IN THE SUMMER OF 2011 I INTERNED FOR A FAIR TRADE COMPANY NAMED WORLDFINDS. THIS HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE THOROUGHLY EXPOSED ME TO MANY ASPECTS OF BUSINESS. HERE I UTILIZED MY PUBLIC RELATIONS SKILLS TO PREPARE PRESS MATERIALS AND WRITE PITCH LETTERS FOR THE MEDIA. I ALSO GAINED KNOWLEDGE OF PROCESSING ORDERS AND THE INTRICACIES OF WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT. OFF-SITE EXPERIENCE INCLUDED WORK AT A TRADE SHOW AND A CATALOG PHOTO SHOOT.

SMILE FOR THE CAMERA Look good and know youre helping people around the worldthat doesnt sound too bad. As the new WorldFinds intern, Im learning quickly that fair trade really does have style. It also has glitz and glam, stylish bracelets, rings your friends will want for themselves, and great knit wear. This world of fair trade is new to me. I absolutely adore the idea that making a positive impact doesnt necessarily mean giving up the things you love. Improving the world can be a daunting concept, but fair trade companies make it easy to help. WorldFinds brings together the haves and the have nots in a way that everyone can have what they want. Artisans in India, New Deli, and Bali get improved living standards; you get wonderful handmade accessories. Win-win, right? As the intern I have obviously been put to work. My first big project was assisting the photo shoot for the WorldFinds upcoming (stylish) fall collection. Who would have thought there was so much that goes into all those magazines that are stuffed in your mailbox? There is makeup, models, a talented photographer, and the perfect outfit to match the accessories. Then you need the right lightening, a scenic background, and a cute pose. Dont forget to snap a picture of every accessory in every color. And take what feels like 100 shots of each to ensure each fair trade item looks fabulous. But the best part of WorldFinds being a fair trade company is that during the 10 hours of getting the perfect shots, you know it is to help make a difference for women and children half way across the world. Not to mention, it was fun too. I didnt know that my intern responsibilities would include modeling. There were two great models, but I got to sport a grass green hat, scarf, and gloves and smile for the camera. For the fashionistas out there, you are going to adore the upcoming collection. That is, once the catalog is put together. The photo shoot was only the first step. Now there is shorting through the photos and making layouts before you all can peek at the kantha clutches, sari bags, chandelier earrings, and really great cuff bracelets. But in the winter trudging through the snow wont be as bad, because youll have a stylish knit hat and knowledge that because youre wearing it someones life is better. This intern survived her first photo shoot and will be sticking around WorldFinds for the summer. After all, I do have to see if my modeling picture makes the finished catalog. Look for the brown haired girl in a green hat! - Kelsey

THE LIFE OF A SARI They say everyone has a story. Well, now your accessories do too. The fabric each of our sari accessories is sewn from has traveled many miles and lived a life on an Indian woman in the far-off country. The colorful, gemmed bags and accessories sold at WorldFinds are made from recycled saris. For you it is new, but the life of a sari is an ancient tale. The style of this traditional Indian garment has transcended centuries, adorned millions of women, and come to be an art form of sorts.

A folktale whimsically describes the origin of this historic fabric:

The Sari, it is said, was born on the loom of a fanciful weaver. He dreamt of Woman. The shimmer of her tears. The drape of her tumbling hair. The colors of her many moods. The

softness of her touch. All these he wove together. He couldn't stop. He wove for many yards. And when he was done, the story goes, he sat back and smiled and smiled and smiled.

And from that point onas far back as 100 BC in factthe Indian culture has kept weaving. Each sari your WorldFinds treasure is made from has lived under the Indian sun in a culture uniquely distinct from your own. Then women artisans for a fair trade organization in India give the saris a whole new life by handcrafting them into items for you.

WorldFinds brings a little piece of Indian culture to you in the form of a bag, headband, luggage tag, or clutch. Its a way to not only buy fair trade but buy a story as well. And like all WorldFinds products, it is a way that ensures a better livelihood for women and children around the world.

The life of each sari hasnt ended. Continue its story in your store today. Please visit http://www.worldfinds.com/Shop/Eco-Friendly - Kelsey

HANG UP A LITTLE GOOD CHEER There are certain things about the holidays that will never change. There are always the yummy cookies, holiday lights, and (here in Chicago) way too much snow. But the holidays have always been so much more than what is under your tree or what is exchanged on one of the eight nights of Hanukkah. Its simple; the holiday season is about giving back to those less fortunate. And this year you can give back and have a great looking tree all in one. Talk about spreading some good cheer. By making a purchase from WorldFinds Holiday Ornament Collection you will be helping improve the living conditions of women artisans near New Delhi, India. Make hanging a handmade ornament on your tree more than just a recycled sari turned into a star or a cute little golden retriever. This year it can mean employment for a mother half way across the world and a meal for her children. In addition to recycled sari and animal ornaments already in WorldFinds collection, we are introducing an endearing new line of animals. Bird-lover and dog-lovers everywhere will adore one of these fair trade ornaments on their trees. Theres a beagle, a husky, a bulldog, and moreall with silver or gold cording and some with sequin embellishment. So remind yourself what the holidays are really about. How there is more to the Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or any holiday than just what you have. Decorate your tree with the sea lion ornament and remind yourself of how fortunate you are. Tie a blue jay ornament onto a gift and know youve done something meaningful this holiday season. Purchase from the WorldFinds Holiday Ornament Collection and make these holidays joyous for everyone. Have a great holiday season, WorldFinds

    MUCH MORE

For you its a knit hat; for a child in Nepal its an opportunity to attend elementary school.

Theyre another warm pair of crochet gloves in your closet; theyre a job for an uneducated woman.

You wrap yourself in a long, warm scarf; an orphanage in the Asian country supports 19

    children.

As you can see the knitwear you buy from WorldFinds is much more than just knitwear. You are changing for the better the lives of the people involved in the Kumbeshwar Technical School in Nepal. Know how your fair trade purchase is a gift of hope and opportunity: Nepal is a small, landlocked sovereign country in South Asia. Bordering both China and India, it is home to a rich geographic landscape ranging from the tall peak of Mount Everest to lowland plains. Within the picturesque landscape lives a population of over 29,000,000 peoplewhere 1/3 of the men and 2/3 of the women are illiterate. It is a people whose federal republic government is in political deadlock and who still feel the effects of the ancient caste system. But it is also home to organizations giving hope and opportunity. The Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS)whose craftspeople produce WorldFinds knitwear helps socially and economically support deprived people. The fair trade, non-profit, and non-governmental organization follows a motto we here in the United States may take for granted: Equal Opportunity for All Know your fair trade purchase is much more than just a purchase. It is helping KTS positively affect Nepal through a free primary school, child care center, orphan home, vocational training, and income generating programs. When you purchase knitwear from WorldFinds you are helping the 210 children in the Nepal school learning to read and write, the 19 kids in the orphanage, the 579 knitters who have a better life because of you, and many more. The organization provides training for knitting, carpet weaving, and carpentry trainingexperience for a better life many Nepalese would not otherwise get. Here in the United States it is hard to imagine a life like that of Kisaan Chepang. He is a two year old from Terse, Taklung in Nepal. This community living in a cave in the remote hills of the jungle is far from the conditions even the poorest of our children experience. He lost his father, and his mother could not take care of him. But the KTS orphanage took him in, and now your knitwear purchases mean opportunity for a brighter future.

When you support WorldFinds, it may just seem like another purchase. But it is so much more. You are purchasing hope for children like Kisaan Chepang and opportunity for many more at the Kumbeshwar Technical School in Nepal.
