March 2011 when he com-mitted his crimes. Both victims were 18 years old at the time and one of them is said to be mentally handicapped.

The initial case was opened at the Villa Nora Police station.

Stolen items to the value of R80 500 have been recovered at nearby scrap metal dealers and at Sekgakgapeng village. Between 20 December, last year and 2 January this yeasr the two burled a storage room in the industrial area and stole furniture while the owners were away on a holiday.

On their arrival they were informed that there were two guys who came to clean the place as it was bought by the new owners.

The police were informed and followed on information received which led to the arrest of the two Kruger sons.

14 February 2013 regar-ding the proposed tariffs based on the 2013/2014 IPD Review Meeting. “Sadly none of our objections were taken into consideration, and it can only be assumed that meetings were held as fronts of obeying the legislative procedure without taking comments into account in any way. We are still awaiting the follow-up meeting as promised at the Review meeting.”

In its response the municipality addressed various issues that were clearly communicated to it directly by the Business Chamber, but was never shared with the Northern News. In addressing these issues, the municipality says there will be a R105-million [deficit] in 2013/14 and this money will be used as follows: Eskom upgrade - R5-million, servicing Ext 13 - R9- million, refurbishing maturation ponds - R15-million, 2 x 5 ML sewer plants - R56-million, new office exten-sions - R10-million, water meters for ext 19 - R6-million and phola park water meters - R3-million.

The remainder has not been committed but will be available for some unforeseen or emergency projects.

The municipality concluded saying it does not believe tariff increases are unreasonable.

“National Treasury is the overseer of all munic-ipal tariffs. Tariffs will only be adjusted if National Treasury is of the opinion that tariffs are unbearable and unrealistic.”

“If the Lephalale Development Forum (LDF) did not exist, the challenges with water supply, infrastructure, sanitation and other communal issues [in Lephalale] may have turned into crises with detrimental impact on our communities.” This was part of a response given this week by the LDF to an open letter written by the Chairperson of the Lephalale Business Forum (LBF), Justice Ledwaba recently.

In the letter Ledwaba accuses the LDF of priva-tising the Municipality; he also calls for the immediate resignation of the Municipal Manager, Bob Naidoo, who according to him is serving big private companies instead of the local community.

In a statement released on Monday, the LDF lamented the approach the LBF took in raising its concerns. “The tone of the letter and in particular the personal attack on individuals and companies is unfortunate as it only serves to harm relationships established over many months.”

In an attempt to answer some of the issues raised in the open letter the LDF opted to give a historical back-ground of the forum and relay some of its successes.

According to the statement, the forum was established in 2008 when it became clear that the construction of Eskom’s Medupi power station and the expansion of Exxaro’s Grootegeluk mine would bring with it many challenges to a municipality of a once small community. The statement added that despite commendable work and effort on the part of the Municipal Manager, Bob Naidoo, and his team, the growth of the Municipality lagged the growth of the town. It subsequently became necessary for the Municipality to rely on support from private companies to address these issues.

The LDF was therefore formed by various stake-holders who saw the need for a platform to discuss different strategies to address urgent local develop-ment tasks.

“The LDF doesn’t execute or fund any projects, it however identifies the community needs and then influences various role players to address these needs through the execution of integrated projects to the benefit of the communities.”

In response to the LBF’s complaint that many of the projects are driven by companies outside of Lephalale the LDF said that the forum cannot get involved with procurement processes. “There are official procure-ment policies in these companies and the necessary transformation is being managed within these poli-cies, which are ultimately governed within the laws

While the Mogalakwena municipality can boast that it is one of only a few municipalities in South Africa that is still solvent, community leaders feel the municipality is unnecessarily placing Mokopane’s residents under financial pressure.

The Mokopane Business Chamber says that the municipality has realised a R94-million surplus last year which it did not bring into account in its income budget for the 2013/14 financial year.

“The municipality is supposed to use the surplus money as a starting point for the new budget,” said Piet de Bruyn, Chartered Accountant and member of the Mokopane Business Chamber. He notes that this requirement is stipulated in the Municipal Finance Management Act.

“Why are surpluses not used as a source to lessen tariff increases?” he asked. “The municipality exceeds its budgeted figures every year. There is a definite pattern of over budgeting in the Mogalak-wena Municipality. The paying consumers of this municipality are footing the bill for this and based on the Fourth IDP Representative Meeting, will be coughing up for overbudgeting again in the year to come.”

In a letter addressed to the Municipal Manager, William Kekana, it was said the increase from property rates is 17.96%. This is a clear indication that the property rates are too high. “We cannot accept that our tariffs for water are the highest in Limpopo. The number of paying consumers within the municipal area cannot afford to subsidise all the indigents in our municipality,” de Bruyn lamented

He said the Chamber has written letters dated from 31 October 2012 and a follow-up letter on

The LDF responds to Business-forum allegations

of the country.” The LDF further calls on the LBF to organise themselves to be able to become registered vendors at these companies so as to become preferred suppliers through the tender process.

“The LDF does not get involved in these private processes, but do try and influence these compa-nies to support local companies. The number of local sub-contractors and local labour that have been accommodated in the major contracts is massive.”

According to the statement the LDF is ulti-mately accountable to the Provincial Cabinet, via its approved governance structures and has been hailed as an example to other areas of high growth in SA by the Government. The chairman of the LDF was invited to do a presentation to Parliament late last year on the achievements and lessons learned in the LDF and how these could be used to the benefit of other similar developing communities in South Africa.

But what has the LDF achieved thus far? Is its ex-istence only benefiting big private companies as suggested by the LBF or is it genuinely looking out for the local community?

According to its statement the LDF claims to be a credible vehicle for the representation of all the varied stakeholders in Lephalale, ultimately creating a stable environment which has in turn given confidence to investment houses to make investments into the community.

“With the support of the major stakeholders and in particular Exxaro and Eskom, the LDF has coordinated the delivery of over R350 million of projects ranging from sewage works to Reading Initiatives for kids. The LDF has been instrumental in successfully facilitating these projects across the board over the past five years, and the various communities have most definitely benefited immensely from these projects. Each and every contract has a local development component to it and this has resulted in benefit to all communities, including skills development and job creation.”

The LDF is adamant that it is truly a community focused partnership for the benefit of the communi-ties and says it is proud of its achievements under the leadership and vision of the management team of the Lephalale Local Municipality.

The sub-regional chairperson of the ANCYL, Solly Kekae, added his voice in support of Ledwaba this week saying in a statement that the youth of Lephalale is not benefiting from the development in Lephalale. They also called for the disbanding of the LDF and the resignation of Bob Naidoo.

Eco-School Steps up to sustainabilityfocus, always looking for ways to improve the social conditions around her school commu-nity. Unemployment in Tshamahansi village is high and many women approach the school to volunteer their time and also to seek ideas and support from Ruth.

When Ruth learned about the Won-derbag, a pumpkin shaped, polystyrene stuffed fabric bag

which uses the principle of insulated (heat retention) cooking to save energy, she decided that it would be a fantastic way to continue the theme of energy saving by teaching some of the local unemployed women and several learners how to sew these for sale.

Ruth set aside a Saturday morning to teach these women how to make the Wonderbag, herself having taken the oppor-tunity to be trained in making them a week earlier. At the end of the day they had made four bags and they were all sold the next day to women at Ruths’ church.

A school classroom has been set aside to utilise as a sewing room and two sewing machines have been set up. Many more orders have come in for the Wonderbags and Ruth and her team are looking for additional sewing machines and an overlocker. Materials are sourced locally.

The hotbox or Wonderbag as it is commonly known works on the simple insula-tory principle that if you keep the heat that is used to cook food, no replacement heat is necessary to complete the cooking process. Apart from saving energy used in cooking and time spent at the stove, it is used to transport and continue cooking your food, as a p l a t e - w a r m e r

keeping plates perfectly hot in the dining room, the garden or on the beach, it is a cooler box which is ideal for keeping drinks ice cold and storing ice, an incubation chamber for the making of foods like yoghurt and breads. But more importantly and in line with a greener alternative that speaks to sustainability, the Wonderbag benefits communities through:

Î Improved air quality in homes reducing smoke from cooking fires

Î Reduced risk of shack fires caused by paraffin stoves

Î Households can save around 50% of energy used for cooking. The resultant cost savings empower communities by increasing the cash available for discre tionary expenses.

Î Tasty, nutritious meals which can be prepared ahead of time

Î Reduced food wastage as food cannot burn or overcook.

Î The cooling properties allow people dependant on public transport to bring their food purchases home before it spoils.

Î The manufacturing process creates jobs and develops skills

Î With regular use, a Wonderbag can avoid one ton of carbon emissions every two years.

Î Reduced total community demand for wood as fuel in rural areas promotes forest regrowth and biodiversity.

Î Polystyrene is reused instead of dumped in landfill areas. ( courtesy of Hazel Lake – WESSA)

Should anyone be willing to assist with donating a sewing machine or purchasing a Wonderbag which comes with full instruc-tions on use, a few recipes and cooking times then please contact Ruth on 082 678 2490..

‘n Mens is so oud soos jy voel.

Tannie Mart kan gebel word by 015 491 4961.

Struggle hero celebrated in MokuruanyaneTebogo Tlhako ([email protected])

It is almost ten years since the death of struggle hero, Captain Nkebe Jimmy Thu-lare, who was brutally gunned down in front of his home in Mamelodi in May 2004. This weekend celebrations in Mokuruanyane village took place at Lep-halale Thusong center to commemorate his death.

Thulare lived in Lephalale but had a

house in Mamelodi where he was employed, leading the SACP branch there and also serving on the executive committee of the ANC at Tlapaleborethe village.

Jimmy Thulare, 38, Jeffrey Shabangu, 18, E Langa, 48, and Yvonne Manasi, 19, were shot and killed when three men went on a crime spree in Mamelodi East. Thulare was shot while walking home past Vista University.

Two weeks later The Star reported on the arrest of two of the alleged shooters who, according to police, went on the rampage be-

cause they were bored. The weekend’s act of remembrance was

hosted by ANC Lephalale sub region to celebrate Thulare’s commitment with honour and solem-nity.

Activities of the day started with a visit to Thulare’s grave as well as political speeches.

Delivering a welcoming address, Lepha-lale Mayor Jack Maeko, requested everyone to emulate Thulare’s selflessness and commitment.

“The ANC needs comrades of the Captian’s calibre now more than ever,” he said.

Fresh from a clean audit report by the Auditor General, Mogalakwena Municipality is rewarded again by

obtaining position ONE in the province for being a Greenest Municipality in Limpopo. The town’s entry was a project in Mahwelereng where the municipality and the local community worked together to turn a dumping site into a park.

The municipality is responsible for ensuring that healthy, safe and sustainable environmental management practices are created and maintained in its area of authority when delivering basic services to residents as per the powers and functions entrusted upon it by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

As a means to promote and implement environmental sustainability the munici-pality participated in a provincial Greenest Municipality Competition (GMC) whose aim is to promote environmental sustain-ability at Local Government level. All 25 local municipalities of the province took part in the 2012/2013 competition.

The competition is a national pro-

gramme where each District winner competes at Provincial level after which the Provincial champions compete at National level. Mogalakwena Municipality will therefore represent the province in the national competition.

The executive management of Mogala-kwena Municipality took the decision to participate in the competition with the intension of receiving independent views from panellists of the competition about the municipality‘s performance in relation to waste management, water management and conservation, energy management and conservation, landscaping, tree planting and beautification and tourism, institutional arrangements and public participation and education about environmental management. These are the elements on which Municipalities are assessed when participating in the GMC.

“We are honoured by the presence of representatives from different media houses this morning. Journalists are very important people in our society in terms of educating and passing information to the general populace. I honestly believe that we must do this from time to time.

We have decided to place the media in the forefront as we want to build a good relationship with you that will improve communication with communities and stakeholders in our municipality through the media. This Media Networking Session is meant to find ways and means of effective communication between us and yourselves.

We are aware that some of the publications here at times they don’t publish our stories especially those which are positive and they will be the first to publish negative stories without communicating with us.

We are not here to point fingers at each other, we want to appreciate the major role that you are playing in publicizing our achievements, municipal programmes etc. I humbly request that everything should be reported accurately and be communicated correctly whether the matter is right or wrong.

MOGALAKWENA MUNICIPALITY

The assessment report indicates the following as the areas of strength for the municipality: Waste management, Waste collection system which leads to clean Towns and Townships, Management of waste disposal facilities, Good working relations with the stakeholders in particular business forums and community structures and Extension of waste management services to rural areas through EPWP programme.

Energy conservation: Retrofitting of households with energy saving bulbs in partnership with Eskom, Setting of energy saving mechanisms in the municipal

The Mogalakwena Local Municipality (MLM) has done it again. The municipality has

received an Unqualified Audit Report from the Auditor General, Mr Terence Nombembe for the third year in a row. The Reports truly reflect the state of the municipality’s finances for the 2009/2010, 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 financial years.

An unqualified audit report demonstra-tes that the audited entity appears to be in compliance with accepted accounting practices. An auditor writes this opinion after reviewing the financial statements and concluding that the evidence points to the organizations compliance with these practices.

An audit that results in an unqualified audit report is commonly referred to as a clean audit. An “unqualified” audit signals a clean report, wherein no discrepancies were found with the financial statements or paperwork. Shedding some light on that feat, the MLM Municipal Manager Mr Shella Willy Kekana said, “You will recall that the Government, under the leadership of President Jacob Zuma identified the state of local government finances as one of its primary priorities for the year 2010.”

“In July 2009, the then Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Sicelo Shiceka, launched Operation Clean Audit 2014. The objective is to ensure that by the year 2014 all 283 municipalities should obtain clean audits and that all provincial departments and all related government institutions in all the nine provinces should achieve clean audits.

“We are thus proud to report that Waterberg District’s largest Municipality, the flagship of our economy, investment tourism and culture has achieved this goal well in advance of the deadline and we have proven that we can sustain it. Some contributing factors towards this the achievement is that we always follow the Municipal Finance Management Act

(MFMA and we comply with the Supply Chain Management (SCM). The hard work we are putting is really paying off.

“It is my strongest believe that all managers must be capacitated to observe the implementation of the policies when procuring goods and services. The politicians within the municipality should not and are not allowed to participate in the procurement processes,” said Kekana.

“The Administration must monitor the quality of the goods and services that are provided by the service providers. Risk management is a critical element when it comes to obtaining Unqualified Audit Opinion. We have strengthened the capacity of Internal Audit Unit to ensure that there are internal controls in place within the municipality,” continued Kekana. Confidently Kekana said: “The success of these achievements will no doubt strengthen investors’ confidence and enable Mogalakwena to improve its credit ratings. The residents and the business community of Mogalakwena will reap the benefits through increased investment resulting in creation of employment opportunities and strengthening the ability of the municipality to deliver quality services and implement key initiatives.” “This Unqualified Audit Opinions is a victory for all the people of Mogalakwena i.e residents, ratepayers, business community, all civil society organisations and communities. We will continue to lift the bar and strive for a Clean Audit Report but the Council of the municipality must play a role in assisting that achievement.

“MPAC must also play its role in terms of providing oversight over the Executive and Management. For us as a municipality to achieve the Clean Audit Opinion we must deal with the outstanding issues which occurred after the 2011 local government elections” he said. “Team work amongst officials and management in particular serves as a cornerstone of their success. Dedication of the finance department in particular the (CFO) has a lot to do with our achievement over the years,” complemented Kekana.

Kekana indicated that service delivery

This was for the first time in the history of the competition in the province since 2008 where a provincial champion was from another district as Mopani district has been dominating the competition provincially since the competition was introduced in the province.

Speech by Mogalakwena Mayor CLLR Tlhalefi Mashamaite during the media networking session and announcements of the AwardsPeople out there can think that our municipality has not achieved much, it is through this type of gatherings that we are able to outline what has been achieved. We need each other in our day-to-day duties and we have to find a common purpose to work with each other in peace and harmony, but maintaining each others’ objectivity.

Those of you who were not part of our Intergrated Development Plan (IDP)/ Budget Mayoral Road Show last month where I was accompanied by the EXCO members, Councilors, Section 56 Managers and other officials, I am very pleased to announce that for the 2013/14 financial year the municipality has budgeted R1, 037,132,156.00: R378, 248, 544.00 for Capital Budget and R658, 833, 612, 00 or Operational Budget.

During the consultations in all the 179 villages of Mogalakwena Municipality including new Villlage, Mozumbana chief amongst service delivery issues that were raised were shortage of water and electrification at the new stands/village extensions, allocation of RDP houses, construction of Clinics and schools, roads & storm water control, jobs, sanitation,

monitoring of projects, de-bushing and installation of (High Mast Lights).

Even though there are some community members who acknowledged the services provided by the municipality we were surprised that there are some who did not acknowledge the services we provided.

However, we are aware that of all the villages which are without electricity and water in the new stands and we are also aware that 90% of Mogalakwena residents have made illegal water connections. It is the reason sometimes some communities will go for days without water. Measures are put in place to attend to these problems since our water tankers are proving water at our extended villages.

For 2013/14 financial year our municipality has budgeted R60 million for Olifants River Water Resource Development Project, the municipality will source water from Flag Boshielo Dam which will supply the whole municipality with water. There will be more mining activities in our municipality, water is an essential need for mining and more job opportunities will be created.

For the coming financial year, we further budgeted R12 million to electrify some of our extensions in villages like Blinkwater, Vergenog, Lekhureng, Senita, Teberious, Rebone RDP Extensions etc.

Some of you as are driving around our municipality you are able to see that we are surrounded by mountains and it is not surprising our roads are washed away by water which also creates dongas on our gravel roads. Currently the technicians are drawing a storm water master plan which will give direction in terms of storm water control.

This year in February, we met with Roads and Transport MEC Mr Pitsi Moloto where we have agreed that the task team will be established to identify the roads that should be tarred in this provincial financial year. As we are seated here this morning the task team is busy identifying those roads.

In this provincial financial year the Limpopo Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements

and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) will build 700 houses in all our villages. On the shortage of schools and clinics we are engaging with relevant departments as these services do not fall within our core mandate. Changing the tune now, some of the 53rd National Conference of the African National Congress (ANC) Mangaung Resolutions is the great strides made by government to communicate with citizens in a transparent and accountable manner through a whole range of mechanisms including quarterly and annual reports, parliamentary programmes, regular cabinet briefings, print and online publications. The Government’s ability to communicate with citizens is critical in the delivery of services, deepening democracy and the ability of citizens to interact with government.

Government is one of the biggest advertising spenders. The 53rd ANC’s National Conference further resolved that all spheres of government should advertise in the community and small commercial media that produce media in the languages spoken by communities, to assist with media transformation and diversity, and the

sustenance and growth of these media. It was resolved that government must diversify its ad spent to empower community, emerging commercial and public media.

Now for the moment we have been waiting for, it is with great excitement to officially announce that Mogalakwena Municipality, “A Place for Prosperity” is the winners of the Limpopo Greenest Municipality Award, we will be competing with eight provinces at the national level.

Once again it is with great pleasure to announce that our municipality has received an Unqualified Audit Opinion from the Auditor General of South Africa, Terence Nombembe three consecutive years. The Report truly reflects the state of the municipal’s finances is in good hands, credit must be given to our Municipal Council, the man who proved many doubting Thomases wrong our Municipal Manager Willy Kekana, his entire team from top to bottom and the for the role they played in these achievements.

We hope this gathering will strengthen our relationship.

I thank you all, Ke le leboga ka moka go tla kopanong. ”

Wie is ’n Christen?

Wil jy by hulle wees?

Traditional dancing, Music and Choir singing could be heard far away as

the community gave thanks for their new asset which they stated would be used on many occasions in the future. Other CSI projects that have been proudly completed by Lephalale Site Services are the complete refurbishing of the Seleka Community Hall, Donation of 500 chairs to the Seleka Community, Shongoane Community Hall has been completely refurbished and 300 chairs donated for community functions and meetings;Building of a four roomed house in Seleka for an elderly man who had lived in a tent

for the past seven years. A highlight of the day’s events and cel-ebrations was the donation of five cattle to the five traditional leaders. This special event was graced by the presence of LSS clients, suppliers, com-munity leaders, the community and employees who contributed to this mem-orable event as well as Government Officials, The LBBF, SAPS, Delegates from the departments of Health, Social Services, local Government and Housing, Municipal Councillors and the Civil So-ciety.

LEPHALALE

The 15th May 2013 marked a historic occasion for the local Community in

the Lephalale region of Abbotspoort. Lephalale Site Services, the Food Ser-vice provider of some 20,000 daily meals at the Medupi Power Station construction site and Marapong Contractors Village, embarked on a meaningful Corporate So-cial Investment program in 2012 that has benefitted the lives of the surrounding vil-lages of Lephalale. This day celebrated the completion of the CSI projects with the official opening of the Abbottspoort (Mokuronyane) Community Hall, built and Sponsored by Lephalale Site services. The Hall was opened by Mr. Andrew St Clair- Laing, Chairman of Lephalale Site Services and Chief K.D Langa of the Mapela nation. The day was marked by speeches of thanks and inspiration from the Tradi-tional Authorities, such as Chief Seleka, Chief Langa, Chief Shongoane, Chief Ledwaba, Chief Taueatsoala. There was also an address to the community by Chief Magistrate Miss Phoko Base. Lephalale Site Services has had much success with their commitment to mean-ingful BBBEE and Community Social development and realises that these initiatives are driven by their intimate in-volvement within the Waterberg area. Local directors Justice Ledwaba, Sam Sekanka and Philip Dikgale have been instrumental in matching the need of the community and the CSI spend of Lepha-lale Site Services. The partnership A greement between Fedics and MoonCloud 44 was reviewed and signed in the presence of the commu-nity. Real transformation has taken place with Moon Cloud becoming the majority shareholders of this business relationship. Some 300 employees on the Medupi Project, servicing the Food requirements
