Holden’s engineering team has been recruited to help fine-tune the stunning new mid-sized Malibu that will go on sale in Australia late next year. Engineers from Holden’s Powertrain Engineering team are currently calibrating the Malibu for GM’s global markets, where it will play an important role in the Chevrolet portfolio.
The Malibu is being calibrated at Holden’s Lang Lang Proving Ground in Victoria and is also being evaluated on public roads. It has been pictured at the coastal resort town of Phillip Island.
Holden’s work forms part of GM’s global workshare strategy, which uses the available resources and skills of the company’s engineers from around the world to perform development work on future model cars. It will see the team continue to work on Malibu until the end of 2012.
About Holden Malibu Holden will bring the Malibu nameplate to Australia for the first time in late 2012 with a line-up of fuel efficient and responsive four cylinder engines. Outside Australia, it will be sold under the Chevrolet name in nearly 100 countries around the world.

Kia Motors Australia has entered the SPACE race with the completion of the first of a multi-million dollar corporate identity roll-out for the company's 124 dealerships.
Thomson Kia, at Parramatta, is one of the first dealerships in the world and certainly is Australia’s first dealership to display the new Kia corporate look _ dubbed SPACE and will be joined this year by another 35 of KMAu's key Metropolitan and Provincial dealerships. The extensive Australia-wide project is scheduled to be completed within four years.
"This is the first time we have had a completely integrated solution to the corporate identity of our dealerships and is just another reflection of Kia's commitment to getting it right all across the board," KMAu Chief Operating Officer, Tony Barlow, said.
"Our cars are winning widespread praise and the SPACE program is one more way of enhancing the new car experience for our growing family of customers."
The SPACE concept encompasses a fresh restyling of the dealerships from the exterior fascia, the furniture and design of the showroom and customer welcome areas through to the service area.
The Dealer Principal of Thomson KIA David Webster added “The showroom
What do you think about Australia’s newest
KIA blasts off in SPACE raceKIA dealership in Parramatta NSW?
emulates the design and characteristics of KIA cars, clean lines, state of the art technologies in their cars, (the showroom) designed to highlight their vehicles as well. The showroom is a clean, uncluttered and spacious design. When people walk in and they can really notice the cars in the showroom, it is of clean white colour, it really highlight the cars.
We have here a joint lounge for vehicle servicing customers as well as purchasing customers as well. If the customers are waiting for their cars to be serviced, they can enjoy the same lounge area for the potential purchasing customers. They can see the new cars, pick up a brochure and sit in new vehicles, interacting with the new products. The design of the showroom deliberately exposes servicing customers to newer models, so that they can see the difference and consider their own vehicles and the latest products on the market”.
The SPACE Thomson KIA showroom is located at 45-47 Church Street, Parramatta, just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Parramatta - one of the busiest train stations and culturally diverse inner western suburb of Sydney.Kia's 124 dealerships across Australia cover metropolitan, provincial and country areas in a comprehensive service network.
There are 43 dealerships in NSW, 29 in Queensland, 25 in Victoria, 13 in Western Australia, 11 in South Australia, two in Tasmania and one in Darwin.

Few people talk about what the real Optima looks like, some says it looks like a SAAB, because it has a very strong European favour. I disagree because it has an unique European style rather than just belonging to a famous European brand. It is a new creation.
A lot of people know that Hyundai i45 and KIA Optima share something together. I would say apart from the chassis, engine, gear box and basic safety electronic equipments, their similarity just stops there. The Optima has it uniqueness. It has a unique European flair, with smooth lines, board flanks, high shoulder line, large 18inches disc styled alloy wheel with low profile tyres, trendy LED daytime running lights and a much focused Kia corporate signature tiger grille that is poised to bit. More importantly, it has a special theme in its design language that just takes care of every of its layout aspects, which is simply noticeable inside out the car. The Optima sets the trend rather than just following it. The car was designed in its German design studio with a lot of input from its Californian studio for its interior, and was being produced in South Korea.
Interior atmosphereWhen I get into the car, there is that unique elegant and ambient feel lingering around. The leather wrapped steer wheel with paddle shifter is nice, it is complimented with telescopic and tilt adjustable function. The 8 way electric adjustable leather seat is nice and comes with enjoyable cool ventilating and heated function that is normally only available previously from $200K upward prestige brands. The spacious panoramic sunroof compliments the status of the car and gives the car a lot of nature lights. It has dual zone climate air conditioning as well. The instrument panel and central console have been

rigged towards the driver that comes in handy to adjust things, but the wood trim is not a good idea. I personally prefer black carbon fibre type of trim as it goes with the more aggressive outlook. I believe black exterior will sell very well, currently due to its global success; Australia will just have a small quota of 1,000 KIA Optima for the first year.
The overall presentation of the car is nice, with good interior trim. The pseudo stitched leather works well in accentuating the overall classy interior. Stop-start button for ignition and wireless sensor touch door work well. However, the use of LCD display with amber background on black text for audio and air conditioning control is a big mistake. White background with black text is just good enough for the time being. The central reverse mirror works well as a monitor for the standard reverse parking aid, it is doing its job. On the other hand, all it needs is a fully functional touch screen unit for Sat Nav, air conditioning, parking assist monitor and audio control. Ipod and USB connectivity is there for the premium audio system, including Bluetooth connectivity for phone and media streaming
The back seats are quite supportive with good headroom and shoulder room, and they come with a 40/60 fold down function for occasional odd shaped large objects. The mid back seat enjoys a better legroom comfort as the drive tunnel was reduced to just a small hump. The back seats are generous if the occupants are not relatively tall people
QuietnessThe cabin is extremely quiet. So quiet that it is rather difficult to notice whether the car is in action or not. Obviously, when doing a harsh acceleration, you will
27Driveway
Driveway10-06-11 No. 216
hear it roars but not excessively. Excellent noise dampening has been achieved and pushed further as well. Occasionally, you will hear tyre roars on coarse road surface, but the riding quality is excellent.
The EngineIt is the latest Theta 2.4 litre petrol GDI four cylinder direct fuel injection unit with double variable value timing D-CVVT 16 valve. Power is a respectable 148kW at 6300rpm and 250Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. While copping with the 6 speed sports-matic style automatic gear box, 0-100km/h is about 9 seconds. However, when driving the car, you will feel the power surge and it is not as slow as the figures suggest. Fuel consumption is about 7.9litre per 100kms combined cycle.
Australian tuned suspension and road handlingThe Optima has undergone extensive localization and received special adjustment for its Australian road condition. Higher quality and stiffer springs and dampers help it to achieve a solid character with firmness and give it a well appreciated road hugging performance. In terms of steering, KIA Australia has decided to let go of its electric steering and opted for a hydraulic system. The result is a much more interactive system feeding through responsive information but weeding out the nasty rattles of our road condition. It is therefore more enjoyable, responsive for steering and true to what it is designed for.
SafetyIt has everything. ABS, EBD with traction control & BA; ESC, HAC Hill Start Assist Control, It has also all the six airbags and front seatbelt pre-tensioners
with load limiters and active front headrest. It has 5 stars ANCAP ratings that adds extra assurance to just about anyone.
ConclusionI believe it is a major step forward for the Korean car manufacturer to put a big bold statement on their flagship KIA Optima. The KIA Optima is a competent contender that will set the trend rather than waiting to be told or rather just stealing ideas from others. It is generous in terms of equipment level and pricing is still more affordable than the other manufacturers.
